He's not an actor, though...
I see your point...
but I didn't think they were *that* bad. Preferred them to Baldwin actually.
The only surprise for me was the King´s speech winning the best director, I was expecting The Social Network to get that.
No the most entertaining ceremony
if forced to choose, i preferred franco's spicoli impression to anne's pep squad audition
and he actually had a gig lined up, and could recover somewhat quickly.
Yes he was.
And the true best movie of the year was Toy Story 3. There was more emotion in that one scene in the incenerator than The King's Speech and The Social Network combined.
I liked Anne as host; I thought she did a good job. James not so much; poor guy seemed pretty stressed out, lol. I'd be happy if Anne came back in a few years after she's had time to get used to the idea.
Pretty happy with the results; nearly all my favorites won! Go Kings Speech!
I seriously doubt that Franco's and Hathaway's careers will be negatively affected by hosting the oscars.
Well, if Franco needs a place to stay while he looks for work...
Mr. Darcy won!
The ending has to be the cheesiest, hokiest, corniest ending of any Oscar telecast ever! UGH! I had to change the channel. Those kids who were overly-emoting are going to cringe when they look back on this one day. This is the OSCARS! I don't want to see tee-shirts for pity's sake! Give them some sparkles, please, and maybe it wouldn't have been such a trainwreck of an ending.
I don't think either of their careers is "over" because of this night. Franco has done some big films, but he's also big in a lot of quirky smaller films, and he was just nominated for an Oscar for his acting.
Anne's got a list of successful films and she came off likeable enough to me. Their combined pairing didn't work, but her singing was good and she looked nice and seemed personable.
Except that that emotional scene is a blatant rip-off from an earlier movie, The Brave Little Toaster. TS3 loses big points from me for this.
Well-each to their own. I enjoyed Toy Story 3 and had tears..but.....
I enjoyed the awards this year-maybe not so much as past years, but they weren't awful. I REALLY loved the kids at the end singing Rainbow. I'm so happy Mr. Darcy won, and Anne looked fabulous in all her many dresses, particular the shiny blue and the last one. I mean-they're just awards from a bunch of narcissists, so why angst? It was fun.
I think "KS" also is a more up-lifting movie. As good as "SN" is, the central character is an anti-hero.
Well Hathaway is already signed to play "Catwoman" in the next "Batman" film. Franco has multiple movies in the can and several more in the pipeline.
To help cleanse the mind of the past numbing three hours, may I suggest
70th Academy Awards Intro Part One
Easily my favorite of all the years I've watched it .
I actually thought it deserved to *win* best picture, hands down. But I realize I'm in the minority on that.
Word. I'd be pissed if I was Anne. She basically had to carry the whole show.
Yes, she overdid it many times, but only because her co-host was acting like a stoned corpse.
I thought she was very charming and funny with Hugh Jackman a couple years back. She just got stuck with the wrong partner IMO.
I'm extremely cynical and I thought the kids singing was really beautiful.
I agree. It was bad, but they both should recover.
I imagine that this will be the end of the "young, hip Oscars" experiment.
I really thought Social Network was a very, very good movie, and I think the kid was a great actor, but I absolutely hated the character. Maybe you can't win best actor being an ass****. Or maybe you can-movie buffs oblige...
Anne had too many dresses.
Or at least make them realize that young doesn't necessary equal hip.
I'm not a fan of the Oscar voters, but I don't know the character likability matters too much. They've voted for way more unlikable characters than Zuckerberg...Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men, Daniel Plainview, There Will Be Blood, Jake LaMotta from Raging Bull and so on.
No such thing....
they should use those bob hope voice over snippets as host next year
I liked all of Anne's dresses. It was fun to see what she came out in next. The first one and the red one were my faves.
Marissa Castelli weighs in on twitter:
You'd think they'd have given up the idea after that Beyonce trainwreck several years back.
Oddly enough, she originally turned them down when they asked her to host. She only agreed later on because James Franco had gotten on board. When they intereviewed him before the show, he didn't seem too into it. He's been going to school and working on this during the weekends and when he could squeeze in more time. Maybe he took on too much and crashed before the show even started.
