    Great summary! Thanks for posting.

Looks like the Descendants or the Artist will be the BP, Clooney Best lead actor, Michelle Williams Best actress (sorry for Meryl for 100th time!), Jessica Chastain supporting actress, Albert Brooks Spoorting actor.

Looks like I should see the Descendants and Drive. I plan on seeing Marilyn, but if Meryl does not win this time, I would like the Oscar to go to Viola Davis.

Yes. The movie was totally confusing but Oldman was brilliant. Due to his performance, the movie remained gripping, even though you didn't have a clue what was going on.

    Thanks for this!

I can't believe Jean Dujardin has only received one award so far.

Speak for yourself; I had no trouble following the plot and wasn't confused at all.

I'm a big fan of Le Carre's Smiley series so I hope that helps me when I see it but it has been a long time since I read "Tinker, Tailor....." The movie is not here yet which irritates me.

YES! It's about time. I know he's been in some real drek and has a checkered past with substance and alcohol abuse..BUT. He has also done some amazing work over the years and I think he's been clean for a long time. Haven't seen TTSS yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I just want him to be nominated for an Oscar. He won't win. Even if he was the absolute best actor of the year (which I'm not saying he was) another Brit won last year's Best Actor, and the Oscars couldn't possibly let that go twice in a row! :blah:

But would they let a French man follow the Brit? I hear the lead in "The Artist" was excellent. The thing about Oldman is his strength (in the past and to me) was in supporting roles. So when he played the conservative Congressman in "The Contender" I was sure he would finally get a best supporting actor nod. Nope. Like you I just want the guy to be nominated and I'll be whooping it up if he is but I'm not expecting it.

I actually didn't like him in The Contender. It was too much of a stereotype for me. I thought he was lights-out fabulous in Leon, and I adored Immortal Beloved. Nothing better than Sid and Nancy. Rosencrantz and Gildenstern Are Dead was great-but those are all earlier in his career. I hope he has conquered his demons and can give us another 20 years of wonderful work-whether leading man or supporting actor...I don't care-just go for it, Gary! Good to know you are a fellow fan!

Looks like Best Supporting Actor will be a bloodbath between Albert Brooks and Christopher Plummer. Can't wait to see that folds out.

Thoughts: I canna wait to see "The Artist" -Jean Dujardin ROCKS!!!

Don't agree w/ Brad Pitt in Tree of Life. About 10 seconds into his first on-screen appearance, I could clearly see the role was meant for, and could only have been truly realized by, Heath Ledger. sorry so much, but Mr Pitt (whom I do count as an all-time fav) did not even come close.

and frankly, after watching Tree of Life 3 times, at different times not 3x in a row, I don't think it's an all-time grrrrreat film. Interesting, yes, but great? Um, no. It's too personal to be THAT great.

The two people I saw the film with were also confused, as was Roger Ebert. So I speak for four.

I saw The Descendants last night. It's totally deserving of many Oscar nominations. Haven't seen the Artist (and many others) yet.
