I figured Suede would be on the bottom but preferred Ivy's design over Emilio's.
As did I.
I thought that Emilio's jacket looked "clunky".
I felt Ivy's was too similar to what she made in prior challenges, with a slight variation on the jacket. I've also never been a fan of short opaque skirt with longer transparent skirt, but that's just me.
I loved Emilio's, which is the first time I think I've ever said that. I don't remember his odd lisp from his season. What's up with that?
I also really liked Kayne's, and was quite annoyed when they called him with the other five, because I knew who would be top and bottom.
I would have had Casanove in top three over Anthony Ryan's little striped dress. Casa's wasn't perfect, but it was so much more interesting than AR's, both in terms of fabric (painting and use) and vision. It was much more "wearable art" than the other.
Reuven can’t say Reuven is displeased about Suede’s departure.
I really did like his (except the top), and did not get the dislike. It was a lot less chopped off than that one that stopped at the knee. And the vapors over "you're adding WIDTH!" Really? Where? Last season (IOW, like four or five weeks ago), didn't the normal judges go on about how daring someone (Christopher's?) avant-garde look was because he padded the model's hips to give her an hourglass shape? I mean, OMG, ONOES! THEY TOOK A SIZE 00 MODEL AND MADE HER LOOK LIKE SHE MIGHT POSSIBLY HAVE ADULT FEMALE SECONDARY SEXUAL CHARACTERISTICS! It's not like they were making her look huge or like these were even intended for sale to "normal" sizes.
Amen, to this!
I thought it was nearly as bad as Seude's, and significantly worse than Laura's.
I love Laura Kathleen, so she can do no wrong in my eyes (normally). I may just have lingering love for her decoy collection (which to me was the best ever to not make broadcast). I wasn't a fan of her outfit last night, but others were worse.I would have put Josh in the bottom 3
Kayne should have gone home for that mermaid graffiti disaster. Ivy tossed some words onto crap sewn onto chiffon and was in the top 3? I don't get these judges. And I totally have no clue who hillbilly 1 & 2 'guest' judges were. WTH were they wearing?
I still don't know who they were/are.
After seeing them, I doubt that their designs would be of interest.
They looked like the Red Green Show had a trunk sale (except on Red Green, they managed to be reasonably color-coordinated.)
Maybe they were modeling the Emmet Kelly collection?
Well this All-Star season doesn't seem to hold enough razzle-dazzle to maintain our interest, but there are two weeks of shows (Thanksgiving week skipped), we haven't discussed.
I enjoyed Anthony Ryan's fan picture-inspired dress that won the week before Thanksgiving (his prize was a feature in USA Today). Emilio had a close second that week with his impractical but cool yellow and white fluffy puff of a dress. Laura Kathleen did a very good job with her water-inspired print ensemble.
I felt sorry for Althea being before the judges that week for the first time in the bottom three -- her concept was interesting but the execution re the drop-crotch pants really suffered. Also, I was aghast at Joshua's strange but colorful mess of an outfit. He was lucky that the judges had grown so seriously tired of Andrae's shtick (ironically Andrae was eliminated for a similar picture-inspired challenge in which he had excelled during his original season). BTW, was that sixteen-year-old guest judge actually 16-years-old??!!
In general, I feel sorry for those designers who get called safe so often and therefore don't have the opportunity to get feedback from the judges (especially Joshua and Althea who have had some good outfits called safe, but then have gotten nailed in the bottom three for unfortunate missteps).
Last night's broadcast again was overall boring in the way they put it together. I absolutely hate the clueless quick-cutting during the runway shows which makes it impossible to enjoy viewing and actually getting to see a good look at all the outfits. Have to go to the website for a better look (but maybe that's their intent re the crazy cutting and special effects during the show). The androgyny/ avant-garde challenge was strange, but I think the judges' pick for the win was correct -- Emilio hit a slam dunk. Both of his models looked very hot as well as androgynous as they came down the runway, and they also could have worn each other's outfits. The color, the fabric, and the avant-garde edginess really suited the challenge.
There were some good efforts last night, even among those called safe. I had hoped that Laura Kathleen would be auf'ed for her awful "cut-out" messes -- she's had a lot of poor efforts (despite a good outfit in the previous week). I'm kinda fed up with her clueless personality and her bambi-like eyes. I like Kayne a lot (despite his tendency to constantly "jump the shark" and do too much, often in a tasteless fashion). Still his outfits last night, while loud, were better than Laura Kathleen's. Kayne mainly made his worst mistake with the clash of yellow on the female model.
In the new PR poll thread for the final three, every PR prognosticator seems to be on the same page so far, unsurprisingly. Right from the beginning Uli, Emilio and Anthony Ryan were obviously the best All-Star designers this season, and even they knew who their top competition would be.
: for Kayne. At least he makes for good TV. Plus I thought Laura and Casanova's outfits were far worse.
^^ Absolutely right. Kayne has even had some decent efforts that might have been called safe that the judges disliked. I agree re Casanova and Laura K should have been in the bottom two (Casanova's outfits did not come close to being androgynous or avant-garde, just costumey). I think Casanova got by because he is so well-liked by everyone.
Hopefully, Laura K will be auf'ed next week. But again, the majority of all the episodes this season are boring . The only scandalous "bit of business" the producers seemed able to fake-up was Kayne talking conspiratorially to Ivy in the lunch room about Laura K! And now that Kayne is gone, the Ivy/ Laura K b***h-fest is zzzzzzzz...
I'm mainly interested in seeing the runway segments at the end, but then they don't provide a good look at all the outfits. The editing is so horrendous and schizophrenic.
ita,if kayne had sent her down the runway without a blouse, would it still have lost? i thought casanova's looked like cocktail servers at an oscar party in a cheap casino.
There's something about Kayne's taste level that didn't equal his construction skills.
I suspect you may need to be androgynous to really know how to portray it.
That said, I liked what Emilio did.
I haven't always been impressed by his designs.
^^ True re Kayne, but I still find Kayne loveable, and I thought Laura Kathleen's outfits were worse than Kayne's last night.
One of the more memorable moments in PR episode history has to be during Season 3 when Mychael Knight gave Kayne tips on how to walk the runway (that challenge involved the designers making outfits for themselves and walking the runway in them). They should use that particular challenge again!
Can't believe Casanova wasn't sent home. If the designer doesn't adhere to the challenge, why keep him/her?
Emilio is showing that he is one of the best designers PR ever had. He simply gets it.
I actually thought Althea should have been in the top-3. I thought her designs were both androgynous and avant-garde.
Totally agree with the criticisms of the runway editing. I was like "WTF?????"
Anyone still watching?
All I can say is wow to Casanova's dress for the green challenge. Absolutely gorgeous.
Agreed. I would have had him in the top 3.
anthony ryans reminds me of a huge origami project, a whole bunch of extra fabric widening you. but at least it looks on purpose and finished unlike ivy's low rent prom look. and poor althea's looks like faye dunaway in bonnie and clyde fell in a thresher.
ita that casanova was robbed and i never ever thought i would type that
I want the judges to use hi def video monitors. Althea's mess was much better than Ivy's mess.
Althea's runway result was better solely because of execution. Ivy's design was better; she just couldn't pull it off in the amount of time she had.
I thought that Anthony Ryan's dress would be a fabulous "Red Carpet" look, on the right person.
It would take someone like Angelina Jolie to carry it off, though.
Sorry, I didn't like the DVF inspired "winning" look, at all.
I wasn't crazy about Uli's, A-R's, or Laura's. Casanova wuz robbed.
I liked Uli's the best, I think. And I rather liked Josh's too. Laura Kathleen's was awful, I hated that print, can't believe it won. And I usually like her more feminine stuff.
DVF was so taken with repeating palazzo pajamas over and over, LK was able to ride it all the way to first place w/o anyone taking a good look at it. it had pouches over the shoulder, like fanny packs for your back.
I've still been watching, but mainly for the runway show since most of the rest of the show is fairly boring. Too bad Kayne didn't make it till this challenge since he is more of a ball gown designer (I know his taste level leaves much to be desired, tho' it would have been interesting to see how he would have fared in this challenge).
So much for Emilio's win last week, and his pronouncement this week that bold solid colors rather than prints were the way to go. He seems to have over-thought himself this week and didn't use his time wisely. Everyone who chose prints did fairly well to very well (aside from Althea). I feel sad for Althea since she has made some good outfits but was always called safe and never got feedback from the judges. I think her confidence suffered as a result, and then she got bottom and out for her two opportunities before the judges. Josh is obviously very peeved too at always being called safe. He's had a couple of good enough outfits to have made top 3. The show should make an effort to provide feedback to "safe" contestants.
Uli or Anthony Ryan may ultimately win it all. Uli seems to pull out decent outfits even when she's clueless and having problems. Altho' Uli could have been called "safe" for this challenge instead of Casanova, as Casanova did a great job. Laura's effort was okay, but I too was surprised she won. Maybe DVF was returning the Laura love with her OTT assessment of "palazzo pants." I wasn't surprised they ditched Althea over Ivy since they seem to like Ivy and always underestimated Althea. Kind of interesting how the host sometimes gets up to kiss the auf'ed goodbye, and other times she doesn't. DVF's paltry words of consolation as Althea departed: "Oh, she's so sweet."
Kinda boring all-star season overall, tho' Uli and Anthony Ryan always seem to come up with the goods. I was sorry to see Casanova leave in this episode 7, but it seems for this unconventional challenge he had no clue what to do (not unlike in some of the previous challenges too -- but he is very loveable). I like how in his exit interview he said he hoped to find out what he could learn from his eliminations, but that it would "take a long time."
This all-star season is dragging along. The preview of next week's challenge looks like another . I guess Uli will ultimately win it all. I'm looking forward to seeing Emilio, Anthony Ryan and Uli create collections for the final runway show, so I hope Ivy and Laura Kathleen will be out in the next two episodes, and then Josh.
Uli's design was good; however, it was a little too much like the "flapper" dress she did earlier.
Because of that, I thought that Anthony Ryan deserved the win.
He had a concept, executed with skill, that really transformed the materials he chose.
...I keep forgetting it's on. That's never good. They just are not exciting me at all. Even the old "villains"--Josh is a nonentity, and Ivy seems much less evil without Wretchen goading her (which maybe says something about what a poison influence Gretchen was on everyone.)
ITA, plus the fact Uli's execution was not flawless re the seams down the sheer sides, and the obvious weightiness of the decorations, plus issues with the hem in the back.
I too loved Anthony Ryan's design concept and execution more. I wondered how much some of the "Christmasy-looking elements" on his dress (pointed out repeatedly by one of the guest judges) hurt him in the end.
Josh has definitely receded to the background pretty much and his design flaws have been highlighted, altho' he was called safe a few times where he had done good work that deserved critiques by the judges -- same for Althea whose sweetness got lost in the mix of personalities. Ivy and Laura Kathleen both have unpleasant personalities, and have been lucky to make top 3 on various occasions. I think Uli is a good designer with a friendly personality, but she is very competitive at the same time she gives off the impression she's unsure what she's doing (which I don't think is always the case). I recall her competitiveness during Season 3 when she "stole" Mychael Knight's model/ muse, because said Uli, "I want to win!"
What is particularly "Christmassy" about snowflakes?
That's the only "motif" Anthony Ryan referenced; and it fit nicely into his design.
I agree, and I love Anthony Ryan's outfit a bit more for this challenge, and I thought he might win. But ya know, there are associations that many of us make re "snowflakes" and Christmas decorations, whether snowflakes are actually "Christmassy" or not. I think they are kinda close to what people think of at Christmastime, especially if you grew up in a cold climate -- lots of Christmas cards feature snowflakes, snowmen, and snowy landscapes. AR might have been better served had he removed at least the overlarge snowflake at his model's waist, or just removed all the snowflakes.
I checked out the "Rate the Runway" feature, and those who voted felt Josh's outfit was poorest with 2 stars; Emilio, Casanova, Laura Kathleen, and even Ivy were given 3 stars (I think Ivy's was actually the poorest outfit, but Josh's skimpy hot pants were unforgiveable -- he didn't make wise purchases; he himself should have begged for a fire-sale from other contestants, just as he advised Casanova).
Anthony Ryan's outfit was given 4 stars and Uli's outfit was given five stars on the website's Rate the Runway feature. I think there were perhaps more execution flaws in Uli's design but it was more structured than her flapper dress. Looking at the dress' detail up close on the website reveals rich intricacy with her wings motif -- the detail on AR's dress is rich and intricate as well.
I thought Anthony Ryan's outfit looked like a huge christmas ornament. Pretty and greatly constructed, but very christmasy. But he's clearly been the most consistent of the bunch.
Josh should have been sent home. Those shorts were hideous!!
Emilio has now had two bad weeks. He needs to get his mojo back.
I liked both Uli's and Anthony Ryan's dresses and think they're the frontrunners. I would have sent Josh home for the TOP which was something Wonder Woman would have picked from her closet while drunk on mead and ambrosia. Ivy's dress looked like something a middle-aged woman would wear to a Bar Mitzvah in 1967. Elias' dress was bad but not awful relative to a few of the others and Laura's dress really did make the model look fat.
There's not enough in these episodes.
I was surprised - I thought for sure Ivy was heading home.
im not sure how ivy is hanging on, she hasnt been bitchy this season so no producer can argue she's good tv
