Not to be a curmudgeon, but I sincerely hope that all the people who take this challenge (and can afford it) actually donate to ALS along with taking an ice bath. The attention is great, but the money is what is needed.

Dang. I was hoping the Ice Bucket Challenge was about who could make the best cocktail.

Johnny Weir took the challenge tonight and nominated the entire board of US Figure Skating to be next.

That is pretty curmudgeonly, actually. We dont know what the skaters themselves are doing besides the challenge, for one thing. For another, they are obviously raising awareness and that does help raise money. Sheesh. No need to ... er... throw a bucket of cold water on such an imaginative PR campaign.

I hereby admit that Scott Moir has his virtues.

(Sorry, it is past 4 am and the little puns come out.)

Judiz, Johnny's challenge is hilarious. Any vid?

Johnny's challenge is on his IG, I don't know how to post links from an IPad.

Spun Silver: I think it is great that people are bringing attention to this, and it is raising money to fight ALS; my point is that I've seen several photos and videos of these challenges (to be fair, mostly not of skaters, more often celebrities) where ALS doesn't even get mentioned in either the announcement in the video or the text accompanying the photo. I think the ice bucket challenge is great, and I'm not suggesting people shouldn't do it. That said, however, if one is going to do this, be clear about what its for and also encourage people to support the efforts of the ALS Foundation, instead of just "dumping the ice" without an explanation. That is all I was trying to say, and my apologies for not being clear. It's a great challenge, but be clear about what it is for.

Thanks, Sylvia. Todd took the challenge. It's on his Facebook page. I hope he'll put it up on Twitter as well. His stepson, Ryder, dumped a bucket of ice over him. :cheer: :encore:

Rockne Brubaker's was lovely too. It is on the Skate Today channel linked above.

By regular ice baths, does Jeremy mean falls, or is being a Polar Bear part of his regimen?

He may mean ice baths as a means of recovery after training. It is supposed to decrease pain and inflamation in muscles after exertion.

That would be a part of his recovery, I imagine. An ice bath is very common for elite athletes post-practice/match. (The Australian cricket team famously had a wheelie bin for many years that was filled with ice and water that all the players had to sit in for a while. Now, of course, they have fancier ice baths.)

Here is Max's (he tags Evan Lysacek, Urijah Faber (?) and LE BRON JAMES!: http://instagram.com/p/rvgq1XI2NS/

And Jason's (he tags his brother Dylan and sister Jordan, and Kori): http://instagram.com/p/rqWIV0zXHT/

And Jordan Moeller's (he tags a lot of people: Mariah Bell, Quinn Chambers, Erin Moeller (his sister maybe?), Emily Oltmanns, and an instagram user by the name of jiminycrikit who I can't figure out who it is): http://instagram.com/p/rqSgpKAp1h/

A lot of my favourite racing drivers are doing it too. Mitch Evans just tagged Mark Webber so I await that installment with great interest. :D

It was really fun to follow all those videos appear on Twitters and FBs.
But I kind of agree with what Jeremy wrote.
Also this article has a point too...

If 50% would have been donated to charity anyway, then 50% would not have been donated absent the public awareness program. I don't understand why this self-declared research fellow thinks this is a bad thing, except that he's annoyed people are donating to charities other than his own. (Americans will note that he's apparently British and lectures at a college in Cambridge, which will have us chortling over another obvious-to-us motive for his rant...)

I'm loving the way the figure skating community has responded to this fun challenge, which IMHO is for quite a good cause.
