So far this season, what did you find to be the single most shocking thing?
Even though I'm THRILLED about it and for him, Ryan Bradley, National Champion was the huge shock for me!
Alissa skating 2 clean competitions in a row
Ohhhhh yeah I should of thought of that lol and her GPF Gold
This season as a whole had been full of shocking moments, so I don't think I could pick just one! The nominees are great though, but Alissa skating 2 clean competitions in a row would be a nice addition to the list!
Abbott off the World team
Although really, the whole US Men's World team - no Abbott, Rippon, Mahbanoozadeh OR Mroz - is pretty shocking.
That's definitley the most surprising. Nearly everyone believed that this year's title and second place would be between Rippon and Abbott, with Armin, Bradley and Mroz fighting for bronze.
The results are kind of bittersweet. It's awesome Bradley, Dornbush, and Miner did so well, especially Ryan, but it's disappointing to see several favorites not even crack the top three.
I agree with the U.S. men's world team. Totally unexpected medalists at Nats.
Scoring for Patrick Chan's falls (or lack thereof)
Patrick Chan's 3 quads in nationals
Mao Asada couldn't land jumps and kept falling.
How about an option for "all of the above"?
Pretty much what I think too!
Caroline Zhang unveiling her brand-new, textbook triple flip!
Sarah's gold for sure. What a wonderful surprise. Great skating moment.
That was the biggest surprise for me.
Abbott off the World team for me
but Ryan's win was a shock too.. but I am not complaining <3
Results never shock me (unless really crazy), because ice is slippery.
Music chocies do shock me.
I don't know what shocks me more - Flatt switching music or EOE, or seeing the actual step sequence.
"Sarah Myer's European Champion Gold"
Yeah that was a suprise, a skater no one had ever heard of with a name that sounded exactly like another well known skater.
It must be awkward for poor Sarah Meier, people are going to be congratulating her for this Myer girl's win and she has to correct them.
No Abbot, Mroz or Nagasu in the World team is a very big surprise to me.
Czisny's gold at GPF, medals at US nationals, Meier's gold at euros and Chan's quads (and his FS at nats .)
US men team for world, withouth both Abbott and Rippon.
This really surprised me.
Sarah winning Europeans.
^Yup. Still over it.
That did it for me too. The falls in the early part of the season didn't shock me at all, but the fact that he did those 3 quads flawlessly did. I'm glad he didn't give up on them in spite of the falls earlier on and he stuck to his guns.
I am more shocked with Chan's quads to be honest. Bradley is a great skater, so is Meier and so is Czisny. Their respective wins have IMHO been a long time coming.
Absolutely Sarah's gold for me !!
I think that she is over and will never win any competition again.
But She did it dramatically and made me cry.
Good job, Sarah.
What a woman !! What a skater !!
Voted for Sarah's europeans win but if it was an option I would have gone for Abbott, Rippon and Nagasu NOT going to Worlds. Now that's shocking
All in all a pretty memorable weekend of skating wouldn't you say??
Now - what is the story with Meier? I heard that Europeans was her last competition. Does that mean she's not even going to Tokyo? If I were her, I would give Worlds one more shot.
I voted for "Other" -- Jeremy Abbott's failure to make the Nationals podium and make Worlds team.
I voted for Miner's bronze at US Nationals, to me at least the other options were at least plausible. Based on his GPs and even practices I would not have picked Miner to be on the World Team especially over Abbott or Rippon. Congrats to him though.
Pity that this ballot divides votes for US men's podium as the most shocking event ... that Bradley, Dornbush or Miner medaled was not shocking; that all three medaled was shocking (IMO)
I'm shocked so many have answered Sarah's gold. Who exactly outskated her? She was the only top competitor there to skate a clean/relatively clean competition with 2 solid programs. Her competition isn't the picture of consistency either. European ladies is pretty much wide open every year. I guess I can understand the shock that she showed up in the shape that she did and no one really knew what to expect from her given the time away from competition and her injuries, but girlfriend has been a top 6-8 staple in the world for a good number of years and I knew she was capable of winning Europeans, as a number of ladies in Europe are. I'm so proud of her!
^ yes but last year she didnt skate well and her finish at Wolrds was telling a lot. Plus she got all season out being injured. Who thought she would even medal? She was not a factor in every Euros, neither has she won again .Her expression in kiss n cry is priceless and very touching.
ITA. That was
Huge surprise for me, but I was soooo happy for her!
Not really a moment, but all the triple-triples attempted at Russian Nationals.
forget the quads - clean 3As from both Sawyer AND Chan at Canadian Nats
Yes. She feels that winning Europeans is the perfect ending for her competitive career. I don't recall her exact words, but that's the gist of it.
Even more because I read this article before the competition.
