Currently Alissa. Lambiel in the past.
I'm very surprised you put Asada, Kim, Suzuki, and Ten on the list. A bulk of these skaters don't even qualify as good spinner to me...
Suzuki's biellman =
Based on this list, Lambiel for the men and Czisny for the women.
Why is Chan a selection? I believe him to be just a competent spinner. There's nothing outstanding about his spinning abilities though.
Suzuki has one of the worst spins. It might be well centered but her positions on all of her spins are so UGLY! That's why I can't get into her skating.
Stephane Lambiel for the male, and Alissa Czisny for the ladies !
Yeah, that's what I really don't like about her skating. She's so unpolished in all of her positions.
At least her jumps/performance ability make up for it. Didn't she only start doing the bielmann (albeit a very bad one) this year, since she couldn't get level 4s on the layback because they got rid of the change of edge counting as a level gainer for layback? She's 25!!
Okay now really, who do you all think has the best butt spin?
Lambiel for the men - but out of everyone on the list Alissa has that "it" thing about how she centers her spins, you can see it very clearly in her Y-spin (which I love ).
But I see Alissa doing it in the SP this year. I haven't seen many women doing the butt spin.
Yes and no. It's a multiple choice poll, and as of right now most people voted for both Czisny and Sawyer. A head-to-head contest between the two of them would be interesting. In fact, I think I'll start one right now.
Don't you mean Czisny and LambieL?
But, frankly, even though they skated at the same time, I think it's pointless to include retired skaters in this poll. Otherwise, Ruh should win hands down, just as Czisny should win in a poll restricted to active skaters (with Nagasu and Sawyer being the runnersup). It's true that Ruh never skated under CoP, but she would have aced her spins.
Of other pre-COP skaters, Ronnie Robertson and Scott Davis come to mind as two of the best, and I think they would have done very well, spinwise, under CoP.
I thought Chris Mabee had a good one. As did Sandhu. And when Jeff used to do it, his was pretty great. Maybe the Canadian men just have such outstanding butts that any spin emphasizing them is just pure awesome?
Retired: Lambiel, Cohen
Now skating: Czisny, Asada, Nagasy
Junior: Polina Agafonova and Julia Lipnitskaya
Lipnitskaya's spins are wow-effect!
I know this music, and it is driving me crazy that I can't think of the name. Anyone?
ETA: I think it is by Secret Garden
Lambiel and Ruh's spinning are they best, imo. They are freaks of natures.
I enjoyed Yukari's spins, I miss her.
I would give mention to Oda, Asada, Czisny and Mirai.
Lucinda and Stéphane, of course! Swiss skaters have the talent for spinning.
Though Alissa and Mirai are both good spinners, their performances at the TEB showed that Alissas spins are definitely better and faster.
ITA. I also dont know why Chan is there. His spins are fast but rather ugly.
Love all skaters who show artistry
For men definitely Lambiel, he's just a spin master. For ladies Sasha Cohen. In my opinion she's better spinner than Czisny, look at her legs in I-spin, both straight, and speed she has, her I-spin is the best out of all ladies. And Sasha's layback is just a pure perfection, back parallel to the ice, leg kept high in the air and she always added beutiful arm positions to it. Camel, again great, her extention is amazing.
Alissa & Stephane (Is he officially pro now)?
Pro- Todd and Lucinda
My favourites are Joubert's spins (shirtless if they're possible?
and Fumie's layback
Jeff Buttle and Todd Eldredge spins are perfect.
I like Min-Jung's spins! Especially her incredibly stretched biellman and I-spin which look even more due to her very long, thin legs.
I voted for Czisny and Lambiel. Lambiel's spins are even better live, btw! Czisny's are remarkable in that, especially in her Biellmann, it's like she gets faster as the spin progresses - none of that slowed down Biellmann nonsense in order to eek out as many levels/points out of the spin as possible.
Sasha Cohen was also a wonderful spinner but I would not peg her as the best. She had a beautiful classic layback (particularly seen in some of her earlier programs in IJS/early COP) and her I-spin is sensational.
Some of the juniors like Agafanova and Lipnitskaya have those amazing crazy hyper-extended out of this world (to put it bluntly!) Biellmann positions but I can't imagine they will be able to do those once puberty hits! Alas, the 14 year old spine can do far more than the 20 year old spine can.
IMO no one can Lucinda Ruh though, particularly in terms of speed and centering. Its a shame that she could never get her jumps in order.
I don't know Mirai is 17 and has gone through puberty and she still has that crazy gumby biellman position where her head basically touches her but her back is so bent!
actually,I think lucinda ruh is the best....
and I think the male and female spins should be separated, they are very different.
For lay back spin there are no way that I'm going to vote for anyone other than Polina Agafonova.
She really wow me!
If Lambiel improved his camel position, I'd give him more consideration since I liked just about every other spin from him. But I just can't get pass the ugliness of his camel spin position. If only he'd been able to attain the type of beautiful camel position that Jeff Buttle had (still has?). Buttle's running back 3 turns into the camel spin was probably one of my favorite spins during that time period of competitive skating.
I went with Czisny for this poll. Good centering, speed, and positions.
