I love Oda, as I do many other Japanese skaters...
his effortless jumping reminds me of Kulik. I hope he skates his best this season, don't dare to predict or wish anything:slinkaway

I love his skating. His jumps are effortless and he has such wonderful flow coming out. I hope he keeps it together mentally. Japanese nationals will be so competitive but surely he deserves a year where everything comes together ;)

Nobu is my favorite skater! I've been waiting for the season that he lays it all down, shows off all his talent to its highest potential. This is your last season: you can do it, Nobu! I want so much to see him at the Olympics and Worlds, preferably winning medals at both. It's not out of the question.

    Thanks for starting this thread.

Armenia Camp has finished and Team Japan is back home.
    http://sankei.jp.msn.com/sports/news/130907/oth13090711160014-n1.htm

This article says Nobu, Machida, Akiko and Miyahara participated in Armenia Camp. Also Lambiel was there as a temporary coach. They spent a week there and they were coached by Lambiel. Today they are back in Japan. (As an information, Team Japan is scheduled to the preparation camp there in next February.)

Nobu said "The environment was great. The venue was big. We were able to train in the image of the Olympics"

Go Nobu! Make an Olympic Team :cheer::cheer:

I love Nobunari!! I want so badly for him to make it to both the Olympics and Worlds this season. What's interesting about Oda is that if he skated for any other country, he would make the Nationals podium each and every year very easily. He just happened to be born in Japan..... But I won't hold that against him! :p

Teams like Japan's men's team make me wish again that there were a couple of wild card spots for situations where there are clearly far too many exceptional skaters in a discipline in a specific country. I know it would be very complicated but there certainly have been many times in several countries where this has been the case. Love Nobu! So happy he is looking strong so far this season and seeming to have improved in counting! ;)

    I found this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSqW2erO5lY

He's so adorable! It looks like he met and hung out with a young skater and it was filmed for a tv show. I think it was in 2011. Wish I could understand Japanese!

I saw this awhile ago, so cute. How could anyone watch this and NOT fall in love with Oda?

Yes, the famous tears! There's another video somewhere of the same event and Evan Lysacek (who lost to Oda) is shown backstage as Oda's scores came up. The crying was so intense Evan could hear it backstage and had a look on his face like, "WTF is going on out there??"

    Here's another Oda video that's hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueHUXkQaTlQ

I love that Japanese TV and media really appreciates its figure skaters.

    Aww! I love it!
True. Seems like you can always find many more interviews and fun stuff they do with skaters on Japanese/other Asian tv. Lucky them!

Is it racist when fans throw monkey dolls at Oda? I want to do that, but I don't want to make him cry more than he already does.

Oda is a great skater, and sometimes his headcasiness got exaggerated because he was compared against a supertalented field in Japan. In a less competitive country he would be considered a rock.
Despite his occasional inability to count, I wish he'd get his federation's support a bit more. Other than 2010, he has managed top 7 in four worlds. In my opinion he may not always be a close podium contender but always a dark horse and can be counted on to do a decent amount of jumps

I agree, but I think it will boil down to how he does the rest of this fall before Nationals. If he can turn out consistent skates the way he has so far, he could be back in the JSF's favor. (Hope... hope...) :swoon:

Definitely. Hope, hope...It would make me the happiest to see Oda do well and possibly win a World medal or who knows, even an Olympic medal...You never know. It would be a dream come true.

I like Nobu, and particularly loved his Totentanz sp & Chaplin lp. What a shame during the Worlds when things didn't go well for him when he did Totentanz (Worlds 2010?)! As a result, he didn't make the cut for the free skate, & we didn't get to see him skate his wonderful Chaplin program. I hope he has a great season and has a chance to compete @ the Olympic/Worlds.

Congrats to Oda. Two fantastic skates at Nebelhorn. Can someone ask him what is his secret of looking more like a boy than a father? I need that recipe!

WOW! The SP and LP results from Nebelhorn Trophy really show what tremendous potential Nobunari Oda has and there's even more room for scoring potential in the LP given that he omitted a permissible 3-jump combination and tripled his second 4toe attempt. I think it is definitely possible for him to win an Olympic and World medal if he can maintain or better this level of skating and keep his head together in competition. I love the mood and character of his SP and I think he does best with this type of music where he can show his cute side (LOVE his smile!) and lighthearted personality. His Charlie Chaplin LP from 2010 likewise was a terrific vehicle for him and the type of mood that really allows him to shine. GO ODA! Cheering for you to do your best! :cheer2: It is so unfair that Japan can only field 3 male skaters given the talent of their roster with Takahashi, Hanyu, Kozuka, Oda, Mura, and Machida.
