Lots of chomping last night. LOL Great episode! I do wish they were not going on a nearly year long break. That is so puzzling.

Last night's episode didn't start so well for me. I thought we were in for another episode of men comparing penises. But it did pick up when we realized what the 'gang' leaders was protecting. And how vicious his dogs were.

Anyone else think Merle loaded some walkers into the van and unleashed them on the camp? I thought they had alarms set up around the camp.

And shouldn't the sister have been waking up and attacking her older sister? I'm guessing that's next week. :watch:

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the younger sister and hopefully that is next week. Just two more episodes to go.... Not sure about Merle being the one who unleashed the walkers on the camp because after all; as far as he is concerned his brother is there. Attacking the campers means his brother could fall victim as well. Guess we will have to wait and see.

The last what? 10 minutes of Episode 4 were INTENSE! I don't get scared or freaked out by zombies or most fictional monsters, and that scene definitely rattled me.

    WOW.

I am really loving this show. I'm not a zombie/horror movie person by nature but this show is a popular topic in my creative writing class and my boyfriend LOVES horror and zombie movies, so I decided to see what it was about when they aired reruns.

The writing, and in some cases more importantly, the lack of writing, is astounding. I love that it's a horror/zombie/post-apocolyptic show that actually has a lot of character development and depth, and isn't just all zombies all the time.

    Two things.

    1. If I am bitten and killed, none of you has to wait until I reanimate to apologize for whatever. Just shoot me.

    2. If I am bitten and live, you may also shoot me. I don't want to mutate into something that wants to eat you. I've been a vegetarian for too long to become a cannibal in the afterlife. ;)

I hope one of the alpha males buys it soon. Because I'm tired of the testosterone-fueled bickering. Oh, and wifey saying she has to support hubby because he's her hubby? What is this, 1950?

anyway. Still love the show. The episode was good, but needed more zombies. :)

I missed the first episode. How did most of the earth's population become zombified?

I think I remember reading an interview with Robert Kirkman (the writer of the comic and TV series) saying that he doesn't plan to go into detail about how the why and how of how the zombie apocalypse occurred, and the characters might find out a few things but they'll never find out everything about it.

I follow the comic series, and I have a feeling that Merle (who wasn't in the comic)
will not return in this season and won't appear until later in Season 2
    and that Merle
will be made into "The Governor", a major villain in the comics.

As a fan of the comic, I love the TV series just as much, and they actually added some stuff that's not in the comics so I encourage people to read the original because it really seems like Kirkman is taking this opportunity to tweak/tighten some of the storytelling and I think he's planning to merge the two storylines down the road.

I don't recall, but somehow I think it'll be explained down the line (but isn't there only one more episode this season?).

I agree about this testosterone thing, although it doesn't help that they just introduced another male character. I thought that abused wife was going to talk some smack when beating her DH's (Dead Hubby's) head.

I want to see more scary moments in this show.

The good thing is that they plan to introduce Michonne (IMO the most kick-ass character in the series) early in Season 2, so just try to bear with the alpha-male d*ck-waving contest for now

I hope Kirkman and some of the original comics writers still have input.

The problem, to me, is there's too much character development at the moment, and that's not why I watch zombie movies. The first episode and the fourth episode have been the best so far at combing characterization and action, and I hope to see more of that.

    And more zombies.

See, lack of character development is more or less why I don't watch most zombie movies.

I do agree a little more action wouldn't hurt though.

Dammit! I wanted to hate the guy who had an affair with Rick's wife.

Damn you, non-black and white (morally) characters. *shakes fist*

I found the finale to be very lame and cliche to what was a really great opening. It was a plot driven, not character driven, storyline, with a climax we've seen in every end of the world and action adventure movie/tv series ever made.

Place with everyone inside is rigged to explore and just minutes and in several cases, seconds, before it explodes, they all escape, with the exception of one or two valiant people that are required to die, and then they all watch the explosion happen and then drive away as the place burns.

I'm worried this is the direction they intend to go with all of Season 2, not just one or two episodes. I thought the Season deserved a much more innovative and interesting storyline than THAT.

I agree. This episode should have been a nail biter, instead it was pretty flat.

It started off so well! Now I'm back to hating what's his name. Why do none of the names of these characters stick with me? That can't be good.

The story of what went on in the lab as the apocalypse was unfolding was interesting. I wish we could've seen some footage or transmissions from other labs. And the brain scan I thought was very well done. More stuff like that.

    And more zombies.

    I still enjoyed the series.

I do agree, the stuff in the beginning and middle of the episode was very interesting, I loved the lab scenes in particular.

I wish we were getting some flashbacks to what their lives were like as this was first unfolding, when it was just a problem, not the end of humanity.

I do like that we were told that this was worldwide and not just confined to Atlanta or the U.S.A.

Just my guess, but I think this is why they fired the writing staff. The last two episodes reeked of sci-fi B-movie cliche.

Monochrome green computer terminal with font nobody uses but the movies? Check.
Semi-sentient voice activated central computer? Check.
Whole place is rigged to explode, complete with countdown timer? Check.
Cursory knowledge of science that places the adrenal glands in the brain and has people shooting bullets into MRI/PET scanning machines? Check.

This was the most they've ever tried to explain the apocalypse ever, Kirkman deliberately tries to avoid the how/why of everything...partly in due to the whole impossibility of the situation. As for the CDC,
It never happened in the comic.

It's hard to keep track of characters in the comic as well. Some characters have the same name (Kirkman's rationale is that in some names are common enough that they're bound to come across someone with the same name). Further adding to the confusion is the constant turnover of the cast - as of right now, only a few of the original Atlanta survivors are still alive - and most of them have changed physically and/or psychologically for the worse.

As for the TV series, I think other things are happening as well - I'm speculating some actors have contracts for x amount of episodes, and that's extending the lifespan of their characters.

    -----Shane-----(Rick's partner)
is supposed to be long dead. I'm surprised at how long they have lasted - there even was a time
    back in camp
that was almost exactly like the scene where they die.
The scene where Shane barricades Rick's room
    never happened.

    -----Lori----
is being portrayed in a much, much, better light in the series than how they were in the comic.

    -----Jacqui----
    was never in the comic.
She lasted surprisingly long for a redshirt.

I think Jenner told Rick about his wife and Shane. That would make for an interesting 2nd season. :watch:

I haven't watched the show at all but just finished reading Compendium 1 of the comic (issues 1-48). All I can say is WOW. Interesting to see the places where the show fills out or just departs from the comic, I wonder if it's on Hulu?

Big Spoilers (probably things that won't even happen in S2 of the show) for those who've only watched the show:
I'm not sorry that Lori died, but I was gutted about everyone else at the end there. Tyreese...Billy and Herschel...even Axel. We don't know for sure about Andrea, Dale and the rest of the RV folks, and Michonne seems to have a zillion lives. It was a little frustrating that the Governor's people couldn't see through his tyranny and obvious megalomania before that girl finally snapped after killing the baby. That guy was FCUKED UP.

Still wrecked that Tyreese and Michonne's plan didn't pan out well
