The West coast demands have been met . Also means I won't be going, but it should be a fun event.

eta: Thank you for letting us know, pat c.

Is Kelowna in what's called the Okanagan Valley? Isn't that BC's big vino area? :psoty: :rockstar:

Edited to confirm, and add link: EYS!!! :40beers: :psoty: :inavoid: :cheer2:

That's exciting news. One of my favorite wineries is in that area.

Kinda embarrassing, but I've never been to the Okanagan. I am trying to save up money for Boston Worlds so wasn't intending to go to any skating events in the meantime. Hmm...

But I'm glad they announced it early so we have time to make plans.

Yes, it's BC's major wine area.

The Okanagan Valley has some absolutely amazing wines and there's some fabulous wineries in Kelowna itself ;) I'm so excited!! Just a short road trip away!

Beautiful location, but not exactly a major airport there.

Unforunately, I don't think I can make that one. Too far to go for a weekend.

But happy for those who can. :)

Nice to see it go to the other coast for next year. :cheer2:

Kelowna's actually quite easy to fly to - lots of connecting flights from both Calgary and Vancouver, and there are also direct flights from Toronto, Seattle, and LA, so should be less difficult for international arrivals than many other places GPs have been held in both Canada and the US.

I haven't been travelling to SC much recently, because the reduced number of competitors and shortened schedule mean a lot of travel for relatively less skating, but will definitely plan on Kelowna next year (and manh, you really need to see a bit more of your province!).

I flew to Kelowna from Seattle and it was a breeze. It's pricey for U.S. travelers though. If I were to go I probably just drive.

I flew there when I lived in Seattle to see Brian Orser's Husky show. Small, friendly airport, lovely landscape, and nice town.

It's a longish drive from New Brunswick. :p Son # 1 lives in Vancouver so we might be able to do a combo trip.

Maybe I can convince my cousin to get married in Kelowna on the weekend of SC. ;) :2faced:

Kelowna made her short-list of places to get married...and the time and location of the wedding is currently TBD.

I already booked a room at the Delta Okanagan- the closest hotel (Possibly the Official hotel??). Not the cheapest place in town, though.

I may book another place, just in case they bump us- it has happened before.

The Delta Okanagan is really nice - I stayed there on a work trip a few years ago. Don't eat in the restaurants, though (mega $$$).

However, it has a casino attached to it. Everyone who went to Skate America in Everett knows how much fun that is :)

If you drive up to Abbotsford (through Lynden), you can go along the Trans-Canada to south of Hope, take the Coquihalla highway to Merritt, and then thake the Okanagan connector highway over to Kelowna. It would probably take about five hours from the Canada-US border.

It should be 4 hours or less from the border at Abbotsford, not five (per experience and web info). The Coquihalla and connector are pretty fast driving (unless there's nasty weather).

The connector from Merritt can have really seriously nasty fog. The road is good, but I've had to do that bit at 30km/hour because of fog. Just leave a little extra time in case. The Manteo is a great hotel. The Coast hotel on the main drag (I think it is the Coast Capri) is quite old.
