The Michelle Kwan Forum has been an ongoing target of hacking attacks for some time. As a result, for the second time in a month, MKF is down; it's been down for three days as of this writing.

Some fixes done by one of the Adminstrators the last time brought MKF back, seemingly to normal. But now it's down again.

Trying to get onto MKF will result in this error message:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare fi() (previously declared in /home/mkf/public_html/forum/forum.php(1) : eval()'d code(2) : eval()'d code(1) : eval()'d code:1) in /home/mkf/public_html/forum/global.php(1) : eval()'d code(2) : eval()'d code(1) : eval()'d code on line 1

This is very similar to the error message resulting from the previous hacking attack.

Prior to this, starting around September 2012, a spate of spammers registered on MKF; whether this was related to the later hacking, I don't know.

For this to be happening now is particularly unfortunate, because this is the time of year that Michelle always posts her annual Holiday message on MKF. I just hope that those with the power to do so can bring MKF back before that time.

Why anyone would make such concerted and repeated attacks against a figure skater's forum, I have no idea. It's not like the hackers will gain access to the U.S. nuclear missile launch codes or something.

I can't help but wonder if FSU, being a vBulletin forum like MKF, might be vulnerable to the same kind of attacks.

It's a shame. Unfortunately, hackers don't discriminate when it comes to spreading their venom.

Is there anyone here who could let Michelle know about this situation? I'd do so, except I have no way of communicating with her.

I'm sure she is on it. It's probably her top priority now, even before her diplomacy work, her FOX sports job and helping her husband campaign for governor of Rhode Island. She's probably on her laptop now as we speak.

I wonder whose top priority it will be if FSU goes down for the same reason.

No doubt SHARPIE (who happens to own this board) and more importantly those who are paid to administer it and keep it running.

Are you seriously trying to say Michelle Kwan has the same responsibility regarding MKF?

That would be Michelle Kwan's responsibility too. She's also hard at work on the case of the 40 million credit cards hacked at Target.

Thanks for posting this here, Rick. I am samiler on FSU and teach23 on MKF. This hacking is quite upsetting. Perhaps someone could reach her via her Twitter account.

As some of you may, or may not realize, Michelle is a member of MKF.
I'm sure that she would want to know about this.

There are thousands of posters on MKF (although active posters is very low). Should they all be notified too? I'm a member there. Is it my responsibility to fix it too? Leave her alone. She's busy enough as it is. The admins can handle it. The board has been extremely quiet lately anyway and most of her fans can follow her on Twitter until the board situation is resolved. So much drama.

I think in this case, you may be right. I know I haven't visited MKF for awhile, but I'm still a member there. My username was/is IceSkate98 over there. I remember when I joined in 2003 that Michelle posted during Christmas and every Christmas since then. She may already realize it if she's been by there. I assume Heather would and could contact Michelle regarding what has happened.

Thanks Rick. I was wondering why I could not access MKF lately. I am sure that the mods are aware of the problem and
hopefully it will be fixed soon. Merry Christmas to you!

Thanks, Rick! I haven't visited either forum lately because I've been busy. I don't have Grace's phone number anymore... but I'm sure she and Heather know the website is down. It is their baby after all!

Thanks to all with the info. I wondered what happened. Although I haven't posted anything there for a while, I read MKF daily. Hope it's back up soon.

I just wanted to warn anyone that tries the link to MKF. It is still definitely hacked into at this time. At least it was about a couple of hours ago. When I tried the link, it redirected me to another site and tried to open up the flash player plugin in Internet Explorer. I was redirected to a type of porn site. The smartscreen filter in IE prevented any malware from taking over my laptop. It tried to redirect me back to my homepage, but I was having a problem getting off the site. I right-clicked on the task bar to open up the task manager, and after that, I was able to "end" the site from running and exit out of Internet Explorer. I also did two different security scans to make sure there was no malware on my laptop.

I just wanted to give warning about trying to go to MKF for now. If you should try and you end up on the other site, be sure to open up the task manager to exit out Internet Explorer. Don't just try to close IE using the red X because you could possibly end up with malware or another type of virus by doing so.

I just wanted to say that I got onto the Michelle Kwan Forum tonight. I went through the Activity Stream and got on. I have tried the Activity Stream every night and got some crazy stuff and could not get on. Tonight it worked. You may want to give it a try.

Good to know. I don't post there anymore, but I do always updated my blog thread whenever I post something new and I get a decent amount of traffic from that site. Before I joined FSU and GSF, MKF was the only place I ever posted. I miss it sometimes but there's enough Kween love here for me to feel at home. :)

When I tried to get on the MKF, I just got a plain white screen on both my home computer (Firefox) and my office one (IE). I can't even find an activity stream for me to click on.

Sad to say I was able to get in through the Activity Stream (found on yahoo) a couple of hours ago. I just tried it now and get a page not found plus a warning from avast antivirus of threat detected.

Looks like it is down again.

The issue is that a virus has infected MKF, resulting in the site periodically going down for a few days at a time. The administrators are currently addressing the situation with temporary fixes to keep MKF up, and ultimately will be working to eradicate the virus permanently. If there's any bright side to this, it's that the virus cannot infect the computers of people who go onto MKF.

I can't help but wonder if the virus is one that could infect other vBulletin forums as well.

Glad to see it back again. I tried to visit a couple of days ago and it didn't work. I hope the admins can eventually eliminate the virus. I suppose any website can be hacked.

Wasn't there some virus that effected all the Ezboards some years ago? Made a selective deletion of numerous postings, resulting in anywhere from 1/4 or more of all postings as being gone and unretrievable? Turned Figure Skating Galaxy, for those who remembered it, into a ghostboard with no posts at all! Maybe it was all do to......USSOVA!
