He sounds hilarious and like he'd be totally fun to work with. I completely agree with him regarding so-called "white chocolate."

Paul is adorable - there's no other way to put it.

And he is so smart. Taking a linguistics degree at U of T and fluently speaking multiple languages! :)

It is absolutely astonishing how much media attention these two manage to receive. Whoever is doing PR for them is working really hard for their GOLD.

Carol Lane is good at press relations, and Piper is pretty.

They aren't receiving THAT much media attention - you sound like a bit of a drama queen. :drama:

And why shouldn't they receive some media attention, anyway? Paul is one of the best ice dancers in the world and is a Canadian champion and Olympian. And Piper & Paul medalled at last year's Nationals and are likely to do so again this year. :)

What a profoundly odd comment. What effect does it have on you how much media attention an ice dance couple receives?

I was wondering the same thing myself above. We seem to have a couple of posters who like to bash Gilles & Poirier because they think they are overmarked or are being given special privileges by Skate Canada. I haven't seen much evidence of preferential treatment myself. Paul is one of the best ice dancers in Canada and was #1 with Vanessa Crone the year Virtue & Moir were out with injury. Piper isn't quite up to his technical level yet because she doesn't have the Olympic and World experience, but she is working hard to catch up.

What I was pleased to see is that G&P skated two good programs this week and ended up solidly in 2nd place behind V&M to earn a spot to Worlds. :) That probably makes the G&P haters mad. ;)

Anyone can start a new fan thread in the Trash Can at any time! ;)

G/P's Hitchcock-themed free dance at NHK Trophy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSHMDIFL1so

Article by Beverley Smith about Poirier's injury (a fracture dislocation in his right ankle 5+ months ago) and recovery, as well as G/P's programs: http://www.skatecanada.ca/AboutUs/NewsDetails/tabid/2157/sni[2797]/2882/language/en-US/Default.aspx

ETA: Hopefully Paul will start blogging again soon! :)

Love their new FD. Some interesting lifts and spins. Paul's all black outfit really highlights his beautiful lines.

I haven't really paid much attention to these two the past couple years, but their Hitchcock FD has made me a fan.

Yeah, fascinating choreography throughout and it's nice to see her improvement. I have no idea how they're gonna get that choreolift below the time limit, but it's such a fantastic ending.

Christopher Dean is listed on their bio as one of their choreographers - and it certainly looks like Dean. He did the Eleanor Rigby that Paul skated with Vanessa. As Kurt said in his commentary, can't wait to see this after a few more goes. And can't wait to see it live at Nationals.

Choreographer for both their programs are their coaches Carol Lane & Juris Razgulajevs. Dean has choreographed their new exhibition program I believe

I never paid too much attention to this team either, but after seeing their FD at NHK I will from now on. It was a great performance and wonderful program.
