Kanako Murakami participates to the international multi-sport event for the first time. Will she create a sensation?
    http://www.jiji.com/news/kiji_photos/20110126at38b.jpg

Kanako Murakami (16, Chukyo University Chukyo High School) who participated to Senior for the first time in this season and created a great sensation challenges to international multi-sport event for the first time.
She looks forward to the event, saying, "I'm glad to be able to see players of another sports and I wish I could do the good performance".
Winning the championship in the junior Worlds in last March, she attracted attention as the heroine of next generation. In this season, she won the third place in NHK trophy of her first event of GP series and won the championship for the first time in Skate America in her second event.
In the GP Final, winning the third place of the best of the Japan team, she stood on the podium admirably. With the sparkling smiling face, the plentiful expression ability and the skating ability which is full of a sense of speed, she who is in the prime of growing makes us feel a remarkable talent.

While saying, "In this season, the more I repeated participation in the event, the more I could do the good acting. Going on with this rate, I would like to aim at the higher", Murakami herself, too, seems to be feeling a sense of fulfillment.
Of course, she has many problems still. One of those is to improve the precision of the jump. As for the Axel, she needs the conquest of the consciousness which is bad at it. In the GP series, there were the some mistakes such as the wrong edge and the under-rotation.
Saying, "You must get the ability which can win still even if you make a mistake while the other player does perfect acting", Machiko Yamada coach who grew Midori Ito and Mao Asada demands an effort of the high dimension to her.
Murakami has a hidden potential that she may respond to such a demand.

In January 31st, Kanako Murakami (Chukyo University Chukyo High School) left for Asian Winter Games (at Kazakhstan)
As for the international multi-sports event which she participates to for the first time, it is against the coldness of the spot which becomes even "20 degrees below freezing point", that she is taking precautions most.
She said, “According to the mail of my friend who has gone earlier, it is so cold that even the nose hair seems to freeze”. “Is it how I cope with the situation?” "I will raise a neck warmer up till this height approximately", while making a gesture of covering her nose with both hands.
At Narita Air Port, the Japan Representative of soccer returned home from Asian Trophy at the evening after she left for Asian Winter Games, but she, too, may be going to take off to the Worlds from the top of Asia.

The heroine candidates Murakami, and Imai who carry the next epoch on their shoulder are about to go to the front at the Asian Winter Games
    February 2nd, 2011 JST

In the 7th Asian Winter Games, Kanako Murakami (16, Chukyo University Chukyo High School) and Haruka Imai (17, NihonBashi Jyogakkan High School) who are high school students together face to their first international multi-sports event. As for Ladies, the short program (SP) is held in February 4th and the free skating (FS) is held in February 5th.
The heroine candidates who carry the figure skating of Japan of next epoch on their shoulder aim at the podium.
Both participated to the grand Prix Series of Senior from this season. Murakami won the championship in Skate America and won the third place in GP Final. Imai also competed well so that she became the 5th place in Skate Canada and became the 6th place in Tropee Eric Bompard.
In this event, both of them entered to Astana in February 1st and lost no time in doing the official practice. Murakami checked 3T-3T combination jump etc and Imai, too, checked the feel of the jump and the step.
Murakami had many tumbles, but her look were bright while saying, "My leg has lost the touch (by the long trip), but I have no problem as for tomorrow".
She is often called the successor of Mao Asada, too, but she gazes at herself modestly, while saying, "I have no real ability to speak of, but I would like to make the competition so as to be able to use as the step for the next".
Imai also who won the championship in the national high school skate championship of Japan in January said, "I was surprised because I had failed the loop jump to be good at in the competition. Correcting it, I would like to do good acting this time". To strengthen the graceful expressive power of her good point, she said that she had had the teacher of the classical ballet teach.
Both of them who often practice together and are close friends, continue growth, while stimulating each other.

    I made a mistake slightly.
Cathy Reed (Kinoshita Komuten Club) said, “We tensed. Our condition was good but I made a mistake slightly. It became a bad start but I would like to improve gradually”.

I could perform without the big mistake.
Tatsuki Machida (Kansai University) said, “It was good because I could perform without a big mistake. After Japan Nationals, I have practiced like mad. As for the free skating tomorrow, I would like to skate thoroughly about not only the quad jump but also something except it”.

    I could not appeal.
Takahito Mura (Chukyo University) said, “I could not do the performance so as to appeal because I was nervous about a failure. That is a problem to be solved to the Free skating. Because the jump became unstable before the competition, it affected to my mental aspect”.

In the 5th day of Asian Winter Games (at Astana in February 3rd), Reed team of Ice Dance got the personal best score in this season but started with second place because they could not reach Chinese team. Cathy who had touched the ice with the hand on the way of the step said constructively, "The result was so-so. We would like to do our best in the free skating, too".
The sibling who was born in US had already visited Russia by the practice etc but visited Kazakhstan for the first time. As for the impression of Astana, Cathy said, "The atmosphere resembles to Moscow. This place is cold but the soup is delicious". (Kyodo Com)

Haruka Imai, too, fell the triple combination jump at the beginning, but followed the next as 54.02 points.

Murakami said, “I got tense because waiting for long time. (Because she failed in the triple-triple combination jump ). Because I think that the contents are more valuable than the order, the regrettable feelings are bigger for me. In free skating, I want to make efforts so as to never fail”.

Thanks for the translations, Akira Andrea.

In this context, does "fail" mean she fell, or could it mean that she just doubled the second triple in the combination?

Thanks for having an interest to the article.
As for the triple-triple combination jump of the beginning, because Murakami upset the timing a little in the first jump, her second jump became single rotation.
However, as for the other jumps such as the triple jump and the double Axel, she nailed those cleanly, I heard.
The more the program goes toward the second half, the more she have excited an audience, I heard.

Thank you, Akira. The Reeds may never be great skaters, but they are a hoot to watch. It's nice they can get some more international competitions.

Kanako Murakami who clenches and holds up her fists with confidence of triumph as soon as she ended her performance with gallant look.

In the Ladies of figure skating, Kanako Murakami (16, Chukyo University Chukyo High School) won the Gold medal. Skating without a great mistake, such as nailing the two consecutive triple jumps combination in the free skating, she won an overwhelming victory with 177.04 points while keeping the first place from SP. Standing on the top of Asia in her first international multi-sports event, she gained momentum in order to participate to the Worlds of this March. Haruka Imai (Nihonbashi Jyogakkan High School), too, won the second place with 167.00 points in total. In the Ladies event of figure skating, Japan won the third consecutive victory on the heels of Shizuka Arakawa and Yukari Nakano.

She clenched and held up her fists unconsciously with confidence of triumph as soon as she ended her performance with gallant look. At the same time, the smiling face of her trademark burst. In the international multi-sports event which she participated for the first time, Murakami won the 1st place not only in SP but also in FS. And her total score approached her personal best score to 1.55 points. She said, “I am glad very much. On the whole, my performance was good really today”. The star which Japan expects to stood on the top of Asia. The star which Japan looks forward to stood on the top of Asia.

Nailing the two consecutive triple jumps combination finely, she rode on the stream. She did not do a remarkable failure, except that she touched slightly the ice in the double Axel. She performed to the adult-like graceful music excellently, using her 158 centimeter body most effectively.

As for this season when she made debut to the senior, she participated also to the small competition like an Aichi Figure Skating Competition to build up her experience. This event is her 8th competition in this season, but the number of times of participation is much more than that of any other top players. The training of a day sometimes lasts even 6 hours, so that she says "The training is harder than the competition even if there is not a competition". The attention to her around her is rising rapidly but she continues an effort modestly, while saying, "I am glad, but I don't have such a real power yet".

The hope who continues growth, while repeating both the training and the real competition, seems to be scheduled to participate to 2 competitions even before the Worlds (at Tokyo) of March which becomes the compilation of the season for her. The 1st-year high school student of 16 years old who let out a result like the pre-expectation swore the more leap with the smiling look, saying, "There was not the pressure at all, I would like to do the perfect performance in SP also and in FS also in next time".

Reed Sibling won the Silver in Ice Dance.
    February 6th, 2011 JST

As soon as their performance finished, the younger brother Chris clenched his fists in triumph and the elder sister Cathy clenched her fists after an instant from him, too. They said, "We could skate well" with one voice.

As for the step of the free dance, they changed the composition bigly in January because it had been so difficult that it could say "crazy", therefore it got somewhat easier. The training time for this event had been short, but it was the result which they can be completely satisfied that their step is number one as for. Chris said, “I does not satisfied

Aiming at the Worlds, they have the chance to train moreover. Chris said, “I am not satisfied yet. We are going to train much from now on”. Cathy who had touched the ice with the hand in the short dance, said, “I take care to strengthen my mental aspect”. They seem to have found the problem which should be solved from now on respectively.

    The Results of Ice Dance
    1 Xintong Hung/Xun Zheng (CHN) 129.75 points (SD=1st place with 53.11, FD=3rd place with 76.64)
    2 Cathy Reed/Chris Reed (JPN) 128.28 points (SD=2nd place with 50.97, FD=1st place with 77.31)
    3 Xiaoyang Yu/Chen Wang (CHN) 127.50 (SD=3rd place with 50.70, FD=2nd Place with 76.80)

In the exhibition which was held in Astana of Kazakhstan in February 6th, who attracted a great deal of attention from the audience is Cathy Reed (23) and Chris Reed (21) of Japan Representative. They danced splendidly with gorgeous “Kimono” or “Japanese traditional formal wear”.

They are a sibling who came from Michigan of US, but their mother is Japanese. In the free dance of ice dance which was held in February 5th, they got the highest score, but they ended up in Silver because they were defeated by Chinese team regrettably. Cathy said
Cathy said, “Practicing more and getting confidence, we want to do our best again in the Worlds. This event became a good experience for us”.

However, in the exhibition, the kimono was popular with the audience and they attracted most audience's attention.
They drew an applause which surpasses that of Kanako Murakami and Haruka Imai from the audience.
