    Today: MSNBC article

Personally, I always thought he was unhappy that his acting career wasn't becoming as acclaimed as he may have wanted. I think some of his personal life didn't help, either, but it wasn't near as bad as some others.

I always thought he just wandered around pouting. He just doesn't come off as that happy of a person - no matter what he does.

yeah, does it count as quitting if he wasn't working?

He was also in Crash. I remember seeing him jump for joy when the movie won the Oscar for Best Picture. I think it was the same Oscars that Reese won for Best Actress in Walk the Line.

He was in "McGruber" and the recent Mathew MacCounahey's lawyer movie.

Remember when Amanda Byrns tweeted that she quit acting and then she unretired heself a month later, LOL ?

I just saw him in 'The Lincoln Lawyer'. It wasn't a lead role, but it was a very important supporting role. I thought he did OK.

    Sorry kids...it's not true:

    Ryan Phillippe Not Quitting Acting

Personally, I think he's one of the best actors of his generation. Flags Of Our Fathers, Crash, Gosford Park, Stop-Loss, Igby Goes Down, Cruel Intentions, Breach, White Squall. I'd be happy with that resume!

I like Ryan's acting. He was especially good in Igby Goes Down and Crash. And I think he makes some interesting acting choices. He doesn't seem at all interested in comic book movies so I respect that (or maybe he's tried to get involved in those types of movies but he keeps getting rejected, but I somehow doubt this).

If I were his agent, though, I'd advise him to get some scripts where his romantic or comedic side is displayed. He can sometimes come off either extremely earnest or extremely petulant. I think Ryan and someone like Natalie Portman or Anne Hathaway would make such a lovely on-screen duo. Or perhaps a May/December romantic comedy co-starring Joan Allen or Anette Bening.

I saw him in this role, also. I was amazed at how young (boyish) he looked. I missed the opening credits and actually looked up the movie on Wikipedia in the middle of the movie just so I could figure out who it was. He was very convincing in that role.

Okay, I'll give you that those films would comprise a good (not great) resume. However, he wasn't good in most of those films. I'll admit he surprised me in Gosford Park, but I don't think he was very good in any of the other films. While Cruel Intentions in a guilty pleasure for me, it's not a well-acted film.

In don't think anyone should be thrilled to have Cruel Intentions on their resume

I did like Phillipe in Igby Goes Down, though.

He was a child actor, wasn't he?
I think Ryan suffers from "Pretty Boy Who Isn't Taken Seriously"
Maybe when he gets older and isn't so pretty anymore, he will get better roles.

Maybe he should do like the beautiful actresses and play a gruesome ugly role like Charlize Theron in Monster.

I don't think the opening credits showed names of the actors. I knew Matthew McConaghy (sp?) was in it, but didn't realize Ryan was in it until after the movie was over. I thought he was very convincing in that role (criminal, trying to appear innocent, and doing it well). It was a pretty good movie.

Agree - I saw him at a bar a couple of years ago, and he and his friends were just sitting there looking miserable, not even talking to each other.

I've never cared for him as far as acting but I have always thought he was quite the looker. However, he has always come off as smug and up tight and it taints his image.

The last major role she had was in Swept Away which was in 2002. Almost 10 years. She does have a new role listed on her IMDB page for a film set for 2012 called Sunset Boulevard. I am not a Madonna uber, just looked it up.

According to Wikipedia, his first acting job was on One Life to Live in 1992. He was born in 1974 so he would have been around 18 at the time.

No dirt this time, jamesy; other than the fact that Philippe sounds like a self-important bint....you wanna quit acting Ryan? Do it already...no one cares.

His film career isn't doing so well. The last thing I liked that he made was Antitrust, but then the rest of the cast outshone him.

Expect him to be doing TV soon...

Ryan has four movies yet to be released:

    Setup (with Bruce Willis)
Chronicle (with Milla Jovovich, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ben Foster and Justin Long)
Tlatelolco: Mexico 68 (with John Leguizamo)
By Virtue Fall (with Eric Bana and Carla Gugino)

Sounds like the kid's doing okay. :)

He chooses great ensemble pieces, where in can blend in and no one really notices his limitations as an actor.

    Like I said....

Didn't Amanda Bynes try this too? She quit via Twitter, miraculously recanted a week or so later after she was offered a job.

There's a ton of work behind the scenes, so he could make a decent living going in that direction.

At least. And everyday, for this, I thank God.
