No Alex in the all stars ?
Perhaps just not this week.
Makenzie posted a photo of her pro from the shoulders down and my guess is Jakob and that they are doing a Broadway number (he was wearing shoes, but not ballroom shoes and I doubt they'd waste Jakob Karr on a ballroom number and he's been dancing in Flashdance the Musical, sooooooo.....)
Who ever gets Marko will be super-lucky!!! He makes everyone look good.
I heard Alex say he's an all star when he appeared on After Buzz.
Of course, Allison and Twitch, who have now become more famous than any SYTYCD winner, will also be all stars.
I have always said that the "losers" seem to do better than the winners. I hardly remember any of them.
Can anybody name all 9 winners? I can't. Especially around seasons 4,5,6.... I can see some of their faces, like Russell, but I don't remember the year. And definitely some of the 2nd place folks did better than the winners. I will never forgive the show for what they did to Danny. I know a ton of professional dancers who still don't watch because of what happened to him. I should have known then...and yet I still watch....But I'm so pleased with the past 2 years....Eliana and Chehon were to me miles more professional and better dancers than the rest of the crew, and this year's top 10 are all really, really good. Love them all. I was about to give up after Lauren and Melissa. But that's just personal opinion. Nigel just doesn't listen to me!
I can: Nick Lazarini, Benji Schwimmer, Sabra Johnson, Joshua Allen, Jeanine Mason, Russel Ferguson, Lauren Froderman, Melanie Moore and Eliana Girard/Chehon Wespi-Chopp. I'm sure I misspelled a few, but I remember all of them and I remember especially memorable routines. I definitely have forgotten some routines and I don't remember each contestant as I did the first five seasons, but I remember who won. Regardless, clearly Allison and Twitch have become stand out success stories. So have Travis and Kathryn. A lot of the dancers are working regularly in the industry. Then others have disappeared completely, onto other lives.
I wish the show or some credible website would do a where are they now for every dancer.
interviews with some of the all stars
Thanks pixie cut! I'm not allowed to give you any more rep or I would.
Of course now I remember all of them. How could I forget Jeanine... one of my very, very favorites? I remember her doing the (I believe) Broadway on the sofa and I thought...hmmm...I love that girl! Then when she did that very difficult-for-the-circumstances DQ variation, I was totally on board. I didn't agree with all the winners, but with a couple of exceptions, I think they were all very deserving.
Top 10 all-time favorite dances (not group dances) anybody? I'm going to go research and see if I have a list or if 10 are just not nearly enough. Not like I have any spare time, but hey..it's Saturday.
Interesting article on pole dancing as a judged sport -- I wonder if Eliana will compete?
After I saw this, I thought where is Alex.
Here is where he said he'd be an all star: http://youtu.be/DA95xWKLm78?t=1h41s
10 photos were put on on Facebook for this week's all stars: Melanie, Comfort, Neil, Brandon, Marko, Witney (hold the h), Robert, Twitch, Kathryn and Jakob.
So 4 women and 6 men - so a guy guy duet?
I finally got caught up on last week's episode.
Hayley joins Amy in my top 2. Makenzie would have been my favorite in the last few seasons, and she's close this year, but there is a clarity in Amy and Hayley's dancing that makes Makenzie #3 for me so far. I do like Jenna and Jasmine too though.
I like the girls a bit better than the guys, but I think Paul might be my favorite guy followed by Aaron and FikShun. FikShun had some footwork issues, but his posture and arms were surprisingly good for the "untrained street dancer" in the group. I think Nico had a really strong week too, especially in the mini group -- I thought I would be watching FikShun, but I found myself watching Paul, Nico, and Aaron.
So when Curtis was out, Hayley danced the Argentine tango with Leonardo, an Argentine tango specialist. When Jade was out, Malece did contemporary (her style) with Marko, a contemporary specialist. When Tucker was out, Jenna did Paso Doble with Alex, a ballet dancer? What was up with that -- no Dmitry, Pasha, Ryan DiLello, Tony Meredith, anyone? Not available, or is Alex a specialist in everything now?
He kind of is, but I wondered the same thing. It appears Alex was available and he's already on the all star roster. Tony Meredith lives in New York. Since he and Melanie weren't in LA, that would let him out. Also, he's kind of old. Same reason why the choreographer didn't dance it with her. I'm surprised they didn't get Dmitry, Pasha or Ryan as all have ties to the show, but since Jenna is a trained Latin dancer I guess the producers assumed Alex would suffice.
It was kind of odd since Nigel pointed out that Alex never did ballroom/latin on his season - he got injured the week he was supposed to do Foxtrot. So even if Jenna is a latin dancer, she definitely didn't get the advantage Malece or Hayley got. I guess Dmitry and whoever they have for ballroom on the allstar list was out of town.
I read on TWOP that Jean-Marc Generaux specifically asked for Alex to sub in that piece.
Who's excited for tonight?
It might have been because he designed the choreography for Tucker, a contemporary dancer, and he wanted a dancer who could carry off that skill set. Given that Jenna is extremely comfortable with the paso doble, having probably competed it since she's 10, she could work with whoever the choreographer picked.
Chris Scott's opening number was great.
We get Debbie as a judge.
Cat is a little less orange than usual although it might be the beige.
What a promising start.
eta - and it starts with Disco / Doriana / Whitney remix and plunges to the depths.
Why didn't they let Whitney rest in peace? I couldn't enjoy that routine at all because of that horrid disco mix.
What was the name of the opening number music? Loved it.
Way too much talky, not enough dancy! Making me crazy.
I do not like Witney.
Has gotten even better.
well, this dance will keep hayley in next week for sure.
Debbie said it. She's the first one who completely disappeared next to her AllStar. This genre did not suit her.
What I love about Twitch is that he ALWAYS makes his partner look amazing. I think there have been times when he could have danced in a way that took all the attention / squashed the other dancer but he never has!
