Here's her long program!, .76 from a medal!

And great attack throughout the performance!

How can you not love this girl!? She's such a breath of fresh air in a sometimes stale ;) ladies event! Voids galore: the batshit crazy hair, frantic choreo, and OTT costumes. I love how she picks a theme for each program is 200% committed to it, always!

And aside from the voids, she really brought it at Worlds. Her 3toe-3toe in both programs is sooo good. Great height, distance, flow, and landings. +2, definitely.

So congrats, Alena! :cheer: She's not rolling over to the wonderbabies!

It was a great performance. There was 100% attack energy enthusiam - she nailed almost all of her jumps and the step sequence was one of the best. She skated this program well several times and it was really medal worthy. She will probably get a new LP for next season and I hope it can live up to how good this one was.

She skates as if a bee had stinged her, very weird. But her joy on the ice is very enjoyable to watch ! Thanks for sharing this joy with us :)

    The Queen of Perk! :glamor:

    :cheer:

If only more ladies skated programs like that instead of the usual GFB snoozefests. Although none of them would have as much Perk.

I hope she continues skating this way next season. Don't give in to wonderbabies without a fight Alena!

P.S. The hair was a total void. A poodle in the SP. A cheap German porn actor in the FS. :D

Have courage, show some personality, Ladies!

Alena was awesome here -- I thoroughly enjoyed her! Great jumps and totally entertaining! She and Kostner were my favorites in the freeskate :)

She was AMAZING. I thought she was done earlier, but she was fantastic. I hope she can keep this up..

Personally her's was my favourite of the night - I'm not saying she should have won, but it's just so great to a woman go out there, with her own style, totally voidy and actually go for it. We get so used to seeing hesitant, gentle skating from the ladies that this really was a breath of fresh air. One thing which impresses me most is that Alena has had alot of consistency problems in the last few years, and if there was ever a moment for her to crack, it was here, the biggest moment of her life, skating final group at WCH at home - not only did she not crack, but there was no hesitation in that LP. Must have felt great!

Personally, i WOULD have had it 3rd, simply because I think Caro was a tad lucky with the flip in the SP and I find her overall style a bit... bland. But she was beautiful in the LP and I don't really have any complaints with the result.

I just wish there were more Alena Leonova's!

I liked her skate but I hated her hair this time. She should have kept her hairstyles from Euros for both programs.

^I'm not entirely sure the point of her hair was to "like" it.

Awesome competition for Alena! She seems to be one of the skaters who peak late in the season.
I give her major props for choosing voidier routines and riskier choreography this year, and going all out to do it justice. Not just a Queen of Perk, but a Voidy Queen of Perk!
I also give her and her coach major thumbs up for not rolling over early in the year when TAT critisized Alena's LP and said Alena should change it and stick to the tried and true folky/cheefrul. That took guts and vision, and made for one of the highlights at Worlds.

Brava Alena! Good luck next season! Hope she does interesting programs again and gets a European Championships medal.

I loved that program including costume, music and the giggle voids!! It just :kickass: compared to many of the other bland, 'lyrical' ladiezzzz programs.

I was very torn whether to root for carolina or for her. I look forward to what she comes up next year. Hopefully she can survive among the Russian wonderbabies.

Cheers to Alena! I never really liked her style, but this program was so infectious, inspired and superbly skated. I happen to like Carolina Kostner and I have rooted for her, but no, Alena deserved a bronze medal, much more than Gachinski did in the men's event, IMHO. I would have had Carolina in 4th or 5th -- she made a couple of mistakes, despite not outright falling. Anyways, whose program is going to be more memorable: Alena Leonova's hands down! You just can't deny when someone skates like Alena did ... oh but apparently the judges can with their accursed numbers game.

Call me a fan as well. I love that she puts personality out on the ice, something you very rarely see with the ladies. She is interesting, different, unusual and makes you take notice (whether you like it or not). The energy and performance level is fantastic throughout the whole performance. I absolutely enjoyed it.

I've just realised who Leonova reminds me of - Kristina Czako. Euro, good music, bit voidy, bit different, bit rough around the edges, but exciting - Leonova isn't as powerful or as technically good (Czako's 3t-3t and solo lutz were MONSTERS) but very similar tech content. I loved Czako and now I love Leonova lol.

Thanks for this; interesting to see that the choreo they were working on nearly a year ago pretty much made it to the final LP; I know lots of skaters start out with the moves the choreographer originally gave them, but by the time they get to the worlds the programme often looks much different (and easier)

Thanks so much for posting this. Absolutely loved it. It looks like they had a blast putting that program together. And you can tell the choreographer knows exactly the kind of skater she is working with.

    Who is her choreographer?

Ive seen Svetlana Korol often listed as doing her programmes, though I dont know if thats her in the vid. Whoever that is needs to do more! Interestingly, she's also worked with Camerlengo.

In the first "From Russia with Love" thread, Olga Volozhinskaya was identified as the choreographer. :)

    Julia was a Granny.

Alena was a MAD VOIDY PERKY GRANNY. :dog:

    :D

And yep, Leonova's choreographer was Olga Volozhinskaya.

I pray Morozov can bring out her style further and won't try to change her into a generic, boring lady.

I really like Leonova's screamin' red hair and her electric energy, in the midst of so many safe, polite music choices.

"The Witches of Eastwick" soundtrack makes skaters go mental

Does anyone know what the music is at the very start of her LP? I don't think that bit's actually from Eastwick. Any ideas please?
