By request, the U.S. Ladies general news thread is moving from the Trash Can to GSD. This thread is not intended to be the catch-all for each and every U.S. lady-related article or news item - separate threads can and should be started in GSD for anything really significant, plus there are pre-existing news threads in GSD (for Wagner, Czisny and Flatt, to name 3) and fan/cheer threads in the Trash Can, that can still be used.

I'll start things off by posting the links to, and program music/choreographers listed in, the updated Team USA bios (team envelopes A, B, C and/or ISP), along with any known international assignments at this time.

I'm a bit relieved to see Leah Keiser's programs being choreographed by Mills. Her previous years' programs by Lori Nichol were, eh, kind of unwatchable, cringe inducing.

This thread isn't the US ladies discussion thread is it? This is just for news and updates right?

I thought news and updates usually generate discussion? ;)

I'm hoping this thread will stay focused on the current season that's underway and anticipate that summer competition news/results/scores posted in the Kiss and Cry forum will be discussed here, along with any notable videos (there's always the Trash Can to re-hash past seasons' results, etc.).

Scheduled to compete at the Glacier Falls Summer Classic in Anaheim, Calif. (SP is tonight) of those listed in the ISP are Hicks, Nagasu, Zhang (not sure if she will compete), Edmunds, Keiser, and McIntee in Senior.

Thanks for the thread, Sylvia, and for compiling all that information. A treat to have it so easily accessible.

Some interesting music choices. I can't figure out Agnes. Her music choices and her style of skating just never seem to gel for me, and I want to like her. But OTOH, I can't think of what kind of music would suit her. I also find that the cut of her skirts is not flattering. She seems like a big (athletic, un-waif-like) skater. I liked both of her programs the first year I saw her.

All the Pretty Warhorses can wait, can't it? Many posters mentioned they wanted the Ladies thread on the "Great Skate Debate" page so that's where Sylvia put it.

I am still wondering about a men's thread. We now have pairs, dance, and ladies going, but the men's has disappeared over the last several months.

Since this is regarding news and updates. I'd read a twitter post on IN that a male skater was watching Alissa practice her LP and got goose bumps. I wonder what she will be striving for this season. She's the one top US lady w/o any major assignment. Actually, she has NO assignments! Since she is not going to the US Sr. B and doesn't appear to be doing any summer competitions, I doubt she'll be assigned to SA. It sounds like she'll have to do Ice Challenge, Golden Spin or something to get any notice from the USFSA in time for nationals. No?

I can't wait to see Alissa's programs. Now that the US has three spots, I feel like I can root for her to make major teams again.

If Alissa wants to qualify for Sochi, she will have to do an International B in order to achieve the ISU minimum technical scores. Alissa also needs to qualify for US Nationals, which means she must do Regionals/Sectionals. What is most likely is that USFS will require her to do Regionals, then will send her to a B during the Sectionals time frame.

I think Courtney is making a case for getting that 3rd spot for Sochi. The other girls better be on top of their game come Nationals.

The other girls -- including Ashley and Gracie. Courtney's consistency and huge scores are mighty impressive. Nationals is going to be so exciting!

I think Courtney is doing a good job. I would like to see her with more control of her limbs and blades. If she gets that, she'll be Tonya 2.0 (which would be quite exciting to me)

Isn't Hicks still skating on the junior level internationally? Seems she is on a different timetable than, say, Nagasu.

I think it would be a mistake to write Nagasu off at this point in time...she wasn't particularly impressive in 2009, either, until she suddenly showed up at 2010 Nationals...and the rest is history...

Mirai isn't the same skater she was back in 2009-2010. Plus there is much more depth in US Ladies now then entering the Olympic year in 2010.

This. Mirai won on nationals in 2008 and in 2009 she had a growth spurt and never really got back to form. So headed into the Olympic season we had never seen her at full strength. She struggled during the GP but had a phenomenal performance at nationals and she ended up winning that second spot. Nobody had ever seen that side of Mirai before and it was amazing.

It's been nearly 4 years and we haven't really had a full glimpse of that brilliance since. I do not want to write Mirai off but at this point it just seems so unlikely that she will be able to do a 180 and magically begin performing the way she needs to in order to get herself back in the USFSA's good graces and earn the kind of score she needs to be considered for that spot. More and more skaters keep coming up behind her and she's just getting lost in the shuffle now. That's not one but two skaters who beat her soundly at the competition this weekend... And these are skaters who are still juniors internationally. As I said before she's not going to get any help when it comes to getting a leg up on the competition that's coming up behind her. From the looks of it she has a very very very long way to go to get herself where she needs to be and we already know the judges will do her no favors. I am pretty sure they would be much more inclined to choose Courtney or Polina over Mirai at this point. Mirai has had opportunity after opportunity to step up and be that top level skater...

I almost feel like it's too little too late at this point :(

IIRC, Mirai competed alongside Flatt and Zhang at a September comp. in 2009 and scored 101 points. She went on to compete in '09 Cup of China and was so dinged with UR's she received around 93 points in the LP. So, I think even then, Mirai wasn't fully together in the Fall. We have to see. I acknowledge that she has to 'get it together' but she seems to want it and is committed. The problem though is going to be getting some credibility back from the USFSA and facing a deeper field of US ladies than in 2010. That means knocking it out of the park on the GP circuit and Nationals. She's committed (good) but there's less room for error (bad)

I'd love to see Mirai with with Artunian to help with the jump technique, even if he would not be her full-time coach. I think he could help her with her under-rotation problems.
