People always talk about how mismatched some ice dance teams are (Babs and Maurizio come to mind). So who would you pair together if you could put any two ice dancers who competed during the same time period if you can't use current teams (So no Tessa and Scott :()?

Yeah it always interested me to think of what Anissina and Averbukh would have looked like. Also Anissina and Kraatz (if only to get rid of Shae Lynn...)

Also, Navka and Zhulin's careers overlapped (albeit not when Navka was with Kostomarov) and I think that could have been a good pairing.

    Others:
    Babs and anyone competent
    Khoklova and Tkachenko

I don't know, Navka seems a bit tall for Zhulin.

    Grushina with anyone decent.

Marina Anissina did skate with Ilia Averbukh in juniors, and actually after they split she wrote to both Gwendal Peizerat and Victor Kraatz about a potential pairing, but Victor apparently never got the letter. I read this in a skating book.

Jana Khokhlova and Sergei Sakhnovsky could have been interesting.

    Yeah
I meant seeing Anissina and Averbukh in the Olympics or something during that period rather than Peizerat

There was an interview back when they were still married where they talked about once trying to skate together just purely for fun. Apparantly, it didn't work out so well because of being too close in height and they decided to never try it again.

I had often wished that Barbara Fusar-Poli could skate with Polivas Vanagas.

I know this isn't fantasy since they skated together as pros, but I wonder how Usova and Platov would have done as amateurs together.. lol against Grishuk and Zhulin, for that matter. I know U&P beat G&Z in the pro world nearly every time they met, if not every single time.

Here's a video of Navka and Zhulin skating together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWnAyzWZR1Y
    :fan:

It's a really nice dance but you're right: she is too tall for him.

Just curious. Why get rid of Shae-Lynn? She was/is a very talented skater.

    I find her annoying.

I'd also like to see crone and Gilles together to have a grudge match against Gilles and poirier at nationals

I think that Scott and Elena Ilinykh could do some really sexy dance (and it would be much less weird than her and Morozov anyway :))

Scott Moir and Yana Khokhlova; just to see what different sides of their skating they might have discovered.

I think Navka & Ovsiannikov would have possibly been good. I think Oleg was a very good, agile skater & Navka was much better than Kostovmarov.

First, I think nobody is better together than Grishuk & Platov, so I don't think they should be switched with anyone! As for Usova & Platov and Grishuk & Zhulin as am skaters, I'd be very, very interested to see it, but would never have wanted it to have happened! In my opinion, they were much better off with their original partners (G&P & U&Z). Although, Grishuk & Zhulin had a different sexy style together, I think Platov is a much better skater & although Usova & Platov's styles wee compatible, I think Usova slowed down Platov's speed & dificulty a lot! I also think that part of why U&P beat G&Z in the 98 World Pro, was because of the content of the programs and not skating skills. Although, I don't think Zhulin had as much passion or expression as Grishuk, Usova or Platov. By the way, did they ever compete against each other any other time besides the 98 World Pro? I didn't think they did.

Poor Barbie. Being remembered just for that long, suffering look, not for her many fantastic performances.
Vanagas is a good idea, I think, he'd present her well and get noticed himself, too.
