I was at a friend's place last night, and his TV was turned to one of those channels that plays music with a blank screen. The channel was one of pop music from the 1980's and I swear I had not heard this once since the 80's:

Let Me Go - Heaven 17
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCGB6GzGTjo

Another one I really liked hearing:

    Jody Watley - Friends
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCGB6GzGTjo

Any forgotten 80's favourites come to mind that you'd like to share? :D

My musical tastes are totally stuck in the eighties. (When I post in "To Sing For The Day, it's always eighties stuff)
Anything by the Cure, the Clash, or Bow Wow Wow.
Jody Watley, hmm? I was a punk back then, pink hair and all, but I confess to owning the 12" single of "Dead Giveaway"

My coworker caught me chortling along to this Bow Wow Wow song several weeks ago and thought I was quite deranged ("C-30, C-60, C-90 go, off the radio, I get a constant flow! Hit it, pause it, record it, play! Turn it, rewind, and rub it away!")

:respec: I didn't think anyone remembered that Shalimar song!

Heaven 17's The Luxury Gap is such an underrated album :swoon:

Ministry -- "Every Day Is Halloween." I loved that song in the 80s, and it makes me laugh because Ministry sounds so incredibly different now.

I have Ministry's first album, With Sympathy, which Alain Jourgenson would looooove to have scrubbed from existence. Ministry started as a New Wave synth duo! "Every Day is Halloween" is actually a nice bridge between the early work and the sound that made Ministry famous.

If anyone familiar with the bad boy industrial version of Ministry would like to have their mind blown, I present the lead single from the first album: Revenge

(I actually prefer this version of Ministry :shuffle: )

I saw Ministry live, right after With Sympathy was released, and several times after they went industrial.

I remember only 'Girls just wanna have fun' by Cyndi Lauper, but I am sure I will remember many later.

I found an interesting article about 80s singles that never made the Top 40. Some are so shocking! My top five from this article:

The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men (only hit #46)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5aZJBLAu1E

Joan Jett - Bad Reputation (never made the top 100!!)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RAQXg0IdfI

    Eurythmics - I Need A Man
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMBi4ErRXzQ

Deborah Harry - French Kissin In The USA
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vT3-Ol3iaMU

Eurogliders - Heaven Must Be There
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdQH9ULWD5k

    Other good ones mentioned:

New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle
Modern English - I Melt With You

My favourite 80s genre was New Romantics.

Australian 80s music, whilst many may not made it on the world charts, was certainly some of the best music to come out of that decade. There were so many good original bands and Melbourne had a great live music scene.

This is one of the best.

1986 was the best year in Top 40 music. 1987 was the best year for modern rock, now known as alternative music. I have most of the songs on mp3 that made the Billboard top 100 on 28 CDs. Someone online made me copies for free and even paid the shipping.

Here are some of my faves that aren't played at all or not much on the radio:

    Mary's Prayer-Danny Wilson
    Downtown-One 2 Many
    Living In A Box-Living In A Box
    C'est La Vie-Robbie Nevil
    All I Wanted-Kansas
    Be With You-Bangles
    Electric Blue- Icehouse
    Calling America-Electric Light Orchestra
    You Came - Kim Wilde
    Heart Of Mine-Boz Scaggs
    Amanda-Boston
    It's A Sin-Pet Shop Boys
    Valerie-Steve Winwood
    Tender Love-Force MDs
    Crush On You-The Jets

Here are the more popular ones:
    I Can't Wait - Nu Shooz
    A Love Bizarre-Sheila E.
    Manic Monday - Bangles
    Shattered Dreams-Johnny Hates Jazz
(I Just Died) In Your Arms-Cutting Crew
    Something About You-Level 42
Never Gonna Let You Go-Sergio Mendes
    Secret Lovers - Atlantic Starr
Tonight She Comes - The Cars
    Breakout-Swingout Sister
    Love theme 'St. Elmos' Fire'
    Come Go With Me-Expose
Always On My Mind-Pet Shop Boys

    Man, I could go on....

I assume you love the movie Starstruck!

Adding to the list: I really like the song "More to Lose" by Ricky Gervais' band Seona Dancing (he's the singer too).

I remember hearing "Living in Oblivion" by Anything Box on the radio when I was very young, and I still like it and their first two or three albums, although after that, not so much.

Book of Love is another one of my favorites, especially their first two albums.

Obviously I like synth pop! But lots of other stuff from the 80s: coldwave, darkwave, new wave, etc. etc. My taste is kind of obscure but maybe other people here like that stuff.

A lot of songs mentioned are maybe more alternative than pop, so since we're branching out from strictly pop, I thought I'd go in a country direction. But all of these favourites made the top 40 of the pop chart, the number they reached are listed after the song title. :cheer:

Rosanne Cash - Seven Year Ache #22

Restless Heart - I'll Still Be Loving You #33

    Crazy For You - Madonna
Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley

I was surprised to hear some 11-year old kids sing that Rick Astley song. I have no idea how they heard about it. One of them even said, "it's good!"
