    Famously wrong predictions:

    1) The horse is here to stay, the automobile is only a novelty. - Banker 1903
    2) Stock prices have reach what looks like a permanently high plateau - Economist Irving Fisher in October 1929, days before the Black Tuesday crash.
    3) The Beatles have no future in show business - recording executive 1962
    4) You will be home before the leaves have fallen from the trees - Kaiser Wilhelm II 1914
    5) There is no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance. - Steve Ballmer 2007
    6) Rock n' Roll? It will be gone by June. - Variety magazine 1955

I haven't seen much of it yet, but I'll say Yay for now, though I've already heard the phrase "without a doubt" used with reference to the solidity of his reputation, which, as far as I know, isn't even yet the case.

Also, the overhyping of the awesomely bad Seventh Symphony, followed swiftly by a negative critical reaction, hurt Shostakovich's reputation for several decades afterward (in the US, at least). As late as November 1989, the music critic Blanche Devereaux exclaimed that she had "no idea that music that loud could be so boring" (or words to that effect). :drama:

All the Golden Girls room are so '80s and dated, but of all of them, Blanche's room is by far the snazziest, and, besides, it's where all the action happens. :saint:

NYC update: went to the Cloisters, the Met, and the Village Vanguard today (Saturday); going to the US Open tomorrow and the Jazz Standard tomorrow night. :encore:

Back to pads and rooms: if I were to create my own pad, which would you advise? I would likely go for a 2 or 3 bedroom setup and rent the extra rooms out.

Nice, newer townhouse, but one that's narrow and cramped in between lots of other cookie-cutter townhouses

Only in comparison to skaters of the caliber of Fleming, Lynn, and Hamill, IMO.

stronger case for a medal, despite the compulsory figures:

    Biellmann in 1980
    Ito in 1988
purple I haven't seen the figures, chyld.

Kwan's 1998-1999 LP, which, while brilliant when she skated it, would be    :mitchell: if performed by me.

Actually, it would go a bit like this: :scream:, 3z2t, :sasha1: (Charlotte), :glamor: :violin: (70s Soviet tango music), 3t3t :)biggrinbo), 3r, :sarah1: (layback), combination spin, :drama: (back to Ariane), 3f, 2a, :oksana1: (fluid arm movements), 3s, :sasha1: (arabesque spiral), flying camel into an upright spin, (music change), steps into 3z, :gallopin1 :kickass: (fast circular steps), falling leaf, flying sit-Y-upright spin, :glamor:! :encore:! :cheer:!

Hmmm... the latter sounds more historic, but the former sounds less likely to be in the middle of a toxic waste dump, so I'll go with the former? :shuffle:

And, of course, I like the Golden Gate Bridge (my pic) and the Bay Bridge the most. :p

I'd also do Chan's 12-13 SP combined with Abbott's 11-12 (and 13-14) LP, except in Abbott's case I'd go with the real version of the music recorded by Muse, with the lyrics that is. :encore:

Anyway, several weeks ago I discovered Janelle Monae when she got some airtime on KCRW's MBE.

Favorite Janelle Monae song besides Tightrope?
