I vote for Portland.......Maine. :) We had two SAs back in the Eighties. We have an international Jetport, and TONS of restaurants and hotels right near the Civic Center. But I know that’s not gonna happen.
    Boston would be good, too

Portland is absolutely wonderful and extremely traveler freindly. Lots to see outside of skating and absolutely wonderful food, including but not limited to lobster! :D

Me too..easy driving distance for me. Though I'm going to Skate Canada in Windsor; not sure if I can take that much time off.

I'd love to go to Portland, Maine. I have never been to Maine, and I have always wanted to go.

Do we know who made the bid? Since the weather has been so weird, I'd prefer warmer climate and avoid any location with potential snow storm/blizzard.

I haven't seen anything on actual bids - so far we are all just wishing and speculating.

Well, that's an easy drive from Minneapolis.

It's also a boring drive from Minneapolis.

92 Nats were in Orlando, and from what I have read, I think it will be a long time before USFS puts another event there. But Tampa has a fairly large skating community (and is home to E/L and the Peterson/Johnston training group) so that might be an option.

I'm sure the FSUers who attended can offer more details than me, but I've heard there were a lot of organizational and financial problems. The host club was eventually thrown out of the USFSA.

Is it probable that we'll know 2014 Nationals location before we know this year's Skate America?

It is interesting to note that we know the bidders for '14 Nats but not for Skate America. Is that a bad sign?

I had wondered why Orlamdo, with all its' facilities and advantages for visitors, had never gotten another event. I think I know why, now.
    What an embarrassment!

I'm all for that! The Fargodome would be a great place to host it. :cheer:

Skate America location has been announced the last few years somewhere between late January and mid March.

Maybe the tourism bureau didn't think they needed to get behind anything other than Disney and the other theme parks?

I think you are a very wise person. The IT person at USFS just quit out of disgust, as other folk have. Word from a very reliable sourse is that Nats 2014 will be Boston, St. Paul, Greensboro, or possibly Denver.

I sure wish they'd announce it soon. This wait is a little ridiculous, especially for those trying to plan their time off from work this year. :shuffle:

I hope attendance is good this year. Last year had to have been an all-time low. I couldn't believe how empty the sessions were! :slinkaway

^Where was it last year? I forget already. But yes, I agree on wishing they'd hurry it up on the announcement, I want to try to go if it's anywhere nearby!

It was in Ontario, CA, east of L.A. I think the location was announced in early March.

Portland 2010 wasn't announced until May, so it could still be awhile!

Thanks, Debbie S! But ugh, I certainly hope that we don't have to wait until May!

Last year, SA and Nationals were both held in the same area. That usually results in lower attendance. I really think the two events should be in different parts of the Country to attract higher attendance. I wish they'd go back to rotating regions as well. But that's my two cents.

I'd vote for Boston. Easy commuter rail transport options and I'd get to sleep at home. :D
