Mine - today's Mao meltdown. Absolutely gutted! Apart from that though - it's been a really great Olympics.

    Today- Mao's SP skate

Past- Midori's fall in the 92 Oly SP

Overall, the death of Sergei Grinkov (speaking of off-ice)

Thank you for pointing out there are more upsetting things in life than a bad short program.

When Jill Trenary snubbed me at a party. I had her full attention until Kurt Browning showed up. :(

I am torn between Kurt in 94 (92 was a right off due to injury) or Patrick last week. I think the ladder, I still can't believe it let that gold slips out of his hand (actually I believe it due to history but still so upsetting).

Very sad for Mao today but the writing has been on the wall for a long time due to her technik issues.

Off-ice, nothing even comes close to the day Sergei Grinkov died.

On ice, yes, Mao today is pretty bad. I think seeing her in 16th is worse than watching her deflate during her program.

Personal, getting so excited that I yelled at Rosalynn Sumners when I spotted her across a hotel atrium. I'll get over it one day, I'm sure.

I was most gutted watching Akiko Suzuki's at Worlds last year where she melted down in the FS. I was watching it live in the building and it was a very sad moment as a skating fan.

Bourne and Kraatz in Nagano - I was an Irish dancer and I loved their program so much and wanted them to be on the podium. I also wanted to throw things any time Fusar-Poli and Margaglio were anywhere near a podium.

Drobiazko/Vanagas realizing they wouldn't medal in Nagano 2002

Irina holding back her tears on the 2006 Olympic podium

Drobiazko/Vanagas falling during their 2006 Olympic OD (my heart stopped, my world fell apart)

    Siudek/Siudek withdrawing from 2007 Worlds

Brian Joubert's disastrous SP from Vancouver 2010, especially the lutz fall

Aliona crying on the podium during the Sochi flower ceremony

Doing my best to stay completely unspoiled for the ladiezz LP in 1998, only to spy a GIGANTIC front page picture of Lipinski's KnC reaction while crossing the street by my office.

The moment Tara Lipinski's scores came up in Nagano. Just devastated for Michelle. Still hurts.

Do you think Rosalynn took offense to that? I doubt it.

Nobody has mentioned Tai & Randy's withdrawal at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. It was before my time, but I people in the USA and even outside (FS fans or not) must have felt terrible since they were the reigning world champions, trying to win an OGM against the legends of pairs skating R&Z.

It's been a really bad Olympics, if you ask me. Numerous pairs bomb in the free. Numerous men, including the champion, MAJORLY bomb in the free. Mao MAJORLY bombs in the short. Even Julia couldn't hold it together.

Seriously, so far only the dance event was at an Olympics-appropriate level. The rest has been a disappointment.

You're right, she loved it, actually. I just felt ridiculous.

    2002 Salt Lake City.

I usually move on and forget about it, but then get bitter and nostalgic about it every time the Winter Olympics rolls around.
I'm not one to really freak out about Michelle being "robbed". For the most part, I agree that she deserved her placements both times. But she is my emotional favorite and my role model. Sigh. I can't believe Sarah Hughes has an OGM

Oh, yes Salt Lake City Michelle Kwan, how could I forget!

And I think the worst I've actually ever felt pertaining to skating was when the American public crucified Ashley Wagner after Nationals this year. It was really hard to stomach A) how hateful (and dare I say dense?) people really can be, and B) how Ashley must have felt among it all. Glad it's all in the past, and that Ashley has come out stronger.

I was so gutted when Sasha fell in Torino. I was convinced she was finally going to put it together when it counted.

For me, it was Alyssa Cizney's free at 2012 Worlds...that was just horrible to watch. Mao today is a close second.

Tai and Randy in 1980. We can argue about placements and how our favorite got the shaft all we want. But to have an injury and have to withdraw before even getting to compete. I cried then and I still feel bad for them.

Two great performances and two Olympic silver medals. Hardly a heartbreaking story.

Looking back, this was an overreaction, but when Elvis Stojko lost to Plushenko at the 1998 Skate Canada, I bawled my eyes out. I was only 12 at the time and thought that Elvis was unbeatable by anyone, except Kulik. To see him lose to some young guy was devastating to me.

A close second is when Shawn Sawyer didn't make the Olympic team in 2010. I got a bit teary about that one, although I wasn't bawling. Bourne and Kraatz finishing 4th in 2002 was also bad, and Sale and Pelletier's 2nd, although that was assuaged a bit by the second gold medal. Oh yeah, and the whole OD in 2006, that was heartbreaking for so many teams. And I won't forget B&A's 4th-place finish in the 2010 Olympics or P&B's 4th-place finish just a few days ago.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add the worst thing about the dance in 2002 was not B&K's 4th but the fact that FP/M were 3rd with that horrible fall! It was one of the worst falls I've ever seen in ice-dancing, not from the point of view of how much it would hurt, but from an aesthetics/skill point of view!
