I'm so glad you interviewed Gary Beacom. He's a long time favorite of mine. That photo of him standing on his head (no hands) on the ice is eye popping, too.

Thanks for the article on Kira Ivonova.
It's such a pity that, when she is remembered now, it's for the tragedy which surrounded her; rather than for her skating,

Thanks for this! It was a needed break from Senate scandal and Rob Ford scandals. I was also pleased to find the Gary Beacom piece as he has always been a favourite. You do manage to find the most interesting things. Keep up the good work!

skatesindreams - You're so welcome. I completely agree that it's very sad that Kira's remembered for the tragedy in her life moreso than her skating. I don't think a lot of people really knew about the scope of the hardship she faced in her life and I was completely heartbroken for her researching and writing about her story.

Scrufflet - Glad you enjoyed the Sing Along and are enjoying the blog! I'm trying to go in a different direction than most and have been having an absolute blast writing again. Interviewing Gary was definitely a dream come true.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAH A WILD DODDS APPEARS!

Love all the Dodds boys. Thanks, N_Halifax!

Live, Andrew is really elegant and wonderful to watch. Great extensions and just over-all lovely skating.

Gosh, has it really been that long since the Merinda crash? Wow. Time really does fly.

I love this, from Christina's interview:

"Q: Who are your three favourite figure skaters of all time and why?

A: I love Michelle Kwan because she is a legend. She was able to touch everyone when she skated and it was truly magical. Yuna Kim is amazing because I saw her train every single day leading up to her Olympic win. I saw her struggles and triumphs and it was a great learning experience. Janet Lynn. I love watching figure skating from a long time ago and I feel like it is truly classic. Figure skating has definitely evolved as a sport, but I love watching the timeless Janet Lynn hit beautiful lines and classic moves."

    Christina has very good taste!

1988 Olympic Gold Medallist, 4 time World Champion, 1984 Olympic Silver Medallist, 5 time European Champion, World Professional Champion... the list goes on & on. One thing is for absolute certain. She's one of the most compelling and dramatic skaters to ever have graced the sport. It was my absolute honor to interview the legend herself, Natalia Bestemianova: http://skateguard1.blogspot.ca/2013/12/interview-with-natalia-bestemianova.html

I LOVE that I have your heartfelt support, skatesindreams! That's SO sweet and it means a lot. Trying to blog positively about skating and going in a different direction than most is a challenge, but the support that I'm getting from skating fans and skaters, coaches and choreographer alike constantly reminds me that I'm not alone in my opinions sometimes... haha ;)
