Hmmm! So, the short program is a samba, is it? That will be fun! (But what's with the Latin shorts this season?!)

SP Music: "Historia de un Amor" by Perez Prado
FS Music: Music from Carmen performed by Rodion Shchedrin and the Boston Pops Orchestra

Historia de un Amor
They're going to have to be careful with volume on the cuts; those trumpets have the ability to have you putting your hands over your ears.
It does sound a bit like a samba, but it gets a bit slow in places...maybe they're going to speed up the tempo a little for Max?
Thanks for this update, Sylvia!
Thanks, misskarne, for that link!
This piece sounds familiar to me...I know I've heard it before. I checked my Perez Prado recording, but this selection isn't on it. I can't wait to see what Max and Pasquale do with this!
I found this for the LP music...
Rodion Shchedrin Carmen Suite Complete (43:48)
A long piece...a lot of music to choose from!
I really like this version...it has a lot of vitality and intensity!

Facebook - skate camp:
Lots of great photos of Max in this month's Skating magazine. He of course has his full spread, but also a photo of him with Ryan Bradley and Joshua Farris on the set of a sports show. Someone needs to send him some socks though. I've never seen a man wear dress shoes with a suit without them, and he has a few pictures where you can see his bare ankles.
I like his hair cut a bit shorter. And the cover photo is fabulous.
P.S. Have your tissues ready...this is a tearful video, but so uplifting.
Any interesting tidbits, skittl?
Probably nothing new to obsessive fans He was featured really heavily in the magazine;
first he was in a little sidebar type thing abut the "Countdown to Sochi" he and the other guys I named did on Universal sports. Just mentioning it happened, no quotes really.
He was mentioned in the article about Grand Prix, as making a debut, no quotes in that one from him. Heavy focus on Jason Brown for men's.
Next, he was a large photo in an article about using 3D simulation to master jumps (along with Ashley Cain.) This is way more than Dartfish. They put them in a black suit and cover them with dots like a hollywood green screen movie. It will show the trajectory of the jump, but also let you change variables in mathematical modeling to see how changing inputs can change the outcome- which you then go and try to do on the ice. Max said he used it for his salchow, and mastered it within weeks of using the system. "It was amazing to learn that such a tiny correction- a small change in my arms -- that would make the difference of getting around cleanly."
Then there was the feature article about him. In addition to real estate developer, which I think I'd heard was his career ambition, he also wants to be a stock broker and sports agent. And get married at 27 and have four kids. I think he plans on being pretty rich, as he wants to retire at 35 and play golf.
He talks about doing 3 quads in the free skate, 2 in the short, and how he now realizes why so few people do it. It is hard to train two different quad jumps and run the programs every day. But he knows he needs the points from the quads (he talks about it being 15 extra points to do 3 quads) His programs are still backloaded, but with a lot more transitions. "I'm focusing on the moement going into the jumps, fluid movement, making sure everything is building together." He talks about really wanting to perform Carmen "I'm not just a jumper; I can perform more and feed off the crowd"
His Mom said his brother and sister went into LTS because Max was already playing hockey. Max started figure skating at age 9 because there wasn't hockey in the summer. He was scouted early for hockey by some colleges, and almost all the players on his USA team in 2006/2007 is playing in college or professional. He wanted to play for Michigan (which kind of surprises me he didn't go there, since lots of figure skaters do).
His height is quoted as 5'7" on a good day.
He says when he broke his back (L5) he decided to figure skate because he wanted that Team USA jacket. He says he figures he could always go back to hockey and play in college. After the 2012 nationals, he considered returning to hockey because he was so discouraged. He decided to give it one more year before switching back, and of course, that year is the one that brought him to the forefront.
Beverage: Water (oh, poor athletes)
Snack food: Fruit (again... poor thing)
Off ice conditioning: running/swimming
Way to relax: hang out at the pool
Olympic sport: Gymnastics and swimming (he wasn't allowed to pick skating.)
Sports teams: Detroit Red Wings, Miami Heat
Tom talks about working on his components.
This sounds cool. Kinda like motion-capture for film. I know they've been using it in cricket for a couple of years to check on chuckers. I wonder how long before this system becomes more common? I imagine it would be expensive though.
Okay...for some reason I am finding this ridiculously cute.
Poor little fella.
Thanks so much, skittl!
Thanks, Skittl1321, for that synopsis!

Sorry; trying again....
P.S. Remind self to always check the link.
I do wish someone would buy the boy a pair of dress socks. It looks so odd to my mind to see him sitting there with bare ankles!
yeeeeaaahhhh. . . I'm still waiting for shoes that don't clash massively with the suit
That too. The suit looks great. The shoes...not so much.
What a great Max moment from Nationals!
