Say,I wish I could post a pic. to help you all get an idea to what I'm talking about. But does anyone know what the move or Element is called when the Skate leans back?...Not the Layback. But when the Skater leans back with her body and Free-Leg both Horisontal to the ice. Like the body is kinda like a (T). I know it's done. As I've seen Rachael Flatt do it. Does anyone know what it's called? Thanks.

Is the skater spinning? Sounds like you're describing an inverted camel spin where the skater's face and upper body are facing the ceiling.

Either that or some sort of a reverse spiral where they lay backwards as opposed to face down. I haven't seen anyone do that on ice since the early 80's though.

Yes I saw a televised cheesefest in about 81 or 82 and I think it was Dianne someone who did it. Charlie Tickner was also in it (skating to some hideous "bump bump bumpity bump" song).
Youtube link to both the inverted camel spin and the inverted spiral.

Spiral: (Sorry it's a FB image, only one I could find doing the inverted spiral)

If it is a spin, isn't it called a layover camel?

There used to be an IJS document with photos of spin positions somewhere on the web, but I cannot find it right now.

I watched the video, and she didn't do what I'm thinking. The Skaters I've seen have kind of laid back like there lying on the back looking up at the celing, and at the same time, one Leg is up in the air, pointed straight accross, not up like in a Spiral, and the other Leg is down with the Blade on the ice.

There is a layover, and then there is an invert. With the invert you actually rotate right over on the skating hip so that both hips are facing upwards. The layover doesn't rotate quite as far in the skating hip and just finishes in an open position. Inverts are very rare on ice.

If it's what I'm thinking of.. Emanuel Sandhu did it in his 2006 lp. The one where he's wearing blue. :p

She (Patricia Mansfield) does it at approx 3:00 mark. I had not seen this move before. The commentator said it was like a death spiral, sort of (without a partner, obviously). She is not rotating though. It's very different from Rachael's inverted camel.

Beautiful layover, still not a true invert though.
Here is another roller one, look at the foot change as she goes from the back camel to the invert position there is almost a three turn that happens to get to the final edge. It's as the skating leg rotates completely in the hip socket as opposed to being just in an open position.

Here is the closest I've seen on ice from some unknown girl.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN_Q2jlg4Eg&feature=related

Could that be the one that's one of Yuna's signature moves, layover (bent-leg) camel spin or Yuna spin?

Her upper body and face are totally facing the ceiling, arms are parallel with ice yet only her leg is bent. I think including positions mentioned above, Yuna's spins are the closest to the description.

A layover position on the camel? I think?

Yep, just a layover. Nice layover though.

    hi

i'm gonna put this here as it's a related question...
anybody know the name for the new spin that was very popular in the JGP this year. My friend's coach calls it the bum spin. The skater is in position as if centering spin then bends body over and grabs blade so that bum is in the air. I think its the most ungraceful position ever invented.

Lots of people call it a "butt spin," but the polite name for it is an "A-Frame Spin."

It's not new - Emanuel Sandhu was doing it when he was competing.

I'm shading a tear for what could have been and wasn't.

    Well, I don't agree.
It depends on who does it: most guys don't have perfectly straight knees, nor they keep both legs on the same plane.
When Sandhu did it, I think it was a piece of art.

A lot of guys were doing it about 4-5 years ago...we jokingly called it the "where's the beef" spin, because they all looked like they were checking out their crotch. Thankfully we didn't see it much the following year.
