Her and her son's television show, Not My Mama's Meals, is focused on exactly that. Is she completely laying off the suck-food 24/7? Probably not, but I've yet to see any Type Two diabetic who completely has. Of course, it's interesting that there's little outrage directed toward Guy Fieri's proceeding show, celebrating trashy and tasty diner food. Fat dudes do tend to get a pass.

Guy Fieri doesn't also promote a drug for diabetes.

I actually enjoy that show - I wouldn't eat a lot of it, but he features a lot of people doing really interesting things that are healthier, promote different cultures and cuisines, support local agriculture and celebrate small business. I'm not saying that excuses the mega cheeseburgers or his own weight, but it's why I watch the show.

So it's all fun and games until someone gets diabetes? Okay.

Nice try - you know that's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying it's my opinion that Paula is a hypocrite because she says one thing and does another.

What does she say, and what does she do instead?

It's a phrase - and we've already been through this in exhaustive detail in this thread and others.

My A1C is 7.4. Or it was the last time I had my annual diabetic check-up; I need to schedule my next appointment soon.

But I'm not sure why you criticized that most of the people here wouldn't know theirs anyway. It's not like everyone in this thread is diabetic. And Ms. Deen and I have different types of diabetes.

It wouldn't hurt for some of them, particularly those in current ownership of Deen's former body type, to get their own A1Cs checked before pointing their Whopper-soaked fingers at her.

Probably not but why do you assume those that are criticizing her are those of her former size?

...But you have no way of knowing whom that would apply to, or if it even does.

Mine is 6.3, which is a little high for my liking. Can I point my Whopper-soaked fingers at her? Btw, I haven't eaten a Whopper in years. And I think she is an irresponsible hypocrite. Or is it just the type 2's can point fingers?

Hey y'all, there's hope for you. Deen allegedly has hers down to 5.2.

I'd gladly fake a bad case of soft-peter if Viagra gave me $6 mil to talk about it.

Badams, if I remember correctly, is a type-1 diabetic, while Deen is not. They're very different diseases.

Ah, then perhaps Bad can weigh in on the icon of healthy Type 1 management, Bret Michaels.

When I was down to 5.3, my blood sugars were running in the low 40's regularly...so, no thanks.

    Exactly.

You should meet my dad. He's 80 and diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic three years ago. Even though he didn't eat Paula Deen fried/buttery type food beforehand, he was into the cakes, pies and cookies. He's cut out sweets of all kinds, cut down on breads and starches, and upped his exercise -- he used to walk 2-3 km per day, now he walks 10 km per day rain or shine or snow. His A1C at diagnosis was 19.something but it's ranged from 4.9 to 5.1 over the last 3 years (and he insists that his doctor give him copies of the lab reports to prove it!).

Yeah, 5.3 is pretty low for a type-1. My lowest ever was 6 and I had switched over to a whole foods diet and really struggled with low blood sugar for a while there.

And, as a type-1 diabetic, I have no real issue with Bret Michaels. I think he's kind of ridiculous in a lot of ways but I haven't noticed anything about his management that irritated me. He's had a lot of awful health issues but none of them, from what I could see, related to poor diabetes management - just really, really bad luck.

    Is Guy Fieri a diabetic?

That was a reality show. We all know how real reality shows are.

It's getting pretty real for Big Brother contestants - the first person hasn't even been voted off yet, and one has lost a modelling contract and another has lost her job due to their racist remarks on the live feeds. And they're oblivious to what's going on outside the game.

My roommate in college did but I tried to avoid it when I could  What did he do on the show that was so awful related to his diabetes-management?

So it was all fake when we saw Bret sucking down a fifth of Jack every night before shoving his tongue down the throats of two-dozen porn stars adorned with cold sores, including one who humps pizzas? Good. I was afraid there about his compromised immune system and whatnot.

I'm not sure. I wasn't there, and I obviously wasn't as much a fan of the show as you were... But for all we know, that wasn't jack in the bottle. And the porn stars might have all been tested beforehand. But since when does making out with skanky women compromise ones diabetes? The jack I can give you...if it was, in fact, jack. I'm just REALLY skeptical when it comes to the realness of reality TV.
