It does seem that they are stretchng it out more than necessary. I think that the ice cuts / intermissions do not need to be this long, really. Also, they could have groups of 5 (not 4) as is done in other competitions. Maybe Aggis Arena just wants to sell more food?

Okay now there's 4 to go. If this break ever ends.

They have to give time for the ice to dry. With Synchro they do have an ice referee who is calling the shots and making sure there are no problems.

I have been to synchro events where I recall the ice cut intermissions are usually not more than 20minutes. These intermissions seem like 40 minutes. Maybe it just seems that way....

Oh, Team Canada lost a few points in technical. That may be costly

Team Russia 1. Skated to Johnny Weir's 2010 short music.
Very ambitious moves, including the pair spins, which made it easy to go out of sync.
    Shame about the fall too

Interesting. I don't think Russia were as smooth as yesterday but everything was well done. Shame about the fall. Loved the axels too.

I liked Russia 1's axels and spirals. It is a shame about the fall. At least she was able to hop right up and get back into it.

    And Russia drops a place.

Interesting music choice for Finland 1.

I like Team Finland a little better than team USA. Let's hope they get a medal
ETA So competition with 20 teams lasts 4.5 hours

ETA: So they won! I thought Team Canada had it but their tech marks were costly.

Wow that's a surprise that team Finland 1 won.

Feel bad for Canada 1 to be second two years in row. Their low technical score killed them.

Regarding the event breaks, we got a schedule at the rink and it is timed for the entire event. It lists when the teams enter the ice and when they exit. There is a set amount of time alotted for each team and although one group runs ahead of time, they will not start the next group early. So the breaks probably did run long, as thankfully there were no injuries or any other issues slowing things down here.

There are 20 teams and 6 locker rooms, so the schedule includes time for them to rotate the locker rooms :)

Having been to some lower level synchro competitions one factor that goes into the timetable are the changing rooms. You've got up to 20 people per team so you can't fit much more than one team into a locker room. Competitions I've been to the team leaders get schedules for when their team can enter a changing room. It's rare for these competitions to be ahead of schedule, lots of people to move around.

Synchro is such a massive organisational logistical nightmare with scheduling and trying to organise everyone.

The synchro competitions I've competed in have been militant with the locker room schedule. I can't imagine how it must be on the World level. No matter what happened on the ice, the locker room schedule was strict.

Canada 1 performed "Die Fledermaus" at the opening ceremonies at Worlds in London last month. (It was the only part of the ceremony I saved.)
