I watched "Legend": a film about the Kray twins - London's most infamous and most glamorous gangsters who controlled London in the 60's. Having lived in London for the past 13 years, I know quite a lot about this and the film was terrible and hugely inaccurate.

The only good thing about it was Tom Hardy's acting, which was very decent and he looked a lot like the real Kray brothers. I don't understand why they would make this film into some kind of bizarre love story between Reggie and his wife Frances, which had too many factual errors to type out. The biggest influence in the Krays' life - their mother Violet- didn't even feature at all. They made Ronnie into an open homosexual, who brags about this, which is a very odd directorial liberty. The dynamic between the brothers is also completely erroneous. This film is entirely fiction whereas the true story is by far more interesting. All in all, a very poor effort.

The 1990 film "The Krays" ( http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0099951/ ) was much closer to the truth.

He Named Me Malala...maybe one of my favourite documentaries ever. It has such a light feel to it, especially considering it's about a Pakistani girl who champions the right for other girls to get an education...and then is shot in the head by the Taliban for voicing such an opinion. I give a lot of credit to the director, Davis Guggenheim. He handles things so effectively and effortlessly both at the same time. And of course, having a subject like Malala, it's hard to not to have a great film, she is very charming, as is all of her family members. I really enjoyed the animation they used, simple but beautiful as well. I see that Guggenheim also directed An Inconvenient Truth and Waiting for "Superman". But this is definitely the best of the three.

I guess I'm in the minority. I thought the trailer looked horrible and determined immediately not to see it. What about the trailer made people interested in the movie?
From comments on Reddit and FB, a lot of other people thought the same thing I did - I thought it was going to be a caper movie with some of the off kilter humor the Coen Bros are/were known for. The trailer pretty much had the best parts of the movie, so you'd probably hate the full thing :p

New movies coming out this weekend are below. Whose idea was it to release a Rebel Wilson comedy the same weekend that people get the sequel to Zoolander...after waiting 15 years? (Idiots...) Other than the movies I want to see (in bold print), I was most impressed by Aditya Roy Kapoor, who is starring in "Fitoor", an Indian version of Dickens' "Great Expectations". Check out the photo link below the movie trailer. :swoon: And lastly, I enjoy a horror movie when it has a good story. But the last three movies listed here all look horrible. Or just...WEIRD. If anybody watches the trailer for "Nina Forever", let me know what you think. Just wacky...or a horror art film?

I know you aren't interested in it, Peter, but even releasing How To Be Single the same weekend as Deadpool is incredibly stupid. Fans have been waiting almost as long for Deadpool as for the Zoolander sequel. It is a weirdly stacked weekend for February.

Unless of course that was the studios goal. Bury the movie behind a much anticipated sequel and a much anticipated comic book movie. How To Be Single doesn't have a score on Rotten Tomatoes yet where the other two do. Two days from release, that isn't exactly promising.

watched the recent cartoon about Snoopy:D
Funny kiddy stuff
Huge bonus point for War & Peace:ROFLMAO: How he managed to read it at 6 yo & write a essay on it! Wow bravo Charlie Brown. Me & my friends who work with me @ the library were impressed:40beers:

Zoolander trailer & Cucumber in it almost made me:yikes:

He was wonderful in Bright Star , which came out a couple of years ago- one of my favourite movies. If you like costume dramas, (or Romantic poets) I highly recommend it.
this movie is awsome. It was sitting in my USB for so long & then I finally decided to check it out & absolutely fell in love!

Kate Winslet Joins Star-Studded Cast Of Will Smith's 'Collateral Beauty,' To Help Battle 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'

So if you're not into the Star Wars spin-off, on December 16th you could instead go and see the drama Collateral Beauty, which stars not only Kate Winslet and Will Smith, but Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, Edward Norton, Michael Peña and Naomie Harris. It will be directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada) and written by Allan Loeb (21 and Things We Lost In The Fire).

I'm game for a double feature! :cheer2:

Deadpool has been out in Asia for a week already and I saw it last night. I'm not super into R-rated movies (depending on what it's R-rated for) so I wasn't sure how I'd like it, but I thought it was pretty good. I was more uncomfortable watching Kingsman if that's any education. Ryan Reynolds is perfect in the role and the constant winks and nods to other franchises and movies had me cracking up.
I'm pretty sure they were fighting on one of the destroyed SHIELD helicarriers at the end...now I gotta find out where the bad guys got it and who they were working for. They actually tie more into the X-Men universe more but there's lots of Marvel references. Actually felt like the first real X-Men/Marvel crossover.

Felt in a quizzy mood this morning. Maybe a bad idea as...

Top Grossing Movies Of The 50s

...I only guessed one out of ten!!! :wuzrobbed But the quiz title is kinda misleading as the ten movies are all from 1950 (well, maybe one from 1951...)

But I'm going to be nice and give some clues:

1. Brought to you by Walt & Company
2. Think Indy. (As in Mr. Jones)
3. I'm going to have to give back my membership card for not getting this one!
4. Is this an open carry state?
5. "I Do" hope you get this one!
6. Not THAT close!!
7. SO YOUNG LOOKING!!!
8. Not on this road...or that street, but on...
9. Sounds like a lot of fighting, you two goofballs!
10. A navy paradise that's all your own.

Went to see Deadpool today and I was not impressed. All the talking to the camera, the dirty jokes, the slow motion action (think DREDD), the jumping back and forth in time, the poking fun at the movie studio and other movies constantly just got old fast. I am in no danger of going to see this twice.

This was my exact impression from the trailer.

I saw 'Zoolander' tonight. I can't really remember the first one.
It was so silly and laugh out loud funny. Not oscar caliber, but just so funny.
And lots of famous people, including lots of fashion people.
I did not recognize Kristen Wig.
The audience was laughing a lot and applauded at the end.
There is a line from Star Wars that was just too funny and all the references to the Police.

Little Accidents was pretty good, although one piece of the story seemed to be strangely neglected. Makes me wonder if they had to edit the movie down to a certain running time and one important aspect of the movie was dropped in favour of the larger story. Elizabeth Banks, Boyd Holbrook and Josh Lucas are unsurprisingly great as the adult leads, but it's possible that teenage actor Jacob Lofland stole the movie from the three of them. The movie does have a fairly slow pace, so if you're not into a quieter, stylish drama, this one might not work for you. Myself, I'd prefer to see the extended version where we see more
concern and anguish from the parents of their missing child - who they have no idea of whether he might be alive somewhere, or dead...who knows where... :(

Ok, I went to Hail, Caesar! yesterday, despite the warnings here. And given that I went in with very low expectations ... I thought it wasn't that bad.

Definitely disorganized and unfocussed, definitely not the Coen bros' best effort. And most definitely not enough Ralph Fiennes. But it had enough laughs and cleverness to make us not regret that we'd used our free passes for it, especially since there was nothing, nothing else that even remotely interested us.

It always helps to have low expectations, and free passes.

So...I kinda liked The Boy Next Door. Very cheesy of course, but silly fun. On the DVD extras, they talked about the erotic thrillers from the 80's and 90's and used those as inspiration. It would be so easy to pick this movie apart in so many ways, but why ruin your fun and not just sit back and enjoy the ride? Plus Ryan Guzman is lovely to look at (as if Jennifer Lopez). Kristin Chenoweth makes the most of her role and John Corbett is...there... (But I've always found Corbett to be a bit of a Ken doll, minus the personality.) :p

There is no way that Fifty Shades of Grey (and particularly Dakota Johnston) should be getting Razzies, but of course it would.

I like that there are two female directors in the worst Director Category. Yay for breaking the glass ceiling!

I've got this one recently from the library, forget they had it and was surprised so many copies had an "On Shelf" status. Anyway, I got a copy and will watch it at some point. Disappointing that female directors get some attention...and it's negative attention. :(

...and so many good recommendations from @Nell411 :

...Rosalind Russell in The Women and His Girl Friday. I know the obvious performance would be Auntie Mame but I've decided to go for the beginning of her career instead.

I looked into all three of us only to end up with seeing all three on my To See lists. Only His Girl Friday available at our local library system, but the other two I might get the next time I'm housesitting. :D

The second is Angela Lansbury in The Court Jester and The Manchurian Candidate.

Added The Court Jester to my list. I'm pretty sure I saw The Manchurian Candidate at some point. Then saw the Meryl/Denzel remake. Not feeling drawn back to this one for some reason. Maybe just because there's too many movies that I haven't seen one time, so why see this one a second time? Maybe The Court Jester will draw me in enough that I'll be curious to see Lansbury in such a different role.

There are loads of other performances I could mention, Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn in The Lion In Winter, John Wayne in The Searchers, Maureen O'Hara in The Quiet Man. But this post took me over an hour to type because I kept getting sidetracked*. So I'm going to stop at this.

I found The Lion In Winter difficult to get into at first, but when I returned to it, I liked it much more than when I first started on it. Didn't think O'Toole's and Hepburn's performances were dramatically better than pretty much all their other work, though! The Searchers I think I've seen, but I'm not sure, so I put it on hold. And The Quiet Man has been added to my list as well.

Will we be getting a part two of your favourite performances of all time? I think everything you've ever posted about has been added to my To See list. Who knows when I'll get around to a best performances list, I still have about 200 movies to think about as I'm making my Best Movies Of All Time list. I've got 63 on my final list so far. So far, this one is #6: North Sea Texas (2011, Belgium)

Full disclosure, I went to see Deadpool as someone who's already a pretty big fan of the him in the comics.

That being said, I loved it! It's absolutely the movie that I think most of us fans wanted. Fourth wall breaking, hyper violent, the whole shebang. I do feel a little bit like they could have cut the cursing in half and it would've still been just as good, but I'm still pretty happy with my experience :D.

Sorry for the double post. I wanted to reply to Peter without clogging the post up with my Deadpool fangirling.

The Court Jester is so great, I think I mentioned it's quotability in my original post. But it is so quotable. My brother and I used to walk around the house saying lines from it after we first saw it. The Manchurian Candidate is a dark movie and it kind of sticks with you. I've still only seen it twice. I read a rumour that a Criterion version could be coming out. If that's true I'll probably watch it again sooner rather than later. I just have a lot of strong feelings about Angela Lansbury's career because so many people really only know her for Jessica Fletcher or Mrs Pots. I wish it was easier to find her Broadway stuff online but a lot of it is from the 60's and 70's. Her first four Tony's were won in those years. She won an Olivier Award last spring when at age 89 for Blithe Spirit. Here's a great article I found about her career and where's she's at now career-wise.

Possibly. I'll have to think about who else I could choose and what reasons. I will admit, I struggle summarizing stories. Book reports were hell for me in school.

I think part of my fondness for Peter O'Toole in The Lion in Winter is that it was the first movie of his I saw. I also found something really magnetic about his and Katharine Hepburn's respective performances in the movie. A little scenery chewing but I don't care.

I don't know if I could commit to making a top 200 movies list. I've seen so many movies and there is so many more I want to see. I'd be constantly revising it. When you consider to this day I still can't decide what my favourite movie is. I have a rotation of 4 to 6 going at the moment.

Ah yes - The Lion in Winter - wonderful.

Just saw Room and thought it was really quite good. Although one particular part of the plotting was ill-conceived IMO.

I'd add a spoiler, but after all these years on FSU, still don't know how to do that.

In my movie preview film club we saw 'Remember' with Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau. One of the few times a movie is shown that has already been released. But I had not seen it.
Set now with Plummer playing a Holocaust survivor with dementia that goes to find the guard that killed his family.
Plummer was amazing. Story had some interesting twists. Very suspenseful.
Then we had the discussion in the film club afterwards. I still enjoyed the movie, but feel manipulated.

Keep in mind, I'm always behind on movies, as they just don't often generate my interest. So....since I have movie channels with my cable package, and since I really like Colin Firth, I tried the "Kingsmen" today...and bailed after about an hour. Really??? I didn't find any of the characters at all likable, including him, and the violence and F-bombs (and I'm a rampant F-bomber) were just over the top.

So I switched over to catching most of "The clouds of sils maria" (I missed the first 15 minutes or so)....and just, wow. Beautiful and complex movie. As "Twilight" never held any interest for me, I had actually never seen Kristen Stewart in anything. She is really quite good, and of course, Juliette Binoche is sublime! So it turned into a good movie watching night after all!

I saw it yesterday, and rather liked it. Might see it again to catch more references, but I laughed a lot. Here is a fun read about the original sources for the stories:
