According to Wikipedia, one player and one member of the crew survived the plane crash. Player Alexander Galimov is reported to have severe injuries and that he has burnings on 80% of his body.

    How horrible and heartbreaking. :(

Ex-NHLer Pavol Demitra is confirmed dead in the crash, as is coach Brad McCrimmon, who played for the Calgary Flames and last year was an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings.

My thoughts are with all of the families and friends.

German National Player Robert Dietrich is apparently also among the victims. It's so tragic: He had a contract with the German team Adler Mannheim until 2013 but left them after last season because he wanted to play in Russia so badly. It just breaks my heart.

ETA: It has been confirmed player Alexander Galimov died at the hospital :(

When will the Russians stop letting these old planes fly?
It's not the first time an old plane crashes in Russia just because it should not be flying anymore.
    This makes me so angry!

Just so, so tragic. I'm so sorry for all those left behind and for all those players I've watched and enjoyed over the years like Pavol Demitra who was on board today, thank you for sharing your great talent with us. You'll all be missed. RIP.

Apparently Alexander Galimov did not die but is still in a highly critical condition.

My condolences and prayers go out to the vitims and their loved ones and special vibes go out to the two still in hospital. Terrible news. Apparently the team had players with ten different nationalities on their team including their coach who was Canadian. R.I.P.

How unbelievably sad and tragic - my sincerest condolences to all of the friends and families of the crash victims, as well as the 10 nations whose countrymen were players or coaches on the team :( :fragile: .

I can't help but have the same feelings about skaters, coaches, officials, managers, and family members of the 1961 United States figure skating team who were killed in the crash of Sabena Flight 548 on the way to the World Championships that year :(

    This one really hits home:

Two of those killed in the crash (Brad McCrimmon- team coach, and Igor Korolev- assistant coach) once played for the Phoenix Coyotes (1996-1997) which is the NHL team here in Phoenix. Korolev also played for the Phoenix Roadrunners, a non-NHL team in Phoenix.

Here is the article in our local newspaper (The Arizona Republic):

    RIP

I feel like I've been slugged in the gut. :(

As a Calgary Flames fan, I watched Brad for many years, so this hits hard.

What an awful lot of loss those of us in the Hockey Community, both those in the game and us fans, have had this Off Season. This though...What a horrible, horrible loss.

My Condolences to the Families and Friends. May they all Rest In Peace. :(

4 of those killed played on the Grand Rapids Michigan Griffins semi-pro hockey team. And was mentioned upthread their coach Brad McCrimmon was Detroit Red Wings assistant coach last season. Just :wuzrobbed

Brad McCrimmon was an assistant coach for the Wings too. Here's an article about Red wing head coach Babcock's visiting his family. Heartbreaking.

The hockey world really is a small world. Such a tragedy. So many lives touched.

Just read on a few German news sites that players from other KHL clubs have expressed their wishes to play for Lokomotiv now.
It's amazing how much they are willing to show their support after this horrible tragedy.
