No, but my husband was in the Fox Theatre planning a photo shoot with Alvin Ailey when SYTYCD was filming in Atlanta. He said they were rehearsing the "spontaneous" things a lot. He watched them "interviewing" and filming kids meant to be off the cuff, but they of course rehearsed and shot it many times. He was there among them for several hours. He said it was very planned and scripted. But we all knew that, right? He loved it! He can't wait for it to start. Probably no one cares anyway if it isn't "real."

Not sure I want to watch this year, but of course I probably will.

Oh, Fabrice!!! I hate the auditions usually but now I have to watch....... Fabrice! He's an unbelievably hot ballet dancer with the Joffrey. And I'm very glad Irina is getting to be a guest judge. She's doing Starz "Flesh & Bone" series filming now. How fun, Copeland & Billy Porter - awesome!

As usual, mjsbigblog has the best spoilers. And amazingly accurate.

Ugh. Justin Bieber. Why do they have to mess around with something that already works and why have this little twit on a dance show?

Reputation rehab? Nothing on TV is as clean as SYTYCD. Nigel might have gotten him for free.

Haven't watched yet, but isn't there always a trailer park girl named Megan?

It turns out that she's not -- and she was very good, not like she should be dancing in a gentlemen's club -- so she didn't fit the cliche.

    wow!

Actually, I watched all but the last 10 minutes tonight and don't remember her at all, so maybe not wow? I was largely bored tonight. Really enjoyed a few ballroom dancers. Felt terrible for the guy from last year whose dad passed away, but the extended drama was ridiculous. Nice kid, agreed with him not being sent on after doing choreo, had a sinking feeling when he showed up again, ignored his second dance when he said he had come back with a dance all about his grieving. I mean, +3 GOE for figuring out what rings Nigel's bell, but :scream: I don't even know if he was given a ticket to Vegas (I know they're in LA this time, but to me it's always a ticket to Vegas...)

The chick with the 11 siblings ... the way Nigel was talking to her about her dad "providing services" to her mother  :scream: I couldn't help but see it thrugh the lens of a very young adult applying for a job, and the hiring manager making lewd comments about her parents' sex lives. WTF.

Did the dishes during the Biebs part. I liked America's Best Dance Crew a ton but I don't have any interest in bringing that into SYTYCD. It's bad enough they have split the win into "Favorite Guy" and "Favorite Girl" instead of just having a winner.

Turned the tv off when Mary and Dharma got lapdances.

It's as if Nigel can't decide who is watching. Last night was for dance grammas and dance dads. Tweet @dizzyfeet if you're disappointed.

The first girl (the one whose dad danced) -- could she have been any more generic contemporary? What did I miss that made them rave about her?

I saw her dance but have no memory of her performance. What a disappointing beginning to the season. I stuck with the show for an hour, then turned the channel to watch a rerun of Criminal Minds. Gee, too bad I missed Bieber. ;)

I was flipping back and forth between this, tennis and hockey. So I missed stuff. Saw trailer park girl, and grieving guy and the lap dances. Plus a few others here and there. Nothing stood out for me. Trailer park girl was very pretty but she mostly just lifted her leg a lot. Very meh first show. :blah:
The hockey game was the most exciting part of my night! :p

Missed the first part of the show but tuned in late and still saw some good dancers, looks like it's going to be a great season! I'm excited :)

I thought the standard was pretty good, for a premiere.
    I ignore the cringeworthy/trashy auditions.

I watched some of it but then discovered the premier of "Big Ballet" on Ovation & decided to give it a try. It was interesting,a new concept to cast a ballet (Swan Lake) using plus size would be ballet dancers. Not a comedy btw.

I liked the couple towards the end - the black guy & white girl. I can't say too much about the guy because he's so young (18) & it would be creepy but I really liked him. I didn't watch her too much so I don't remember much about her. I liked the guy with the scar & his friend, the latin ballroom dancer. And I also liked the girl from Utah with 11 siblings & the girl who was on her own since age 12. Although I also wondered who paid for her dance lessons.

You would never make it as a judge on this show.
