I heard he wasn't doing well. Loved him in Blazing Saddles.

One thing I loved about his acting is the way he acted with his face.

And one of the best defensive tackles in the history of the NFL. Hopefully he will now finally get into the NFL Hall of Fame. He deserves it. He was that good.

RIP, Mongo. You entertained me in so many ways. Thank you.

NJL (...and I just saw "Blazing Saddles" on TV last week. It was the 1st time I'd seen it. Very PI and hilarious...;)...)

Too bad that it didn't happen while he was here to appreciate the honor.

Sad news. He was great in Victor/Victoria, and seemed like the perfect Dad in Webster.

Nice to see he and Susan Clark were still married. They made a nice couple.

    RIP

I heard it said today that Alex was Warren Sapp or Cortez Kennedy before those guys were even born. He was that good of a defensice tackle!

Between him and Merlin Olsen, Defensive Tackles of the 60's did pretty well in the entertainment field.

I only heard about just how badly his health was yesterday during the Supper Hour Sportscast and that he wasn't expected to make it to the weekend. What a shame that couldn't have been wrong. :(

I'll have to break out my Season Three M*A*S*H DVD's later and watch the episode where he plays a Marine that Hawkeye saved and, in turn, he becomes Hawkeye's "right hand man" in payment for saving his life. Really funny episode, but the best part is when Frank starts going on about the report all that happened in this episode will end up making for the General he and Hotlips were going to send it to, and when Frank refuses to shut up, Alex picks him up and twirls him around until the promise of no report's made. :D

He really was such a talented man and seemed like such a gentle man too. Lovely to hear he and Susan were still married and my heart goes out to her tonight, as well to all of his Friends and Family.

May he rest in peace. :(

I am so happy you mentioned Merlin Olsen. I was going to mention him too. I loved him as an actor. Such big brawny guys showing a depth of love and kindness. Both wonderful actors and men. I believe Merlin died last year, or maybe it was this year (this year has seemed like three for me). Two wonderful athletes, and warm actors. You couldn't NOT like them on screen.
