I am looking for some examples of ladies skaters performing great triple salchows. Links to YouTube videos would be appreciated.

I also think Sasha Cohen has great lift on her salchows.

Denise Beillman had a great 3s and probably still does.

Yuka Sato's salchow was pretty awesome.

Courtney Hicks (U.S. Junior Champion) has a fantastic 3salchow. I can't search for a video now, but her 3S in the free skate at Nationals got several +3 GOEs and really took my breath away (it was done right after a huge split jump, IIRC). http://www.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2011/68096/SEGM010.html. She also got high GOEs for it (all +1s and +2s) at Junior Worlds.

^^ For all those who don't know, you can tag a youtube video at a particular time. Just find the part of the video you want to point to and press pause. Right click marker and select "Copy URL at current time". Then just paste or hyperlink it...

You're right Pinky! Risa's 3s-3t was very big and covered a lot of ice. She reminds me a lot of Shizuka with a little bit of Mao sprinkled in. I like her! :)

And here's Courtney Hicks' Russian split into a salchow...really nice!

I can't find the video but I once saw Nicole Bobek do a really nice inside axel-3salchow combination. It might have been during the LP warmups at 95 Worlds. She did not do it successfully in the program, though. I wish more people would do this combo but it is probably not worth it anymore. If someone could do a good inside 2axel/3salchow combo that would be amazing!

How do you do an inside axel? Does that mean the axel takes off from an inside edge? How is that possible?

The combination that Bobek did (Jill Trenary, Michael Chack, Michael Slipchuk, and Krisztina Czako come to mind as others I have seen perform it) was ONE-FOOT AXEL-triple salchow.

Normal axel takeoff, lands on the same foot as it takes off from, on a back inside edge, allowing a salchow takeoff immediately following.

See Trenary example here (not clean landing on the triple sal):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFxBgF7jc-k

An "inside axel" is a different jump entirely. Takes of from the forward inside edge of the other foot and rotates 1.5 times.
See example at 4:10 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKv3NJhtm3I

Laetitia Hubert's 1997 Worlds LP Salchow was amazing, but I can't find a video.

Surya Bonaly has one of the best Salchow ever.
Especially those she did right after a Walley and Half-Loop : Surya's 3Sal

Cohen is the first one that popped into my mind.

I'm not re-watching salchow attempts, but I think Cohen pre-rotates much less than Ando does. Am I wrong? Or maybe this just applies to quad attempts?

Cohen could have been so great (well, she was - she just wasn't able to deliver her goods all the time).
You can really see that whenever she thought she had nothing to lose. Like in that LP finale.

But this Salchow is not textbook. Her take off seems to be on 2 feet, which is not the right technique. ;)

Her salchow during this particular performance (94 Olys) was the first one I thought of when I saw this thread. It was very sweeping and quietly executed.

I always loved Liz Manley's even if they weren't textbook.

One foot axel is also known as a College named after Cecilia College, and the inside axel is also known as a Boekl, named after Willy Boekl. A boekl landed on the other foot is called a Boekay. There have been some amazing double boekl's landed on roller. Such a wierd jump though.

    RE: Risa's 3s-3t

I understand that the two-foot take-off in a Salchow is accepted technique now.

One of my favourite salchows is the one done by Midori Ito on the back of her double axel at 1987 Worlds. The whole sequence is totally amazing, but the sal is huuuuuuge and I think one of the best she ever landed.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9KJwpQbOHY&feature=player_detailpage#t=202s

ETA: Just re-watching that again, teh sequence seems to take up almost the entire width of the rink!! Another +3 GoE element from Midori

It is. I'm not a skater so I don't know, but it seems like it would be easier to jump off from two feet. I've always wondered about this and also the loop which many people do from two feet unless it's the second jump in a combo.

The free foot brushing the ice on the salchow take-off does not equate to jumping from two feet. The skating leg (left leg for CCW skater) has to bear the majority of the skater's weight on the entrace and take-off. Once he's in the air then he switches his weight over to the right side of his body. Saying that a skater take-off from two feet implies that his body weight is evenly distributed between both legs before take-off, and this is simply not possible to do for any of the 6 standard skating jumps.

It may appear someone is taking off from two feet but they aren't doing that on the loop.

I guess. It just seems like some skaters might use their free foot to push off on the ice.
However, I think it might make it harder to rotate compared to having the free leg just swing around.

I think so too and it's likely why she attempted quad sals in her day. It was the easiest jump but an excellent jump for her technique-wise.
