A slight improvement by Polina Shelepen on her score at the Volvo Cup (157.61 compared with 153.40 - an increase of 4.21). This moves her up to third from fourth in terms of the leading points scorers for the season

I assume her components are going up. I will sound like a broken record, but this program of hers is pathetic, there are no transitions, no interpretation, no ANYTHING except jumps. I wish she'd just put on a recording of generic pretty music where her unrelated arms might go with the music. She'd probably be more with the music then. This is just execrable. You don't pick a piece with so much character and then forget about and just do jumps and silly arm waves. She makes Sasha Cohen look like a genius musician, seriously. At least with Cohen's program you could tell she understood the music. Polina could have been skating to Swan Lake with that program. Maybe that's next year's program?

I can't believe Polina Shelepen was mentioned in the same sentence as Sasha Cohen...

I am referring to Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto which was her LP. Cohen did this in 2000 with much more musicality and awareness to the music. There are only a few music pieces, in hindsight violin, that require something more than generic arm waves and facial expressions to interpret the music. God, what did Michelle Kwan do in 1995? Charles St. Saens? Then I saw Derrick Delmore actually be the music. A totally different experience.

It's amazing to me to think that Nishino stood on the JGPF podium in 2007 with Flatt and Nagasu and she's still on the JGP circuit (in her 5th season!). Why doesn't Japan send her to Sr. B's instead?

Well she's still only 17, and there are so many talented senior ladies in Japan. She's still age eligible for juniors so the JSF might as well send her. Her UR problems are frustrating because she's a lovely skater otherwise.

Congrats to Hae-Jin Kim for her clean FS and the bronze medal. :cheer:
It is relieving to see her back to consistent form again after disappointments at her 1st JGP outting.
