Those pictures are incredible. I feel like I've been waiting for years to see Mao so joyful again. I am happy for her and happy for the Japanese fans, who must be in love with her all over again.

Asada Mao has been my favorite not only because I treasure her skating gifts but because I adopted her in my heart so very long ago. Her determination as a 12 year old to attempt a triple axel moved me, and her growth as a skater made it a pleasure to watch her with hope no matter what the years brought in results. 11 years later I get more misty eyed than before, perhaps knowing all the work and struggle that went into this chapter. She is a lovely person and personality-- as lovely as her lines and lightness on the ice.

Mao's program was such a delight. I always love her skating, with such ease of movement over the ice, but I am so happy that she was able to complete every single element to perfection as well. I honestly think that after her 3 axel performance at 2010 olympics, her 8 triple performance including all types of jump at 2014 olympics, and the new sp world record, that posterity will regard her even more favorably as an all time great. She may not have the results of some top competitors, but she has much more unique accomplishments. There is a world champion every year and an olympic champion every four years, but no one will ever duplicate what Mao has done. Plus, her gentle yet resilient spirit is just a shining light in the sport.

I am sooooo happy for Mao! Her world breaking performance was sweetest redemption. And she looked happy on the ice. Standing ovation as soon as she finished and the rains of flowers onto the ice. Such wonderful moments for Mao, very well deserved.

Just after the free program they interviewed Mao in front of the crowd. Mao said she had lots of ups and downs not only in this season but also in this quad and after finishing everything she truly felt figure skating is wonderful. That was one of the most fantastic interview I've ever heard from her. What an amazing words for herself and also for me as a long time figure skating fan. Even if it was her swan song, I'm happy with her determined performance. I'll watch her long program in Sochi and the short program here lots of times. Congratulations to Mao for the third World title and achieving her goals which was to show her ultimate programs. :cheer::40beers::cheer2:

Such a touching moment with Mr.Sato. Mao said in the interview that she wished she could have put a medal on Mr.Sato in Olympics but she couldn't, so she did it in Worlds and she was happy.

At the very end of Fuji TV's live coverage, Kanako came and gave her a hug when Mao was hurrying to the press conference. Kanako said "I'll try my best in the nest season!", and Mao said "Good!". So I'm sure Kanako changed her mind and continue competing at this point.

Her win made my season. :) She will always be the skater that pushed the sport the most this era, and she is IMO the best blend of technical/artistic that I've ever seen in a ladies skater. Pure Talent.

Mao skated in the charity show to support the people affected by the East Japan Great Earthquakes today in Kobe. Kobe is also a city which was affected by very big earthquakes over a decade ago. Mao skated Jupiter. This show was aired by a local TV station. Hope someone put the video on youtube!! :cheer2:

One of Japanese long established department stores Takashimaya is going to held exhibition events in some of their stores. So now Takashimaya in Nihonbashi, Tokyo and also the nearest subway station are jacked by Mao. :D

Mao posted an entry on her official site today.
    http://maimao-asada.com/mao/about-game/2014/04/02/676/

    (my rough translation)
    World Championships finished.
    April 2nd

Thank you very much for your support in this season as always.
In spite of all ups and downs, I'm very much satisfied,
I went all out in daily practices and also in competitions!!!
    I feel great right now.(^^)

This photo was taken in the Worlds after-party.
There can you see the ice carving of skating boots?
It was melting a bit since this photo was taken around the end of the party.
    Such a beautiful carving.

    I'm with tuna-san that I love in this photo.♡

A video of that "figure skating is wonderful" interview(with an interpreter) in front of 18,000 crowd.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSj1wcnTi7Q

A glimpse of yesterday's Jupiter she skated in the charity show for East Japan Great Earthquakes victims. Daisuke proposed the show plan and this is the forth year to held the show. Skaters said thank you standing at the donation boxes to people who did the donation in the venue after the show finished. Reportedly it took them for three hours to say thank you to everyone. Japanese skaters have been doing great support since the disaster. One of the reasons might be many of their fellow skaters are from the affected areas, especially Sendai where Shizuka and Hanyu are from. And another might be the skaters who were representatives of Japan to be sent to the canceled Tokyo Worlds had conflicts inside of themselves. Many of them said later that they were wondering whether it was good or not to skate in the Worlds( even in re-scheduled Russian Worlds) since many people were still struggling in Japan. Mao was very shocked by the disaster and kept out of the rink for a week. It affected her peeking but she said later that she wished to skate well there to encourage Japanese people who were affected by the disaster. Shame she didn't place high enough to show her Jupiter in the exhibition show. But I was very much moved by the opening/ending of the exhibition which was choreographed to support Japan. Back to the topic Japanese skaters are still very active for supporting the people who were affected by the disaster. They do skate in the charity shows, held skating classes for the kids, and skate in the affected areas.

Today Mao is gonna skate in Nagoya Figure Skating Festival. It's a show where skaters from Nagoya skate in front of the Nagoya people. Mao, Akiko, Kanako, Kozuka etc will enjoy their kinda home rink show.

Fan cams are not allowed in Japanese shows so we can't expect them on youtube. Among the shows Mao participated/participating in April, Osaka Exhibition show will be aired on April the 12th.(Osaka Local), and Stars on Ice will be aired on April 16th(TV Tokyo). So we'll see some videos on youtube after those recorded coverage on TV. I'd love to see Jupiter(she skated in the charity show in Kobe). If any, I'll post on this thread.

Today I found an article about her retirement on twitter. https://twitter.com/yuzuporuko/status/454007329344614403/photo/1 Shame this source is kinda yellow paper so we have to wait for more reliable sauces, but it says that Mao will announce about her decision in May. She'll make her exhibition program in June and it'll be skated in her show The Ice Tour(July 23-27 in Nagoya and Osaka). If she continues competing, she'll make the competitive programs as well as the ex pros. I assume she'll go to Nichol's rink in June as she did two seasons ago.

The cast isn't announced yet but the tickets are already sold out.(They'll sell some more tickets from time to time so that various people can get the chance to buy tickets.) I heard Kozuka is listed on some site(I can't confirm this). I assume Jeff Buttle will work as a choreographer and a skater as usual. Others would be some IMG skaters and Mao's friends. Also The Ice invites a few up and coming skaters every year to support them financially. And the organizer used to ask fans who they want to see, so some skaters will be invited based on fan favorites.
