That music is just wretched...
I agree, but Daisuke makes it .
I don't care for that music, but I LOVE Takahashi's interpretation of it.
Blues for Klook is GORGEOUS! sensual, chill, and -dare I say - orgasmic and when someone like Takahashi interprets it... Oh yeah!
Sometimes, professed hate is thinly masked lurve.
I actually rather like the music but not for skating.
Dislike the music, but Daisuke made it HOT.
If it was anyone but Takahashi, the program would be terrible. Luckily he can make any music good.
He could skate to 4:30 of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5i3an89TvBI
And make it amazing.
I hate Blues for Klook too, but it's grown on me, thanks to Takahashi's skating. He works almost anything.
Usova and Zhulin, Lucinda Ruh, and now Takahashi have done AMAZING things with this music. Takahashi's choreography captures the phrasing and nuance of this music perfectly.
On the other hand, when bad skaters decide to use it, it seems interminable.
I can think of other pieces of music more deserving of hate than this one.
Yeah, Requiem for a Dream and Bolero are millions of points ahead in my hate book
Yup, "Klook" and "Requiem/Dream" are two of the worst pieces of skating music ever.
You are absolutely right
at the thread title.
I caught Daisuke's LP last night and . IMO he's the last of the great male stylists (at least for now). He makes me miss Lambiel and Buttle just a tiny bit less.
I've had a love/hate relationship with this piece of music ever since U&Z skated to it (another performance). At times I find it annoying and weird yet other times like others, it is perfectly sensual, sexy and slinky. ITA that with the right choregraphy it can make for a memorable competitive or exhibition piece.
Actually, I feel the same way about Requiem for a Dream. It depends on the choregraphy and how good of an interpretation the skater gives. C&O's LP at 2007 U.S. Nationals is still a favorite of mine.
I love Requiem for a Dream and Blues for Klook. Both on the MP3 player.
RFAD in ice dance was one of the reasons why the ISU passed the "uplifting" rule, wasn't it?
I don't care for that genre. I first heard "Blues for Klook" years ago when Bulgarian gymnast Silvia Mitova used it for her floor routine. It was very different from the norm at that time as far as gymnastics choreo and music. Quite unique but I still didn't care for the music. Still don't.
The ' Blues for Klook Hate Thread' is becoming 'Daisuke Love Thread'
I didn't like it at first but I believe Daisuke could make me enjoy the sounds of nails scraping a blackboard.
It's not even music.
It sounds like somebody scratching a blackboard.
Screw your uplifting bullshit and start deducting for that!
I hate hate hate hate hate it. I cannot even stand it when Dai is skating to it. It makes me want to shoot myself.
I don't care for the music, but Daisuke makes it work!
This ^ again!
LOL, the problem is that this is a Blues. And I don't think Daisuke interprets it as a blues...
So, I don't hate the music but I don't really like Daisuke's interpretation.
I wish I've hated Daisuke as well so I don't have to listen to this music
Andrejs Vlascenko - 1998 World Championships Short Program
Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje - 2008 4 Continents Free Skate
And one of my favorite :
Karel Zelenka 2007 Nationals SP
I know Idora Hegel skated to it, earlier (circa 2004, IIRC).
