"Lightness, spirituality, tranquility. Skating rules Maria Sotskova"

Russian Maria Sotskova confidently won his first start of the season-Ondrej Nepela Memorial in Bratislava, ahead, including Yulia Lipnitskaya. That, however, is not a sensation, because at the last Russian Championships Olympic team tournament winner Maria already complemented. And not only her-behind then left and personal Olympic champion Adelina Sotnikova, and ex-world champion Elizaveta Tuktamisheva.

With Sotnikova the 16-year-old Sotskova now trains in one group as in the off-season, she has moved on from his first coach Svetlana Panova to Elena Buyanova. About the benefits of daily "sparring" with Olympic champion, new programs and more Maria told in an interview to "Soviet sport".

"The goal to beat someone in Bratislava"

-Not quite triumphantly purely to fulfill both programs, but for the beginning of the season as a whole, nice-evaluates his performance in Bratislava Sotskova. -In long program, I think, has done all I can at the moment. In the short program was the blot on the cascade Lutz-toe loop, displeased.

-Blot excitement crept?

-No, I can't say I'm worried. It just happened.

Among the participants were strong contenders — the same Julia Lipnitskaya. As the thrill of that beat Olympic champion?

-General purpose someone beat I was not here. The main thing was to deal with their rental. I do everything that I can. And the place is already partitioned judge. In general, before the start of I try not to think about the rival.

-According to the broadcast it seemed that the situation was like in the competition in training — empty stands.

In the long program the audience was, became more cheerful, but on a short - yes, the empty stands. The feeling that it is not for anyone to ride. This, of course, difficult.

-As adjusted when empty bleachers - imagine that they are full?

- You can do so, but you can just disconnect from it all, think about what you need to do their job and do not pay any attention to that. You should be able to ignore the situation.

-During rolling are disconnected from everything and do everything on the machine — or think about the elements?

I think, of course. Before the performance many times rolled in my head the program, and during rolling before jumping think and mentally perform how to execute them.

"I heard the music of Alfred Schnittke to short program and realized that it would be difficult to"

-Your programs this season to the music of Alfred Schnittke with serious and complex choreography. Feel comfortable in them?

-Short program, of course, for me, quite tricky. There are more broken movements, music is much faster. Its me ride harder. And in the free image is very close to me. Lightness, spirituality, tranquility. Here just need to enjoy the ride.

-Last year you were Juliet — that is meaningful enough to have played a role. Now, when the ride, represent in your head the idea of the program — or simply perform choreographic movement to music?

-The idea is there in the short program. I'm trying to get out of the shell, liberate yourself, it gives me a hard time. In the long program of the image itself is not. I was there trying to live music, to transmit the movements of every note, every accent.

-Music by Schnittke is considered difficult to understand. Doubts, when it was offered, was?

-When I heard the music for the short program, I realized that it would be difficult. usic, one might say, nervous, twitching, there are many accents. And I felt the arbitrary right away. This is my music.

-Enjoyed working with Peter Tchernyshev? This was your first experience staging programs with it.

-It was very interesting, of course, loved it. From his lessons of choreography I had made for myself a lot. Very interesting specialist.

"It's time to show the adult skating"

-Visually seemed that you for this summer have matured and grown up. Jump did not become harder?

-This summer in growth I, actually, not added. My body compared to last season has not changed. Last summer, yes — has grown very strongly. So now there are no changes in technology. And here's a new atmosphere, a new trainer is all there is. And I think that these changes I only benefited. It wasn't hard, I haven't experienced any difficulties-all new only helped.

-Work with a new coach in the preparatory period, something different from what it was before?

-No, in principle, all was almost the same. Feature was that Elena Germanovna people new to me — and I for her new student. She noticed my flaws, and we tried to fix them.

-For example?

She said that I need to add in components, and I'm with her, of course, agree. Season for me serious, I switched from juniors to adult skating, and I've got to show it. And adult choreography, and a good glide.

- That was the main scope of work in the offseason?

Yes, when I switched to Elena Germanovna, elements I don't tinker, jumping remained the same. Mainly focused on the slide. Fruitfully worked with me Maxim Zavozin — slid with him every day. And very much engaged in the choreography with Irina Anvarovna Tagaeva. Practiced literally every gesture program.

Programs are now the final version?

-No, I think this is not the limit of my ability. Will try skate them even better.

-How to work on the same ice with Adelina Sotnikova?

-Very cool. Adelina have adult, riding widespread. I tried to reach for it all the time. Anyway good when on the ice are adult athletes, rather than small. We ride in a group also Adian Pitkeev and Alexander Samarin. Including due to this I added in the riding speed. And in general, it helps

-With Adelinoj, judging by the "Instagramu" you especially made friends.

-Yes. In principle, we communicated well before, but now I see every day, so, of course, became friends.

-Goal of the season maximum — get on the European and World Championships?

-For the sake of this all summer preparing. Now, of course, other objectives — to perform well at the stages of the Grand Prix, on reaching the final of the Grand Prix. But in the Championship of Russia, of course, want to show high level of riding and get into the top three. Even so I say, one of the two strongest skaters.

Successful start to the season — a sign that this is real?

-Of course. They do all the same elements. I need to catch up with the leaders as skating, getting high marks for components. In that nothing is impossible.

~Andrey Simonenko

I would like to come to my first adult stage of the Grand Prix in France, well prepared. I want to appear there in good shape and show a high level. Still a lot of work in preparation for the tournament, but I like how it all goes.

I also make a statement in Perm at the Cup of Russia, where I want to re-check both the program and make sure that I'm a hundred percent ready for the Trophée de France.

Maria Sotskova: "Reaching the final - a victory for each athlete"

November 27, 2016

Maria Sotskova won a bronze medal in the Japanese Grand Prix and came out in the series finale. After the competition the athlete told the correspondent Tatiana Flade, why not nervous before the start, what to do if it does not work on the training, and explain why you should learn to cook.

- The short program I was very pleased - the beginning of Masha. - In any could skate better. But I liked it, in principle, as I made in Japan. Yesterday many times revised its program. This is a rare case where I really liked. It's strange.

-- Why strange?

- Because usually, when I look at their performances, then notice the flaws, what you need to still work. I rarely like something. But I think this is a good thing, because when all is pleasant, the athlete stopped in development. But now it is not the case.

I have not talked to the coach. But I hope she will praise me too, because I think that has completed the task. The place is occupied, not very happy, but happy that selected for the final.

- How are you feeling at the Grand Prix in Japan? In Paris, you told me that was very nervous before going on the ice.

- In this time not particularly nervous. A little excitement was present, but in general was calm because I love Japan, the Japanese audience. They are always well maintained. I still have fond memories from 2013, when I played in the junior final. I sincerely hoped that I could repeat today, but not quite work out.

- Nevertheless, you have got to the final of the Grand Prix, though at first did not know about it.

- Yes, when I was sitting in the "Kiss End Region» Elena Germanovna (Buyanova - approx .), She told me: "Congratulations on reaching the final." I thought that it was unlikely I would go to Marseilles, because it is not always the second and third place in the Grand Prix enough for the final. Until recently, she was not sure that we select. Upset, even cried a little. But when at a press conference, you asked, then I make sure that all is well.

- You set itself the task to reach the final?

- Since the beginning of the season I outlines the specific goals, which was. But even if not selected for the final, upset, of course, but life did not end there - be prepared for the championship of Russia. And since I came to Marseille, very pleased. I went to the goal. It was difficult, as always, but in the end I still achieved what I wanted. This gives me confidence.

- What kind of problem is posed for the upcoming finale?

- Just quietly speak for themselves, for fun. In France, I was very scared because it was my first adult Grand Prix. There was worried, but not much, there was a desire to try to get into the finals. And in the final you just have to give everything to the maximum and get a return.

- What does it mean for you - for the fourth time to participate in the finals?

- Oh, nothing ... It means that I'm ready to compete with world-class skater. Reaching the final - a victory for each athlete. It will compete with six of the best and most deserving.

- Among them are four Russians.

- Yes, it will be a mini championship of Russia.

- Anya Pogorilaya said the same words.

- Well, yes, because in the final ride the main contenders. There will be difficult.

- At the competition in Japan in any program you saw nedokruty jumping. How do you comment this?

- I do not want to comment. At Lutz, I felt, and the rest - I do not know. I agree with everything.

- How did you prepare, worked after the stage in Paris?

- I came home. The next day, I went to the gym. It was a little hard. The body is tired, because that lay out, and covered the devastation. But I knew that only a week, I need to collect myself and set up well.

In fact, at the juniors I had the same schedule: the first stage, and then through the second week. Then I felt completely devastated before the second Grand Prix. It does not have the strength, and I'm on the "moral standing" was pulling the program. But this year, came the second phase fresh. As if he was the first, as if he was not tired.

Rather, do not worry, that was in itself, felt the body. There was some excitement, but like what I could overcome. Rather, it is not plucked six-minute warm-up, because in Paris I was warming up very badly, made nervous coaches. Of course, this is also in the negative matter. There is also warming up well, and because Germanovna Elena was calm.

- When the warm-up that something does not work, it is difficult then to switch to the start?

- For me, the warm-up does not mean anything, because from childhood I always tear off the workout. If I pick a warm-up, then everything will be fine. If all is well in the warm-up, then there is reason to think, maybe something goes wrong. For me, a six-minute warm-up - it is to go out and feel the ice. I do not get hung up on something such. If you tear off on the training element, then I do not think it will be so at the time of rental.

In Sapporo, the glory of God, and the warm-up was a success, and rentals.

- I liked the atmosphere of the competition?

-- Highly. I love Japan and the Japanese.

- Why?

- Because, I think, is nowhere supported by skaters in Japan. Many Russian flags, posters ... People do get sick, experience. All these gifts are so nice to then disassemble. I love this atmosphere, it is very good.

- - What do you get?

- All gifts ... pink. Rick, you know her, last season she made me bears in my costume, this time gave another bear in a pink dress. Toys, letters, all sorts of things - it's very nice.

- What will you do with them?

- Trying to pack in a suitcase. So far, to no avail. It may have to buy a new suitcase.

- I managed to walk around the city?

- On the first evening we went for a walk - Anya, I'm Nathan (Chen - approx .) ... Wander, looked into the shops. Yesterday, too, after the competition went again. But it was too late - the mall was closed, only got to the grocery store. I ordered my mother to buy gels. Well, they were there.

- Japanese cuisine like?

-- Do not really like. Sushi is clearly not mine. Rolls has only recently become trying. There are mainly European cuisine preferred. Just in case. My body's not used to Japanese food, and it is necessary to be cautious before the start. Now, when it was over, maybe I will try, but no particular desire. After the competition, food not really climb.

-- Your favorite dish?

- In the mood. I love salads. I eat them in large quantities.

- Yourself cook?

- No, I do not cook. There's no time nor talent. I tried something to cook, but Charlotte turned disgusting. Rubber! But "cooking" it is necessary to do something, to learn, and that in fact married and do not take.

Maria needs more fans! Seeing her skate live and meeting her a little made the difference. She is lovely and very polite, a bit shy maybe, but somehow the most approachable of all the young female Russian skaters.
Aw, what a nice post from you! :)

I think little by little if Maria continues to skate the way she has been, the fans will come. Plus, skating well will help her cut through the depth of Russian ladies within her own country. Maria is a lovely young lady and I wish her the best @ the GPF and beyond.

I enjoyed her performances considerably more at NHk than TdF. In particular I found the LP much better performed at NHK...she's giving off a bit of a Volchkova vibe: tall, elegant, a little slow. :) Looking forward to seeing her continue to develop.

Press from yesterday:

Maria Sotskova "upset by low scores, but does not intend to lose heart"

Russian figure skater Maria Sotskova commented on his performance in the short program at the Grand Prix finals (6th place).

"I am pleased with your rental, and the coaches noted that today I skated with good speed, and the program looked decent. I give a low score, of course, upset, but does not intend to lose heart - tomorrow hire any program.

I do not care what it is final - the junior or an adult. My task is to enjoy skiing, and give it to the audience. With this attitude I came here and went - not to worry, skate clean, to fight for each element while riding nicely "- Sotskova said.

I thought she skated with good speed yesterday as well so glad to hear it from her coaches :D I hope she slays today and can get a SB in the free :cheer2:

Not surprised on her podium finish--I had her as a dark horse candidate to win a medal at Russian Nationals but she seemed to fly below everyone else's radar. Maybe her skating is a bit too low-key and understated for some, but I like the quiet elegance and sense of control vs the flapping and sloppiness of a Radionova. Maria was my favorite Russian junior when she won the JGPF 3 years ago, but going forward, she does need to "find herself" with canny music selection and good choreography, especially choices for free skate programs.

You can see from the marks on the ice that the toe after her lutz and the salchow at the end of her sequence were both UR, and yet the protocols tell a different story. She was also overscored on PCS, significantly. I didn't realise Buyanova had so much political weight in Russia. Happy to see Sotskova make the team ahead of Radionova however, but the scores and placement (ahead of Pogorilaya) have done her or Anna no favours. IMO
