Well, based on some prior comments as well as the attached, it looks like SA 2012 is yet again on the West Coast and in Washington State(Kent). The announcement will be made at 9:45 AM PST

There's an arena in Kent? My only knowledge of Kent is the Great Wall Mall (love the name) and IKEA.

Anyways, yes!!! And it's very close to the airport, y'all!

Based on the fact that 4 out of the last four US figure skating events have been on the West Coast or just about (SA 2011, 2012 Nationals, 2012 Four Continents & 2012 SA), 2014 Nationals had better be in Boston!

Disson Skating's "Unforgettable Moments of Love on Ice" was held at the ShoWare Center in Kent, WA, on January 26, 2012 and televised by NBC on February 4.

I've enjoyed attending competitions in the Northwest Pacific region (2005 US Nationals in Portland; 2008 Skate America in Everett, WA, 2007 & 2010 Nationals in Spokane, WA) and hope I can go to this one!

At least the hotel room rates don't look too bad. But then again, that's before the local hotels get wind of it and decide to jack them up to what the market will bear. I just checked the rates in Omaha, Nebraska for Nationals' week and the Courtyard is now charging $249 a night if you haven't already nailed down the $139 rate through the housing authority.

Because it's close to the airport (well, actually two airports), there are a lot of hotels. And, yes, a lot of these hotels have shuttles. If you want to explore Downtown Seattle, drive to the park n ride to the Link Right Rail (on the weekends, the parking lots are empty).

I have relatives in Kent; so I can see them while I'm there.
I do understand your frustration, though, Doris and pollyanna.
I was hoping to meet both of you!

I'll be there but was hoping not to have to make that long 2700-mile haul so soon again. Dang Midwest and East Coast never stepping up!

Yet another event I'm not going to. Does USFSA hate the East Coast? This is getting ridiculous.

I'm disappointed it's not more convenient for the East Coast, but glad that they have local clubs in the Pacific West willing to support and put on the event.

    I feel the same.
We can't question why the Western US keeps getting events, if other areas won't bid or support them!

WA fans will fill seats; they have proven this in the past. Not saying the east coast couldn't/wouldn't do the same, but they may be playing it safe after last year's sad, empty event :shuffle:

Either East Coast clubs aren't doing a good job with bidding or bidding at all or someone at the USFS Headquarters just likes going to the West Coast.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe clubs are involved in the awarding of SA, b/c it's an ISU event. I imagine that the volunteer base in an area might be considered, but I suspect it's almost entirely about cost and availability, plus the requirement that there has to be a Hilton nearby to serve as the host hotel. And if the USFSA keeps waiting until the spring before to choose the location, it's not surprising their options are limited.

Actually, I don't think clubs are even involved in the awarding of Nats anymore. The past few years, it has seemed to be some sort of local tourism or sports/business group that handled the bid process and the event organization.

someone in the area has to be willing and make an effort to lobby for the event. Maybe it's the clubs, maybe it's the local tourism bureau, but no one is going to award a competition to a city that hasn't shown that they are ready for it and interested.

I was under the impression that the USFSA has been delaying the announcements because of the lack of options, not the other way around.

For me, it does not matter if it is East Coast or West Coast. I live in the deep South; therefore, I know that if I want to attend skating events (competition or exhibition) I have to travel long distance.

This is going far beyond local clubs stepping up. It's the kowtowing/pandering of Gregoire that's in play here.
