That whole bit was wild. Brenda trots over to Dawn, calm cool and collected. Dawn points to where she lost her teeth, Brenda looks....dives once...here's your teeth, Dawn. Awesome indeed! :respec:

I've got some speculation about the whole Brenda/Dawn thing that I'm going to put in spoilers because it does involve some spoilers/speculation that I read on Sucks. Read at your own risk! Final Tribal Counsel spoilers/speculation below.

When I was watching this past episode, I couldn't help but be struck by how completely random and non-game advancing the whole thing with Dawn's teeth was. Sure, it was a fascinating bit of drama that was interesting to watch, but the producers are editing this to tell a specific story; not show a Best Of reel of their month out there. They cut out stuff like that all the time from the show because it doesn't have any real bearing on the game. So to go out of their way to show that with Dawn and feature silent little Brenda, of all people, I had to wonder, what story were they trying to tell?

First off, one angle is them showing how Dawn is getting more and more unhinged. That was a running theme of the whole episode so it definitely tied in there. But, they had plenty of "paranoid/unhinged" Dawn to show elsewhere that didn't involve any personal embarrassment that affected her behavior...so again, why show this?

My ears perked up when we heard Brenda say, "I won't betray Dawn after this, and she won't betray me". I don't think that was there by chance. I think the whole reason why they decided to feature this moment is because it influences the end of the game.

According to Sucks, Dawn makes the final Tribal Counsel but does not win. Since she's been shown to be orchestrating a lot of boots and alliances here, I think the editors are editing this to explain to us all why Dawn DOESN'T win. Her consistently unhinged behavior and what smells to be a really harsh backstab to Brenda would point to this. I think Dawn is going to backstab Brenda, hard, and it is a huge tipping point to the jury on how they want to vote.

So yeah, them showing this clip isn't as much about Brenda as it is about Dawn and how this created a situation where it made Brenda's impending boot so distasteful to the jury that it was a significant factor to her losing a million dollars.

Anyway, just a bit of speculation from me with some spoilers thrown in. I was kind of meh on this season at first but it's shaping up to be quite good in the back half!

So I realized that I'd never seen Survivor South Pacific, so I looked it up and watched it. What an absolute DRAG of a season and a nearly completely odious group of people. *shudder* That's one of the least enjoyable seasons I've ever seen, lol! Not even Cochran could save that; he was such a buffoon back then; I mean, it wasn't like he had any smart people to align with. I LIKE Coach and Ozzy but even they had their moments where they completely irritated me. Ugh. What a lame season. I think I need to watch some Heroes Vs. Villains or Cook Islands to wash the memory from my brain. :p

    Spareoom,

What site were you able to watch the older seasons on? There are a few seasons I missed and would like to watch.

As for this season, I am enjoying it more since the focus has shifted away from just a few people.....

So true. Cochrane for the win!!!! Not only is he strategic, he can say he won 2 individual immunities, and from a social perspective, it seems like people like him. Wow - Brenda is on the show this season afterall. I wonder though if it is her identical twin sister, as she looks the same, but seems to be a totally different person. I know she was injured, too bad they did not show or reference that so we can understand more about her behavior in this episode. We know Dawn has been crying a lot, so we have a sense of her feelings, but Brenda????
I love Malcolm - but that was a great move to get a strong player out. This is turning out to be a very enjoyable season, and if Cochrane wins, it will one of my favs evah!

I would have bet money that somebody would have flipped. With Malcolm gone, that puts the two amigos on their heels and severly hurts their chances.

And boy, Cochrane is having a heck of a season. FTW!! :kickass:

I never even commented on last week's ep - that was pretty rad  I think it was smart for the 3 amigos to target Phillip, just because he was the glue keeping StealthrUs together, even if he wasn't ever going to win. But everyone else was rallied around sticking with the alliance, and specifically with him, because he was such a willing public frontman and no way in hell was he ever going to get a single vote at the end :p Without him as the common front man, all the little substrategies can come to the fore.

Now for tonight: man, Eddie really does have a head full of rocks, doesn't he? I mean, Malcolm may be feeling a fool for blowing his cash on the clue that he couldn't solve, but at least he got something useful. It seemed unwise of Reynold to spend any of his money on food, but what was done was done - but Eddie? We didn't see him purchase anything, why didn't he just spend the full $500 on the challenge help right off the bat?!? Aaargh, part of me thinks we just didn't see him bid earlier (has happened before)...but I also find it totally believable that he's that dumb.

Good job Dawn for hanging in there as the last female in the challenge. Actually, all of the women left are pretty strong, in different ways. And yay to Cochran!

Sherri seems to be playing just to get to the final as a goat. I mean, I get it, there's a lot more $$ paid to finalists than to the 6th place finisher, but she had every reason to jump tonight. Erik would be in a tougher spot - he's been the out of synch vote, and has changed sides too many times, I don't think anyone can trust that he's on their side.

I admit I kinda wanted Andrea to get the boot, because she's wiley and ultimately a threat to Cochran...but the 3 way tie was brilliant, since it took two of the three minority votes out. Kinda anti-climactic though :drama:

I wonder how hard it was for Phillip to keep quiet during TC :saint:

Why did Erik and Sherri blabber to the camera that they are such PLAYAS...and then do exactly what was exepcted of them by the old, dominating tribe? Dawn is obviously connected to Cochrane and Brenda. Andrea could have asked Malcolm to strategize with her at the well, but neither made any game play moves at that time... (weird). So Andrea wouldn't consider going with MUSCLEHEADS (tm), so she's tight with Dawn/Cochrane/Brenda. They must have made Erika and Sherri realize they were idiots and needed to stay with the group of four (six with the two of them) and that 4/6 is bigger than three MUSCLEHEADS (tm) as BIG as they might all be...

I think the danger of switching to the boys side was that they were clearly tight and planning to go to the end, no matter what they might have promised someone for their vote. Aside from everyone knowing it, they've been quite openly acknowledging that they are desperate and willing to do anything to stay in the game.

If your strategy is to move up the totem pole by switching (Erinnn in Brazil) and hope to shake things up and get to the end, then doing it with three strong guys is not a great idea - they have a better chance of winning those important final challenges, and you're out. By staying with the six, in this season at least, you might have a better chance of getting to the end knowing that there are cracks to be exploited and better chances to win immunity.

re the HII - I thought Andrea was smart to sit there at the spot Malcolm was searching, and I thought she and Cochran might be planning to take turns shadowing him so he wouldn't find it. Cut to commercial and they are all lying around again, and cut to another commercial and Andrea thinks Malcolm likely has it.

We must've missed something there. Why did Andrea give up? And surely Malcolm kept looking? And why didn't Cochran find a way to go back to where he saw the dug up dirt?

Hopefully next week there will be a scramble for it, because if they all just sit around going "oh well" then we are definitely missing something.

I was hoping Malcolm told one of the other amigos where to look in case he got voted off.

yeah...editing. Although I thought Andrea saying she was "80%" sure Malcolm had the idol was just TC posturing.

That was what I thought, too--she was making Malcolm feel comfortable.

Did anyone notice that Eddie voted for Malcolm on the revote?

I wonder if Andrea or Cochrane are going to pick up where Malcolm left off and start digging around for the idol. They both have a pretty good idea where it might be (Andrea for sure) and since Malcolm is gone, why not? I don't know if they told anyone else that they had caught him digging. If I were Andrea, I'd keep that information to myself and then try to exploit it for my own personal use later on once I realized Malcolm didn't get it after all.

I noticed that - assumed he saw the obvious and figured when they rehash the votes he could say use it to try and distance himself from Reynold and hopefully join up with part of a splitting larger alliance.

One thing - on the show, Jeff often stops reading the votes once it's clear who's going, often leaving a mystery vote or two, which I thought he did last week by only reading off three votes against Philip when there were four. But back at camp this week, they seemed to know someone flipped - am I remembering this wrong? Because I did think it was a deliberate move on the producers' parts to make them all suspicious, as well as encouraging wonky votes.

Interesting thought - I haven't been watching the season until now, so haven't seen his other votes - does he always do that? And if so, a bit odd that he would basically put a signature on a vote that betrayed his alliance. When he did something so fancy with the misspelling I thought he might have been trying to disguise himself.

Oh and meant to  at Philip's grim jury look and the thought of Malcolm having to answer to someone he called a "fun sponge" three days earlier!

Erik is an aspiring cartoonist and has done all of his votes this way. I am pretty sure he did it that way in his other season as well.

Thanks Prancer - even more bizarre then, because it would seem to scream "I betrayed my alliance" but at the same time, while several of them seemed a bit suspicious of his loyalties, we didn't see anyone call him out. #dangeditors

So I'm confused .... did Malcolm really stop searching for the Idol simply because Andrea and Cochran were watching him at the spot by the well? Or was it that he really just simply could not find it?

I'm thinking that in this case, "water" did not refer to the well.

"On the way to water, on your left hand side, is a large opening in the rocks. Next to which grows a tree out of the rock face. Its roots extend down to the ground. There is a hidden immunity idol buried under these roots six inches underground"

None of these people can read! The clue says "On the way" to water. It looked like Malcolm was searching at the roots of the tree beside the well. That clue seems pretty specific to me and the tree didn't look as if it met the condiditons at all, outside of being a tree.

Thanks! Being able to read it now, I don't think that 'water' meant the well either. And I didn't see any 'large opening in the rocks' near the well? I didn't see any rocks at all. But I'll give him some slack for only being able to read it for 60 seconds. I would never be able to remember all that under the pressure of knowing I only had 60 seconds.
