    Or so they say...

    The figure skating and short track palace
    At the same time, the Grand Ice Palace, with a total seating capacity of 12,000, will stop existing as a sporting facility: it will either be converted into a hotel complex or disassembled and removed from Sochi. For now, the arena promises to become one of the more impressive constructions in the city: its façade lines will resemble the trajectory of a triple toe-loop jump.
    The construction is being done on schedule: steel works have reached the 21-meter mark with a projected height of 32 meters. The remaining 4,500 tons of metal will be raised within six months. Only some finish works remain to be done in 2012, and in November, the palace will host its first competitions.
    I'm struggling to imagine this, clearly because I am not a good visual thinker.

    Sad though to hear that a big rink is going to be taken down right after the games.

    The article says that overall construction costs for all Sochi's facilities are going to be six times greater than expected. :eek:

    6 times greater than expected? :eek: That is absurd. Someone really messed up with that one, who was responsible for doing estimates?

    ...why didn't they make it look like a quad? Plush must be furious.

    That does seem silly, it's not like they will never use it again.

    I guess there is more demand for summer resort space than an ice arena in Sochi if they are planning on converting it to a hotel after the Olympics are over.

    Hopefully, the design was based on a triple toe-loop that was landed successfully.

    {imagining a gorgeous silver building with swooping lines and arcs ending in a big pile of rubble at one end}

    Well, everything is simple. 5/6 of this sum is supposed to be stolen.
