It's wonderful to watch his skating on TV (as opposed to a blurry online feed), but to see him skate in person is a real eye opener of a treat :)...truly amazing. It's the speed and the sound of his footwork that gets me.

I agree with everyone. Two gorgeous programs. The step sequence, speed :swoon:unbelievable. The mens event was a disaster but Paddy made my night. I feel like it really might be different for him this year, I'm hoping. Even if you're not a fan I'm sorry but you have to appreciate those programs and the way he skates them or you just don't like skating. Don't tell me he doesn't feel and interpret every note of that music. Masterpieces skated by a master.

Jeff and Patrick  love them both.

I went on a youtube trip down memory lane and watched Patrick's 2008 Canadians skate, after watching that hilarious Jeff & Patrick interview.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d9LSJIzuQU

So interesting to watch this and then the 2013 skate back-to-back.

Congratulations to Patrick on a very good (not great, yet) skate. That was so much better than Thornhill that it could be a different skater.

His footwork is almost beyond belief in terms of its difficulty. Particularly in the footwork sequences, the collaboration with David Wilson seems to be working extremely well.

His ex really shows off the fine work he has done with David Wilson and Kathy Johnson.
    Loved it.

I just watched the FD on TV. He skated really well - footwork as usual absolutely brilliant and he more than deserved to win this competition. Will all the pchiddy "haterz" please now leave him alone.

You know that will never happen as some people get their jolly's and have made it a hobby to put Patrick (and other Canadian skaters) down. However, what they say or think won't make any difference to how he skates and scores ;)

    What details do you want?

The music is Stepping out with my baby ... I think its fred astaire and what can I say. Patrick is a true ice dancer. He moves like a dream, handsome, debonaire Patrick in coat and tails.....

The foot work is lovely . There is one section when he skates down the rink with a lovely warm smile. It makes one feel he is smiling just at you!

    Certainly his best ex ever.
Wilson had Yuna do the same song with patrick and Lambiel among others as supporting cast in one of her shows. But this one is all Patrick!

Maybe Coriana will add some more details? I am still in the post skate canada glow!

I HEAR YOU luckiest1.:D I assume you mean the vid so here it is.
Me 2 eventhough I didn't attend the competition. :) Just feeling sooooo happy for Patrick that he's learning to handle the competition and his life by taking charge and be responsible. This 'kid' has grown.o
luckiest1, I prefer his new Vivaldi to the old one. Patrick said he chose his favourite parts to be put together. Medal ceremony vid for those who didn't watch it.

I am so stoked to hear that he will most likely be at worlds and who knows he may decide to compete another year or two.
Spiky you may get a chance to see him. Invite him on a skating trip to Oz. He says its the place he most wants to visit as he is a surfer.
I am sure he loves Malaysian food too!

Thank you so much for the videos! I CANNOT BELIEVE I didn't go to this competition. Is it January yet? LOL Ottawa here I come!

spiky, I think this new Vivaldi program may eclipse POTO for me (my old favourite). :) :)

And where did you hear that he will most likely be at Worlds, Emdee? That is great news!

Luckiest I think it was in the interviews. He said he would like to consider worlds because of it being after the olys etc. I think he may well do it.
I dont think too many have one 4 worlds in a row.... so he is probably thinking about the record.

He had also mentioned that he wants to be Canadian Champion 8 times or something like that and he would need to stay for a year or two to do that.

I hope he stays but will understand if he doesnt!

Both his new Vivaldi and his Ex eclipse his past programs. I had always loved his Tango short in the past but after seeing him do elegie at worlds it immediately ecclipsed it in my mind.

More than ever you realize that his skating is at another plane when he skates with others on the ice.

The more I see Patricks Free the more I like it.
He has given himself a little bit more set up for some of his jumps I noticed that he did it for the Quad Toe and must go and check on the other jumps. This is a good thing with the killer footwork and body movement on ( almost ice dance) on ice.

We have a long wait to Trophe Bompard and I will be in transit so looking forward to coming home and hearing all the scoop from anyone who goes to it and anyone who watches it.

Today on George Strombo's program, he is doing a show on some Olympians. They will include Patrick and Tessa/Scott.

Pretty sure it was just the brief clip I saw. George mentioned it being 100 days to Sochi and asking what Olympians will take in their suitcases and showed a minute or so clip of various athletes saying, obviously scripted stuff. Patrick said he'd bring vases cause skaters get lots of flowers and then said seriously, tone it down with the flowers and they showed (i think last years Worlds) massive bouquets. That was about it.

What I liked the most about Patrick at this year's Skate Canada is that he never let he mistakes he made on the jumps affect his commitment to the choreo, he was on fire in both programs. Way to go, Patrick!

Now my very humble advice to him is that he should practice the 3A over and over until he feels he can do this jump in his sleep. The 3A in the long programs seems to be his only real weakness.

What happened to British Eurosport? I honestly don't remember ever having heard them commentate on Patrick's skating as ecstatically as they did at SC. lol

Thanks luckiest1 for the link to the Strombo suitcase bit.

I understand what you mean by ‘go for broke’, Emdee. The current rules give more points to a fully rotated jump with fall than a popped jump. It doesn’t make sense to give away points if one can give it a total go and gain some points from the jumps.

VarBar, ProfDeb gave Patrick the same advice. I am sure he is aware of his nemesis. By the way, we got our wish, VarBar. We talked about hoping that Patrick will come up with an LP different to his SP, and we have got the best of Four Seasons. I love the part where he skated backwards with a hop and clicking his feet. Is there a name for it?

This is what I look forward to every time Patrick skates. A big happy smile on his face after the program. Makes my day!:)

Not sure whether this article has been posted. PJ Kwong's interview with Kathy, Slipchuck and Patrick regarding his Olympic lesson and training.

My pics from Patrick's FP and the medal ceremony at Skate Canada: http://skateshutterbug.zenfolio.com/p56733276 He is growing up to be such an attractive man. :)

That will only work if he's practicing it correctly. From what I saw in practice at Skate Canada, his success rate with the 3A is maybe 30%. And sadly, I did not see any evidence to suggest that Kathy Johnson knows how to fix it. I almost fell out of my seat when he landed a very good one in his SP. Let's just hope that his shot at Oly gold doesn't come down to this one jump. :(

Can't he just go have a visit with Artunian or some axel doctor?

Didn't Browning try to help him with it a few years ago? I know it was pointed out on the CBC commentary that Chan needed to fix the technique on his axel or it would never be consistent. I'm sure he's tried with all his coaches.

He seemed to remedy it, or at least improve on it when he was with Krall but now he's just back where he started. It's frustrating to see. I'm sure he knows he has to get it but how?

Finally had time to watch Patrick's new exhibition. I think the program would need a little more acting and smiling from him in some parts of it but there's a lot of brilliant moments in the choreo and Patrick really moves like a dancer. And while he goes for just a couple of jumps and not some of the most difficult ones, I feel he would beat many on the PC mark with all those transitions that he has as well as the quality and complexity of his blade work if he were to present Stepping Out in competition. He was flying out there. To skate such a sophisticated number the way he did at the age of 22...my hat is off to Patrick and his team. :respec: Awesome.

No, Corianna, I don't think I did. But I suspect Johnny had only nice things to say of Patrick's skating this time around.;)

This is my favourite part! I don't know what it's called either, but to me it's just pure joy on ice. :)

Love the pictures shutterbug. I also almost fell off the couch when he landed the triple axle in the short. I think I was screaming "thank God" LOL. Or maybe "holy shit".

I really enjoyed watching that video again and can I just say that I would LURVE to have Mr. Weir do commentary for figure skating on NBC for the men all the time (and dare I suggest perhaps all disciplines?).
