I've taken a good look, but haven't seen a thread for the new season starting tonight. The promos that show the newest group of contestants working out w/the Marines do look awfully interesting.

    Can't wait!!! :D

I admire them for being selected for the show; I'd love to be on the show and exercise and such but being Canadian, I can't. I know that it's hard to be a contestant and I wish them all success.

I can't help but wonder if anyone gains back anything after the show.

I just had a procedure done to help me lose weight and so far I'm doing great. I wonder how many contestants considered weight loss surgery.

Me, too. I hope no one does, but it must be quite a challenge.

There has been documentation that a lot of the contestants regain weight, to varying degrees. Last season a previous winner came on - he had gained all or close to all of it back. He had a special challege (on his own) to re-lose the weight. His advice to the contestants was to keep on the path they were given, because as sucky as it was to go through the grueling BL regimen, it was worse having to do it twice.

ETA: I was wrong - Erik gained back half, not all, the weight he lost. Still, it was more than 100 pounds.

Here's another look at some contestants. This one says Erik gained back 175 pounds, but most of the rest featured have done ok.

That first episode was a snooze. Hopefully it's just because it was a group of people competing for a spot on the ranch over and over and over again. Next week should be the usual TBL, I hope.

ok. I watched last night and thought wow, they have made a few changes. The whole thing about putting half of them below the yellow line seemed stupid. I knew from the start that most all the women would end up there are most of the men were pulling big numbers.

The save challenge was ridiculous as was the biggest loser of the week's pick of who he was going to save. Before going into commercial, I knew that he would pick Patrick.

imo, they picked the wrong person to eliminate, but oh well. I just hope that the camera angle gets better. I have no idea why they changed it so now it's more in your face than anything else.

    Anyone else watch?

    Great minds think alike!

So far I like the contestants and have felt bad for those who have left the campus.

It was pretty obvious that the bottom half would be mostly women, and that whatsisname would save the only guy, just because he's a guy. I hope they don't continue the extended yellow line thing. Having them run a short race over and over again to determine the final 2 to be voted out - and then having only the top 8 vote - didn't add anything. The more they raced, the tireder they got, so of course the ones who were last in the first race ended up being the final 2 - it was just a time filler running the rest of the races. And of course now we have a potential "villain" in Jessica. I do believe she hit the other chick by mistake, although she does seem very competitive so who knows.

Still too many people to know who to root for, although I'm really glad they brought 2 more back from the auditions.

I also think the entire bumping thing was an accident. It was Burgandy who wasn't letting it go or accepting Jessica's apology though. I'm already getting a bit of an arrogant vibe from her, so that's one I'm not really going to be pulling for.

Glad two of the contestants who didn't make it, were picked by Bob and Jillian to come to the Ranch. From the stories I remember from last week of those who didn't make it, I think they picked the best two.

I felt so bad for Allie. Not only do I think they made a mistake in the elimination, but that Allie *really* needed to be there. I'm so happy she reached out to Danny for support though. Her story really hit close to home for me, as I go through simliar things w/my Mom, so was gutted to see her eliminated. Really hope she ends up winning the At Home Prize.

Did anyone else think that if the doctor who'd done her Gastric Bypss and/or her Mom had been w/Allie at her Know Her Numbers appt w/Dr. H, he would have slugged either one of them? He was *really* angry that anyone would do that to someone so young. Can't say I blame him either.

And also that what you see and what they say is not what happens (ie doctors' advice regarding food and exercise is disregarded and medical supervision is not as stringent as implied), and that contestants are encouraged to engage in dangerous behaviors (one contestant would up urinating blood from severe dehydration as they were told not to drink before a weigh-in.) A female contestant ended up buliemic after leaving the show.

I don't think it was a mistake. I think both of the contestants up for elimination needed to be there, but Tina, because of her age, was going to have a harder time losing weight at home. I'm mostly annoyed because that whole race thing pretty much ensured that the last two facing elimination would be the two who needed to stay the most.

I'm really glad that Allie was given a chance to work with Danny at home. And that she recognized her mom's complete neglect/indifference. The doctor who performed that surgery on such a young girl was negligent, but I would put a lot of the blame on the mom for allowing it.

I am for gastric surgery, having just had the procedure done last month. However, I would not recommend it for anyone under 18. At the age of 14, her mother could have reached out to a nutritionist and really could have changed the life of the family. I find tat any gastric procedure is a last resort; that is if nothing else worked. Sounds to me like her mom thought it was a cure all but like anything, the procedure is a tool, and you need to eat healthy in order to keep the weight off.

Glad to hear she's doing greaton her own and thrilled that her Biggest Loser family is helping her. I really wish that they would let the contestants on the ranch for 2 weeks at first though, instead of eliminations right away.

OMG, I totally take it back from last week about them keeping the right person. It's a good thing Tina landed in the B2, because I could not stand to have her crying and changing her mind and crying more all season long. Oh, and aside from the fact that she wanted to leave the ranch to go on vacation, I wrote her off completely once she said she withdrew $16.5K from her retirement account to fund it :scream:

OTOH, congrats to her and her daughter for doing well at home. I wonder if Tina made it back in time for the vacation :shuffle:

I'd add something to that, but I don't know just what because you basically covered it all.

    Except for this...

These people have watched the show before, right? So you'd think they'd know that you do NOT backtalk to either Bob or Jillian. Because if/when you do, if you thought the workout was hellish to begin w/, then...Nothing compared to what's headed their way after shooting off their mouths.

At least you'd *think* they'd know that from watching the show.

For some reason it is becoming difficult for me to get into the show this season. The confessionals and camera angles are just killing me. It is also becoming a man vs woman thing and now it seems much more "survivor=like" rather than the show that I am used to watching. I am hoping that they mix it up next week and divide the groups to make it more balanced since at this stage, the women will all be eliminated half way through. The whole bit with the men drooling over Anna K was over the top.

Thank goodness Tina went home; but there was no doubt in my mind that she was leaving. These contestants seem very petty (getting mad at the other person who was upset that the first person left so she could work with her).

When Lisa (?) first said she wanted to go help Allie I thought they were overreacting, but the more the conversation went on, the more it was clear that she really did mean she would leave the show just to make sure Allie did better at home. Now, I think it's possible this was done in the heat of the conversation - she was really upset that Tina would want to leave right after her please to stay meant someone else had to leave, said something off the cuff, and when challenged, dug her heels in - but after that, I don't care if she goes home either.

Congrats to Ada, the only woman to not be in the bottom half both weeks, and to Jessica, who did pretty well this week (and GOD I WANT HER HAIR)! Agree that this format is turning it into a men v women thing, and I don't like it.

Did love how, after someone (Aaron?) noticed the 3 guys working together in the immunity challenge, we see the 3 getting together deciding to have a sekret alliance that NO ONE CAN KNOW ABOUT. Er....too late, boys

The guy who lost the most weight this week - I think his mother died kind of recently before taping began, right? I really hope they are providing some sort of counseling for him. Or that he's going to get some the second he leaves the ranch. It seems like she was his whole life. :(

I just read that Sam and Stephanie from last season are engaged. And Koli and Ashley are dating.

I really hope they ditch this "half under the yellow line" concept. It seems to punish the women for not being able to drop man-sized percentanges; then they have to compete in a challenge that favors any man who might have fallen under the yellow line.

The first 4 out are all women and so far no man has even been up for elimination. That may just be coincidence but either way I think this new twist is just a big flop.

I'm upset too by the fact that this yellow line business this year definitely favors the men. Are overweight men stronger than overweight women? 95% of the time, IMO. Are overweight men able to lose more &lose it faster than overweight women? Most of them can & do, IMO. Aside from that I can't stand Brendon & would love to see him eliminated.

I agree, I'm not a fan of the new format. Glad to see I'm not alone though both my boyfriend and sister agreed with me as well.

Most of the women eliminated so far haven't been fully committed and/or just flat out unlikeable anyway. There's no way Burgandy was making it past a few weeks even without the injury- she is one of the most annoying contestants of all the seasons I've seen, and she'd be dumped first chance they got. The guys this year are all at least tolerable and are doing the work. I do agree that the carpet rolling challenge hugely favored men, but I do think the bottom half challenge makes the show more exciting. I don't think the sand digging favored men at all, because it was all pretty much luck as to who found it first and they were all digging the same mound at the same time. Ada and Jessica are doing pretty well even if the rest of the women are mostly tanking.

The carpet challenge last night totally favored the men. The sand digging one had an element of luck at least. I don't like the new yellow line.

"I will make you cry blood" OMG!!! Jillian is just evil. If I had been Ada I would had lost another two pounds shitting myself when Jillian said that to her.

I think there will be maybe one or two women among the last 7 or 8 contestants remaining this season unless this 'new yellow line' thing is changed back to the traditional way.

I, however, do like that they are playing as individuals from the start since they are all strangers. I've always thought it'd be interesting if this show (or Survivor) would play individually for an entire season. I'd just like to see it with the traditional yellow line, instead.

ok, I had laundry going, so I went downstairs to get it after the weigh in but before the vote, figuring it would be between Anna and Elizabeth (of the two, I was hoping Elizabeth would be the one going home). I come back up and they voted out RICK?!?! If they were going to get rid of a guy, how did Brendan escape? Whether he threw it or not, dude only lost 2 pounds....

Hubby and watched last night. Brendan definitely threw the weight in and judging by the way Allison, Jillian and the rest of the black team, they were not expecting it. I'm guessing next week Black team has trust issues and if they lose again, Brenden is on his way home. I'm glad they did not vote Anna off. That would have been cruel, but really, she should have taken immunity.

I get the same feeling. Brendan is smarmy as all heck, and I'd love to see the girls band together and knock out the guys in that group. Rick and Brendan came off so fake when they were all making their pleas. And what's up with his EYELINER?! What WAS that? Didn't buy their tears for one second. Really glad to see Rick gone. Looks like he's doing great at home, so that's good for him. I'm on team Ada right now. :cheer:

Can someone tell me how Rick ended up being a target? I'm still just shocked.

Also very glad Anna didn't go home, but  why the heck didn't she take immunity (was down in the laundry room for that too)?!?

They did the leader board for the highest % of body fat lost and Rick was leading. The group saw him as small framed and a lot of weight to lose. BTW... He looked great at home!

I hope the black team girls band together and vote everyone of those black shirt team males off. I can't stand any of them!
