Umm, Olga Markova's neon green boa was a jazz number too, yes? Louis Armstrong? I pick that!
Does this music/performance count as jazz? It has a "jazzy" feel for me.
Love that program, paskatefan. Thanks for sharing it.
Shae-Lynn Bourne - 2009 Ice All Stars, All That Jazz
Sarah Hughes - 2002 Olympics Exhibition - Bye Bye Blackbird
It's too bad Denise didn't come back for the 94 LiliHammer Games. She landed 3lutz, 3t, and 3sal in 1990 like it was nothing. Didn't Witt finish 6th with just a 3toe?
Thank you everyone who contributed to this thread. I will for sure check some of your choices.
Here is one more:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPh-kAXsrwo - recent EX program from Takahiko Kozuka, "Moondance".
And the program which caused me to start this thread:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBL6vT9Z5Cw - "Puttin' on the Ritz" from Stéphane Lambiel
(TV version has a bit sloppy performance, unfortunately)
Plus far better spins than any of the medalists.
Kozuka is quite a jazz man
2005/2006 SP Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl43Hzy5eVs (Just music, couldn’t find a link to performance)
2005/2006 LP Piano Concerto in F by George Gershwin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuWpalAQoYU
2006/2007 Exhibition I Could Have Danced All Night by Jamie Cullum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHLMcdQE1O8
2008/2009 SP Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnpRKk1fdu0
2008/2009 Exhibition Save the Last Dance for Me by Michael Buble http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NALIvgHQMk (with 3S + reverse-rotation 2S combination )
2011/2012 SP Inner Urge by Joe Henderson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQqDLc_BkKY
And his lovely brand new exhibition to Moon Dance by Michael Buble http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPh-kAXsrwo
I just have to say I really like this guy’s music choices. Other than above mentioned he used some classic rock, rock folk, blues, (Simon & Garfunkel, Bee Gees, Nick Drake, John Mayer, Blues Brothers), some guitar (Guitar Concerto and Jimi Hendrix), great soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi.
Thank you for the list, kapriza. I really enjoy Takahiko's jazzy performances. Such more "intellectual" than passionate type of music fits his "cold" style of skating and performing, I think.
It took awhile to find but was worth it.
Jazz music from Stevie Wonder's album, Songs in the Key of Life. From Stars On Ice.
Thanks, Simone, for your comments and video contributions!
Same here. Taka may have an introverted personality or presence on the ice (and he's not the only one), but I find him delightful to watch.
Stephane Lambiel's "Let the Good Times Roll" at All That Skate LA 2010
I'm always a sucker for an "In the Mood", "Sing, Sing, Sing", or Gershwin program. If you go to "The Way They Were Thread" there is a link to a young Torvill and Dean skating to "In the Mood".
Elena Sokolova -Bublitchki (sounds more like Russian-Ukrainian folk song but originally is a jazz from mid 20's)
Ziggy Elman's orchestra
and Leonid Utesov.s version
There were some swing sequences in Denis Ten's Artist program.
Denis said that his competitive programs and their style were inspired by the exhibition program Stéphane Lambiel choreographed for him last summer.
A really nice one indeed:
"Singin' in the rain"
Kiira skating to Finnish jazz at the Olys in Vancouver
Thanks so much for this post! I was going to make a post about Takahiko myself but I don't need to anymore. "The inner urge" was one of my favorite short programs that year, but unfortunately his best performance of it was during a summer ice show, probably The Ice. He was right on the music there, didn't miss a beat, but unfortunately I cannot find it on youtube anymore.
Maria Butyrskaya always rocked the jazz pieces. Here are my favourites from her:
'99 Worlds SP - St James Infirmary
'98 Olympics SP - Fever
'96 Worlds SP - Blues
'02 Europeans Exhibition - Broadway Medley
Michelle Kwan's Eric Clapton SP:
