So FSU is known for snark and I think for many people it can be quite a bit of fun in a sport we tend to take pretty seriously.

But then there are posts filled with something much stronger - loathing of sorts - made about certain skaters, federations or events.

So my question is - what do you think brings out the most venom in posters?

A skater/skaters they don't like succeeding or scoring well?

A style or choreography they don't like or a program or skate they don't think is good - scoring well?

    In general mis scored PCS

Falls not affecting the marks enough

A skater/s being marked higher than the poster feels they should be? (intensified when it is consistent across competitions)

    A skater(s) beating their favourite(s)?

A skater(s) who says things to the press/publicly that the poster doesn't like - too arrogant, disrespectful of other skaters etc.

Behaviour that posters don't like (particularly on or near the podium)

Skaters from countries they don't like or whom they resent for whatever reason (They think Russian dancers or pairs always win regardless, Canadians are overmarked, the Israelis bought the judges etc.)

When skaters are not original or voidy- in their music choices, choreography

    Bad costumes

Bad posture / toe point / line

Skaters who don't look the way posters think they should - bad hair, too heavy etc

    Others?

That´s what I hate most, here on FSU or on other forums. I´ve met posters who openly recognized that they dislike skaters because their nationality and I think it´s very sad!:slinkaway:(:blah:

Over-the-top uber fandom of a certain skater to the point where a poster is always, always trying to slam their god's/goddess's competitors and when said poster is completely blind to his god's/goddess's flaws and faults.

I almost made skaters being Chan / Plush / Lysacek one of the options!

Yes, it's funny how you can't dislike Evan without his fans thinking you are a Johnny or Evgeni uber. It's like it never occurred to them that maybe some posters don't like any of them skating-wise. Likewise, if you dislike Sasha or Tara or Sarah, you must be a Michelle uber. :p

So, that would be another option, when people make false assumptions about other peoples' posts.

    Yes, and arguments about depilation.

ETA: Okay, so maybe the latter threads aren't especially venomous. :slinkaway

Erm... don't most of these things have a commanality in that the poster feels some "injustice" was done to another skater (either one they personally prefer, or one who they felt was undermarked/overmarked)? I don't think any one singular topic brings out more :argue: than others.

This isn't "the most" but I'm surprised how many people get upset about grammatical and spelling errors.

It is sad because this is an international board and for so many English is not even second language - but third or even fourth!

You should try Chronicle of the Horse. You basically have to be violently offsensive, outing real names and addresses of people who don't want to be, or cyberstakling to get banned or shut down, so beware the Grammar Nazis. They are ruthless. (OTOH, it works great because there are very, very few posters who are impossible to read.)

I think most people can tell when it's ESL versus just lazy typing and textspeak. ESLers are generally more polite, for a start.

Speaking for the forum as a whole:

The most annoying thing to happen by far is when a skater skates a good program, but makes some mistakes, and places well. Then nobody notices how good the program was and everybody focuses on the mistakes and the whining begins.

    Examples:
    Sale/Pelletier vs. Bereznhnaya/Sikharulidze
    Laura Lepisto's medals
    Patrick Chan's SC victory

As for what brings most venom in yours truly:

    1. Zoueva & Shpilband
    2. Any Chinese pairs that aren't Sui/Han
    3. Kawaguchi/Smirnov

If you're talking about people for whom English isn't their first language not being 100& correct all the time, then I totally understand what you mean.

But then, there are people who clearly don't give a toss.

Who don't use capitalisation, punctuation and don't break the text down into paragraphs.

They awake a murderous rage in me.

It's English, motherf*****! (Careful kids, this link contains swearing :drama:)

"Plushenko" is a topic that comes with a package of mixed emotions. "Yu Na" threads have many venom and when they mix with "Mao" it is just unbearable.

On the other hand - there are posters that make those topics just so funny and witty. So even the venomous threads can be fun to read :D
