It's just a more random set of people but vote like you mean it!
Alissa Czisny Lambiel
I voted for Mirai, Alissa, and Stephane
Alissa. Hands down. Fast, well centered, and the positions.......
Stephane Lambiel, especially pre-CoP.
Alissa and Stephane, Definitely.
I love Akiko, Yuna, and Mao, but their spins aren't that remarkable, they're solid to good, but not really anything to write home about. I actually think spins is Akiko's weakest, link, too...
I voted for a lot of people since many of them are great at different kinds of spins or overall, but I think the very best are Lambiel and Czisny. Nagasu, Zhang, and Nakano are very good also.
My crush. The Prince. Lambiel
Lambiel, with no competition. Unless there is Lucinda Ruh in the picks.
I always loved Jeff Buttle's spins. IMO Lambiel's were fast but I never found his positions that great.
Alissa's spins to me are the best of the female skaters.
Best spins by category:
layback: Alissa Czisny, Mirai Nagasu
biellman: Min-Jung Kwak, Caroline Zhang (pre-2009)
I-spin: Min-Jung Kwak, Qiuying Zhu
Y-spin: Mao Asada, Alissa Czisny
donut: Yukari Nakano
shotgun: Alissa Czisny
combination spin: Stephane Lambiel
button camel: Yu-Na Kim
Ooh, just remembered! What about SASHA?! How could we forget her...
I never liked Sasha's spins that much, her spirals were amazing but the spins not as much. It always bugged me how her head stuck out in the biellman.
Sasha's spins were always hard to judge, imo. Some seemed exceptionally good, others inferior. Her Biellman wasn't at all pretty, but her layback and I-spin were great.
But, yeah, as RockTheTassel said, the I-spin was probably the best, the free leg in the layback and how it lagged behind, and who remembers that scratch spin with the arm variation with Swan Lake?
Lucinda Ruh and Sasha.
Yukari Nakano--she actually accelerates when she goes into her Biellmann and little flecks of snow fly off her upheld blade.
Oh, me too!
Lucinda Ruh & Yukari Nakano for all time great spinners, among the would-be greats Polina Agafanova.
I've always liked Sasha's spins, but I have to agree with you about the head sticking out in the beillman. Many skaters do that and it ruins the whole effect of what I like in a beillman. Beillman, Rue and Czisny have the perfect beillmann postion. Head back and both hands on the blade. I don't like beillmans with one hand on the blade while the other hand grabs the wrist or forearm. I always watch for that.
I would have had Denise Beillman, Lucinda Rue and Sasha Cohen on the best spinners list also. Rue's pancake spin is one of my all-time favorites. I voted Czisny for the ladies and Lambiel for the men. I could watch them spin all day.
But Yukari had one of the ugliest layback spins. Her sit spins weren't great either. She had good camel spins, that's all.
This contest was over before it even started...
Current: Alissa Czisny
Retired: Lucinda Ruh and Stéphane Lambiel
Czisny by a longshot. Not sure why skaters like Kim, Nakano and Ten are on the list. Aside from her doughnut spin, I can't think of any other variation that Nakano did much better than anyone else.
Zhang used to be up there with Czisny but no longer. Not only does Alissa do every type of spin very well, but I wish that those who can't do the I-spin like Sasha Cohen can would take a leaf out of Alissa's book and do a perfectly vertical Y-spin which is so much more pleasing to the eye. Caroline used to do a nice one in one season of her Ave Maria LP, but now she only does the same ugly hunched over I-spin like everyone else.
Alissa Czisny: layback, Y-spin, flying back sit, flying camel
Mao Asada: Y-spin, one-handed biellmann
Yuna Kim: bent leg camel
Mirai Nagasu: layback
Takahiko Kozuka: combination spin (nice scratch spin!)
Stephane Lambiel: combination spin
Lucinda Ruh: all her spins!
Yukari Nakano: donut spin
Shizuka Arakawa: donut spin
Carolina Zhang: pearl spin
Sasha Cohen: I-spin, classic layback
Angela Nikodinov: classic layback
Nathalie Krieg: layback spin
Denis Biellmann: biellmann spin, duh!
Alissa Czisny, Sarah Meier, Shawn Sawyer
Current: Mirai, Alissa and Polina Agafonova (the best layback ever!). But little Lipnitskaya is even better spinner than them.
Zhang few years ago, but not now. And of course Lambiel!
layback: Caroline Zhang, Mirai Nagasu, Mao Asada
biellman: Sasha Cohen, Mao Asada, Yuna Kim
Y-spin: Mao Asada, Alissa Czisny
And the best of them all: LAMBIEL!!!!
Currently Alissa. Lambiel in the past.
I'm very surprised you put Asada, Kim, Suzuki, and Ten on the list. A bulk of these skaters don't even qualify as good spinner to me...
Suzuki's biellman =
Based on this list, Lambiel for the men and Czisny for the women.
Why is Chan a selection? I believe him to be just a competent spinner. There's nothing outstanding about his spinning abilities though.
Suzuki has one of the worst spins. It might be well centered but her positions on all of her spins are so UGLY! That's why I can't get into her skating.
Stephane Lambiel for the male, and Alissa Czisny for the ladies !
Yeah, that's what I really don't like about her skating. She's so unpolished in all of her positions.
At least her jumps/performance ability make up for it. Didn't she only start doing the bielmann (albeit a very bad one) this year, since she couldn't get level 4s on the layback because they got rid of the change of edge counting as a level gainer for layback? She's 25!!
Okay now really, who do you all think has the best butt spin?
Separate names with a comma.
