To those who knew CaptCrunch (David Forberg), news has hit the SkateFans list that he passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. He was in his early 50s. :(

David was one of my most favorite people in all of skating, and his passing continues 2011's streak as the sh*ttiest year ever. :(

On FSU, he was more active in the "other sports" forum than in the skating forums, but he had endless, encyclopedic knowledge of pre-COP skating (as well as several other sports!).

The skating world - and many of us - have lost a great friend. RIP, David. You were taken from us too soon.

    OMG. No! :fragile:

Yes, Louis, David was such a quality person ... I'd met him over the years, and really liked him. Horrible news. :(

I never knew that David was CaptCrunch, though. We've been peas in a pod all these years in Other Sports, where David has been a wonderful and thoughtful sports fan (we will feel his absence there for sure), but it seems neither of us knew we knew each other in RL.

RIP, David. I'm getting more :fragile: by the minute. So sad.

If nobody else can get to it, I'll post this in the Other Sports forum, later today, for the non-supporting FSUers. David/CaptCrunch has been a huge presence in the college football and tennis forums. :(

Most of my views on subjects skating or otherwise were diametrically opposed to his, but it's always sad when somebody so relatively young passes away.RIP. :(

I didn't realize that CaptCrunch was David Forberg. I don't think I read many of his posts here on FSU, but he was a definite presence on skatefans.
He will be missed. :( Condolences to his friends and family.

I got to know David very well during the time we both lived in Dallas. Some of my favorite moments was getting together with him and our friend Erik to watch skating, especially the 1998 Olympics.

I'm going to miss him very much. He was a true friend, very knowledgeable about all kinds of sports and I loved our phone chats about college football, the NFL (maybe his beloved Lions will win it all this year), swimming, and tennis.

Rest in Peace, David. I never forget our friendship.

I was emailed this very sad news this morning by a mutual friend. I never got to meet David in person - something I shall always regret - but thanks to chance and some mutual acquaintances, enjoyed many years of sharing skating footage and chatting about the history of the sport together. He knew sooo much about the sport and we are the poorer for his passing. I'm just so shocked at this news. Too young. May he rest in peace and all my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

RIP David. I will miss you :(
