They've been awfully slow releasing the chapters. Like doling out candy to the kids.
I absolutely hate potions - I can't make them at all.
ETA - Okay, finally got it brewing for 51 minutes. If I fall asleep, does the potion spoil?
Be patient and let me know if you need tips.
BTW, I was wrong, all the ingredients needed for the Polyjuice are available by now. LMK if you want tips.
Making the darn Polyjuice now. Looks tricky. I've confused Fluxweed and some kind of grass already.
Thanks. I'm hoping I don't fall asleep too early so I can finish the potion after 51 minutes is up. For good measure, I went back to Hagrid's house and collected more dried nettles. Seems I need a lot of those. *sigh*
Whaa?? The swelling solution told me I'd failed as soon as I turned on the heat on part II, didn't even get to heat it up to the correct range
Yes, I messed up that potion so many times and had to go back to Hagrid's house a lot.
In part 2, use the yellow burner to turn the heat on, not the red one. The red one is harder to control and likely the temp got too high very quickly. And be ready to regulate the temp very closely, every few seconds within that narrow range.
Anybody that goes after this Slytherin's hair will be turned into whatever's left of my exploded cauldron.
It wasn't yours, Matry. It was a boy's.
Be careful with the Lacewings bottle, a slippery sucker. I just dumped an overdose of this into the cauldron and messed up my Polyjuice. Take 2.
I'm still waiting for when we have to use that leaping toadstool
Swelling Solution, Take 2...
Ugh, it happened to me again, and this time I only used the yellow knob. As soon as I clicked on it, it told me that I'd failed to keep the temperature within range - hadn't even started heating up yet!
What do I do
ETA: so as a symptom of my obsession, I googled to see if anyone else was having this issue... and there are some others, so I guess it's not just me. But ugh, so annoying!!
ETA: It did the exact same thing in Firefox and Chrome. I think I'm cooked (no pun intended) for now...
Hmm. Here's a tutorial for the Swelling Solution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxzQaD99Jg0
Thanks, I saw that earlier. I don't know, at this point I'm convinced that it's just glitchy. (The first comment on the youtube video describes my exact problem.) And I've succeeded in making all the other potions before multiple times, so I'm pretty sure I'm heating it correctly...
Well, I guess I should be getting back to studying instead of making (virtual) potions all day anyway
I am having trouble with the 1st part of the Polyjuice. There are two, of course which are in essence two separate potions.
After the 1 hour wait, the time runs out very quickly and you have to heat the darn thing for 30 seconds. I don't know how I can make up time. A glitch as well?
Oh God, me too.
But I can't find the proper chapter to collect more of that, where is it?
I've brewed part 1 of the Polyjuice. Now I am brewing the 16+ hour long part 2. How much do I want to get this right?
The nettles? Try Book 1, Chapter 8, Scene 3. (Been doing this all day. )
yes, unlimited supply hanging on Hagrid's hut.
PML, checking my blog stats and found that someone got to my blog today by searching "pottermore i blew up my cauldron".
That is funny! I have blown up a cauldron or two on occasion...
NB: if you run out of an ingredient, you can either
(a) buy it in Diagon Alley
(b) find it in one of the chapters
If you need help finding stuff in the book, Googling it usually yields results or you can ask here. To paraphrase Dumbledore:
I noticed going through Book 1 again that there are some new moments of info to unlock. I've also picked up 3 more galleons so far that weren't there before. Earned 3 badges going back through Book 1.
Done it. Potion finished. Thx again for your help
A youtube tutorial on the polyjuice potion. An interesting and a safe way to deal with that tricky lacewing bottle.
Polyjuice Part 1 and 2 completed! Part 2 does take forever but there is a large grace period after the potion is done so don't sweat getting to the cauldron right on the dot.
And part 2(b) after the 18 hours is very easy--no heating involved.
omg Thanks, IceAlisa!!!
ETA: Wait, what?? The rest of CoS isn't up yet??
ETA: Just dumped a huge pile of lacewings into my mortar. UGH.
How do you get the Slytherin hair for the polyjuice potion??
Centerstage, here's how:
I forget the chapter, but it's the one where the trio are looking at the wall with the writing from Voldemort, and there's a crowd of students on the left side of the screen. You get the hair by hovering over the tall boy standing next to Malfoy. It's really dark, so it's easy to miss
To control the darn bottle, lean on the mortar and carefully tip over into the mortar. Leaning it on the side of the mortar helps to control spilling. In the youtube video above, the person actually dumped the wings on the counter and then transferred them from there.
Thank you, Bostonfan!
Remaining chapters released. A big snooze the first time through. I'll go through them again. Some moments seem to have nothing to them. I did collect a lot of galleons. Something expensive must be coming up in future chapters, because there had to be at least 20 galleons collected in these final chapters.
I'm glad the whole chapter is up...now I can get started! I didn't want to start and have to stop so I decided to wait.
FSU--Pottermore updated 11/1/2012
Eating Mini Ice's Halloween candy and going through the rest of CoS. You are right, Bostonfan, nothing epic so far.
So I've gone through a few times. Is there a list of goodies we are supposed to find in the final chapters? I'd like to crosscheck.
Finally- it took me at least 7 tries (i stopped counting!) to brew the Swelling Potion. Now I have to Brew the Polyjuice? I suck at potions. Grrr....
Happy Christmas from Pottermore! The first 7 chapters of PoA are up and running.
