Murray drops the first set in a tiebreak to Istomin....
LOL. You have to bring an umbrella and those new cooling towels that Serena endorses.
Berdych never learned how to handle wind. Not surprised Wawrinka is coming through.
I feel so badly for Hewitt! It would have been nice for him to make it to a slam quarter finals--something he hasn't done in ages.
WOW WAWRINKA!! Perhaps he's beginning to realize that he can become the top Swiss dog of tennis!
Btw guys, talking of events to go to; if you're in Europe I highly recommend RG and Wimbledon of course but the Italian Open is a riot! Beautiful site, great atmosphere, well attended and now a mixed event. Stuttgart and Eastbourne are also great tournaments worth a visit.
Right?!?!? Berdych is wily and makes some amazing shots, but Stan was like a TANK out there! It was rather impressive.
I managed to miss the Berdych vs. Wawrinka match. Sounds worth watching on replay.
This must warm Flavia's heart. She used to be the best Italian but in recent years she has seen Schiavone, Errani, and even Vinci pas her by and Schiavone and Errani do things she never has done. Now it is fitting in this great comeback event she crushes 2 of those Italians along the way. It is almost making a statement she wants to be the best Italian again. I hope she makes the final. She can, Azarenka is not in form this event.
I for Dickie Gasquet's backhand.
Nor in the best shape . I was crushed and when Flavia put the rain delay in her game against Halep to good use and came back to close out the game in straight sets, but I love the way she plays and hope she does well here. It's nice to see someone who comes to the net as much as she does doing well. Will be an interesting match-up with Azarenka, whenever that's played.
I cannot explain how much I want Gasquet to win this.
I am so excited for Flavia too, didn't see the match today but was surprised it was so quick! She's beat several seeds now in convincing fashion, it's so impressive.
I'm so happy for Flavia! She was doing so well and it's always so hard to come back from injury especially if you're an "older" player. Absolutely love her game
Second great result of the day (after Flavia)
Kudos to Gasquet for today's win. That's two tough 5 set matches in a row .. wow.
Tomorrow's schedule is out!!!
Bryan boys AND Andy/Stan!!!!!
*plotzing so hard right now*
I thought Ferrer would win even after he lost the 1st two sets, and once it went to a 5th, I thought Ferrer would run away with it.
What a great (and shocking) win by Richard.
So happy for Gasquet too - if Raonic couldn't win, I want to see Richard go as far as possible.
ETA - well, apologies to Robredo but I can't say I'd blame anyone in the audience tonight for feeling robbed. (Not that I'd expect Federer to have won the way Rafa played.)
One of many celeb sightings at the Open. And apparently they're getting much nicer weather out there after all the soupy, muggy, stormy weather earlier this week and last weekend.
Next up Andy and Stan!! Quick question if Stan wins will he rise above Federer in the world - and swiss - rankings?
Let's go, Stan the Man!
Saw him last week, he as very impressive
i hope at least one of stan or dickie can advance
i dont care about the doubles rankings pam, in just watching now so i dont miss stan
No. Roger has 4695 and Stan 2610 points. Roger will gain 180 R16 points, but will drop 360 QF 2012 points. So he'll have 4515 points after the USO. If Stan wins the title, he'll gain 2000 championship points, but will drop 180 R16 2012 points. So he would have 4430 points if he wins--pretty much right on Roger's tail!
