Proposed tech requirement changes (ISU Congress June 2024)

I am glad the windmill difficult entry / exit feature is gone in that most, if not all, of those that I saw in the past seasons have been ugly. The windmill entrances had been like wobbly camels, and the exits had been coming to a halt. Butyrskaya and even Lipinski did nice windmills back in the...

    Korean skating news & updates

Oh I hadn't realized that Chaeyeon was the top Korean woman this season at both 4CCs and Worlds and medalled in both. Congrats on the achievement in such a tough field, both in Korea and around the world! I believe Jia will be eligible for senior comps next season though in which case she may...

Proposed tech requirement changes (ISU Congress June 2024)

One other thing that I wish ISU would consider is the penalty for illegal elements. Seeing Adam just casually throwing a backflip in and still winning all these medals makes me realize - in the men's comp where the total scores of the top men are in the higher 200s or even 300s, a 1 point...

Perhaps they do this to the euler to allow another 3 jump combo - in response to getting rid of one jumping pass. 3lutz2toe 3lutz 3flip-2axel-2axel 3flip 3loop 3toe euler 3sal This then becomes one of the simpler ways to achieve 7 triples in 6 passes.

Hopefully the introduction of the choreographic spin means a return of the classic layback (or final scratch spin) and finally resting the layback-Biellman for good. Is there any current single skaters still doing reverse spins? Would love to see reverse camels again. Last I remember was Satoko.

I wonder if the proposal to ding pre-rotated / blade assisted takeoffs would come back to the discusison table?

Japanese figure skating 2023-24 season news & updates

Do JPN women have others to rely on besides Kaori? In the past 3 Worlds, besides Kaori who won all 3 times, JPN had sent 2 different women each time and not that successfully. None of Mone, Hana, Mai, Rinka, Wakaba and Mana had been consistent - Mai came closest last season but still missed the...

2023-24 Canadian Men: News and Updates

Wesley could, and he is steadily improving. At this Worlds, he did a solid job and lost no more than 10 points in negative GOEs between two segments. But he also lost around 5+ points in spin and steps levels. With all these fixed and some potential adjustments in PCS, he might just have made...

    U.S. Men 2023-24 news & updates

Ilia hasn't been doing the 4flip much this season, perhaps for a reason. He doesn't really need to be 1st after the short, he just needs to keep himself in contention (smart to leave out 4axel in the sp for example) and his massive BV lead in the free will carry him home if he delivers around...

U.S. Women [#5]: Remain on the Dance Floor

Isabeau's skating is beautiful but her jumping technique is scary at times. I hope things get fixed before it is too late. Also, her spins are lovely but she isn't exiting them as gracefully - she needs to watch out on that. For Amber, I feel we just have to accept that in order for her to...

But at the same time her triples became much bigger.

    Yuma Kagiyama cheer/appreciation thread

All around wonderful. Too bad about the axel but it wouldn't have mattered results-wise. That 4flip was a BEAUTY.

    U.S. Men 2023-24 news & updates

Yes, there is no one in the US more reliable than Jason other than Ilia. Everyone else delivers a good skate every once in a while but never consistently. And no one else gets the level of PCS and GOEs that Jason gets. As for Jason's chances of top 10 in the coming Worlds, he is currently 25th...

Japanese figure skating 2023-24 season news & updates

I don't think she would have been a favorite for the title either, at most a medal. If everyone skated to anywhere close to their best she would be off the podium for sure. But both Cohen and Slutskaya underperformed at the Olympics - so if Asada had kept up with how she had been skating so far...
