According to SC's Facebook page, the location for next year's SCI will be announced on Sunday. They are posting clues as to where the event will be held:

    1) Hometown of a multiple Canadian champion (doesn't say male or female)
    2) An Annual General Meeting was held there within the past 10 years.

I'm guessing Edmonton (and if it is, I'd better be seeing a whole lot of you there in MY stomping grounds!)...

    Come on, Edmonton!

Which Canadian champ is from Edmonton? Jamie Sale?

On Skatebuzz radio last night they mentioned an "intimate" venue....not sure either Edmonton or Winnipeg could be considered intimate......

2nd clue: the AGM was held there in the last 10 years.

    PEI had it in 2011.

No, Rob was from NS, and unfortunately he's been gone for more than 10 years.

They didn't say the champion was in the past 10 years, they said the multi-time champion was from that location. The AGM was there in the past 10 years.

    Which champion was from Windsor?

What are the 10 cities that hosted the agm? Edmonton, pei, Windsor, Vancouver, Toronto, Winnipeg. What are the other four?

Yes, but Jen was coached by Callaghan and she lived in Windsor and trained in Detroit for a few years.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I would love for it to be in Windsor! That's driving distance for me and I'm kind of kicking myself for not going to Mississauga this year. :(

Has there ever been an AGM in Windsor?

The cities I have (and I can't find them all) are Charlottetown, Halifax, Vancouver, Regina, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary. What are the missing 2?

Windsor has the 2012 Synchro Canadians in February, which might be a run through for the LOC for Skate Canada. That's the usual process before an international competition.
On the other hand I'd bet on Skate Canada being back in Mississauga next year.

I was at an AGM in Windsor, but I can't remember what year it was. It's also been in Quebec City, the year after Windsor, I think (or before). It's also been in Edmonton too, but again, I can't remember the year.

Gotta love how Windsor is described as being "western" Ontario. ;) What's that make Thunder Bay?

Well, that will be another SC I won't be attending. The last time I flew to Windsor from Alberta for an AGM, the flight was ridiculous. When I factor in the cost of paying for a sub for a couple days, and everything else, it's just too expensive.

I guess I need a different job -- or hope that SA is in the western part of the US next year.

You have to pay for a sub if you take a day off?

What if you're sick or if there's a family emergency? Same thing?

And is that true elsewhere in Canada and in other countries? (Does anyone here know?)

We get sick days, and 2 days per year for family illness, but if we want to take personal days (max of 4 per year), we pay the cost of the sub (almost $200/day, including their benefits).

    Back to SC discussion...

Yay Windsor!!! I know where I'm going next fall. ISU, please plan now to get all my fave skaters there so I get to see them all in one place (especially a certain pairs team who needs to have a GP on North America again sometime before Sochi, LOL). :p

Too bad I no longer live in Ohio. That would have been a four hour drive for me.

Even when flying on an Amerikan carrier to DTW (as opposed to flying AC to YQG)? Delta should have direct flights to DTW from YEG/YYC, or you can connect through ORD on American/United.

Should be a really nice arena. The Windsor Family Credit Union Centre just opened a few years ago.

A site that provides arena reviews for the travelling hockey fan has a few pics of the arena and some information on it:

Oh you can get there. But sometimes to make the flights/connections work it requires more time, and time is money. :) Neither Lee or I live super close to airports, so we have to allow for driving time too. For instance, to make my flights work for Cdn Nats in London, the flight I had to take was 6 am, which means you go into the city a day early as the weather is too unpredictable to start driving say at 3 a.m. So, in that case, London was 2 extra days to make it work. It is what it is.

Windsor operates a cross border bus, but it doesn't look like you can catch it at the airport in Detroit. Perhaps some locals FSUers will know about other options for those flying into Detroit.

I miss attending Skate Canada. Maybe next year.

I just checked Expedia -- no direct flights from either Edmonton or Calgary, and all flights are over $800. Ain't gonna happen.

For me it depends on wether I go the US or Canadian way.
Go the US way and it means crossing the border at Sarnia/Port Huron and then again at Detroit/Windsor. Shorter driving time -- about an hour from PH to Detroit but who know how long the wait may be on the bridges.
Go the Canadian way and it's 2 hours minimum.
If I don't have my mom still living with me, it *could* be doable.

awww. Happy for those who live close by or have an easy/cheap/short trip to the event. I'll have to wait until SC is in the west. It will be back at some point...and I'll be there in a flash. :cheer2:
