Good for him for finally coming out, everyone needs to do it at their own pace/time, but the more folk who do come out, the better, IMHO.

Who cares at this point. I knew he was gay when he was on General Hospital.

Not a surprise but I'm happy he's comfortable enough to come out. Good for him.

    HUGE surprise

But congrats to him for coming out. It takes a lot of courage for anyone to do that, let alone someone in the public eye from a culture where homosexuality isn't as accepted as it is in some other places (though sadly not nearly enough places).

Cool. And :respec: for his main theme "a fortunate homosexual man", in deference to those millions who are not so fortunate.

Glad he came out his own, versus responding to any of the hundreds of wink winks and "friend of a friend said" stuff (and, er, more telling beach cavorting pics) from the past decade.

Still a dreamy guy, must say. Ricky's breakout performance of Livin' La Vida Loca (AMAs?) is still one of the hottest vids ever.

Wow, what a week. First Sean Hayes, and now Ricky Martin. Who knew? :p Knock me over with a feather if Janet Reno is next.

Sean Hayes? I missed that news! I must have spaced it out. I'm feeling a little bit Spacey now...

I've been on FSU far too much since the Olympics, because my first thought on seeing this thread title was "what world championships is that for?"

We're talking about the actor who played 'Jack' in Will & Grace, yes?

Did Sean Hayes have a public announcement? I know there was some article about him being mad that a gay newspaper claimed that he was trying to hide it so he replied to it in an angry tone.

So did why-is-he-a-celeb Perez ever tried to out Martin? It would be a surprised if he simply left Ricky alone.

His big breakout performance for me was The Cup of Life at the Grammy's in 1999. I'm not thinking I knew of him before that point.

Glad to read that he's finally comfortable enough to not hide the truth anymore.

As for Sean Hayes, I hadn't realized he'd never actually said it publically that he was gay.

I am happy for Ricky but the cynic in me just knows her has something to promote. So what is it? A new CD? A book? It always works out that way...

Maybe I'm a less cynical person in general, but I don't see coming out as something you do for promotion reasons, especially when a lot of your fans are Latino, who are mostly Catholic. I see it as something you do when you're ready to do it, promotion or not.

    Yes.

The guy that played Will is actually straight. Is the guy that played Stanford on Sex and the City gay?

    Now waiting for Anderson Cooper.

First Sean Hayes. Now Ricky Martin.

I think I was more shocked when I found out Tom Zakrajsek was married...to a woman!

Same for me and thanks for that clip! Eleven years later and I still remember watching that moment .. I was talkig to my brother and I stopped mid-word almost after the first 5 seconds and how my jaw hit the floor watching the number mesmerized and when he was finished screamed "who the hell is THIS guy!!!!". I had never heard of him before that and I was out buying CD's the next day. :biggrinbo

I also thought "The Cup of Life," a.k.a. "La Copa de la Vida," was already quite popular internationally as it was the official song of the 1998 World Cup held in France. :)

I remember my 5 year old son dancing around the living room singing "The Cup of Life" back then. Good times.

    Glad he's finally out.

I know Ricky since when I was too young to understand he was on the other team and perved after him(wasn't too young to do that ;) ) in 1995 singing and dancing to Un, dos, tres..."Maria"
I think I have something going on with cross-eyed gay man, Tom ford being the other one :wuzrobbed

It's interesting that most people here mentioned La Copa de la Vida and Livin' La Vida Loca. Those songs didn't have a prominent place in the Black & White Tour. The song that most people sang was Vuelve. I love his Spanish songs, but I'm not crazy about his English ones.

"Vuelve" is an INCREDIBLE album! The one for which he won that first Grammy, IIRC. The title song is just gorgeous.

    Really??
I don't think so, at least not in Argentina. If anything, I think that at least half of his fanbase will be trilled to know they actually have a chance to date him
Honestly, like this surprised anyone , it only confirmed what everybody "knew" for decades in latinamerica, or in Argentina at least. a few years ago there where pictures of him taken at his Miami place in which he appeared alone with a very well known gay argentinian TV personality. Everybody just asumed...
His fanbase here didn't shrink one bit because of that then, so I don't think it will now.

Don't really know the guy, but I've been hearing about the rumors for quite a while.

Yeah, I've been hearing about Anderson Cooper as well. Who's next?
