Reprising Moonlight Sonata may not be a bad idea. it is her best long program after all.

I wish her well - but really, making it to Nationals will be in itself an achievement.

I really liked Fumie's Moonlight. That and Carmen were her best LP's IMO. I just cannot believe it's eleven years since she did it :scream:

Thanks for sharing that interview, reut! I love the choice of Puss in Boots for the SP. It would be such a nice full-circle moment if she could at least make it to Nationals with the Moonlight Sonata LP. I like that she's with Lori Nichol and Noriko Sato again. (Please someone attend Regionals and record the programs!)

The posture is fine but the angles are not very flattering to Mao who seems bulky & muscular here. Where is our reed-slender gazelle of years past? I hope that it is just the angle (or costume length? color?) to blame for the heaviness.

I can't believe anyone would accuse Mao Asada of looking heavy! To me it is a cause for celebration when she does not look vanishingly skinny. She has been struggling with underweight the past few years. I think she looks wonderful in these two photos. And I am not one of those who defends plump skaters just to be considerate or PC.

Re-posting from the COS Summer Skate Thornhill thread in Kiss and Cry:

Nobunari Oda's winning FS (171.41): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq6G4VhwpoQ
FS jumps: 4T3T, 3T, 3A2T, 3A, 3Lz2T2Lo, 3F, 3Lo, 3S. His music was Rossini's William Tell overture, choreographed by Lori Nichol.
Oda's SP (78.24) to The Cotton Club soundtrack, choreographed by David Wilson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe4ElxWRi_4

Kento Nakamura's 143.54 2nd place FS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKPGrsRhOVk
Nakamura's jumps: 3A2T, 3T, 3Lo, 3Lz2T2T, 3F, 3A, 3?2T, 3Lz fell out. He's always been my favorite "least known" Japanese male skater. Thanks to skateboy for confirming his music as Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, in E-flat Major ("Emperor"). Brian Orser was with him at this competition - did David Wilson choreograph Nakamura's FS?

Kozuka, Dai, Hanyu, Oda.
Japan must have 4 spots for Sochi. Too much talents.

Dai and Hanyu are almost sure bets...I think
it's between Oda and Kozuka, and it's gonna be really heartbreaking...both are really underachievers for their respective talents
And then there's Mura and Machida, who have a lot of chances for the Olympic team too, especially Mura

Agreed. The third spot might be among Kozuka, Oda, Mura and Machida. It's going to be a massacre.:wuzrobbed

BTW it would be a tough battle in the ladies field, too. There are four strong contenders so far. Mao, Akiko, Kanako, and Satoko. If Miki succeed in quarifying for Nats, the number will be five. My bet is Mao and Kanako will get the two spots. And the third spot will be among Akiko, Satoko, and Miki. I think it'll be between Akiko and Satoko. And that reminds me of 2009 Nats. Akiko got the spot and Yukari retired. :wuzrobbed Sorry Satoko but I want to see Akiko in Sochi. Satoko would be one of the Japanese strongest contenders after Sochi.

In reference:
Machida won Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy 2013 August 8-11 with rather sloppy short and solid long (jump contents were 4T,4T3T,3A,3A2T,3Lo,3Lz,3F,3S2T2T) and total score was 226.21. One of his fans tweeted he didn't want his short to be public including the music choice, because he was not satisfied with his own performance. And here is the video of his FS.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lx6lytVwNQ

Satoko also won Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy in the senior ladies field over Kexin ZHANG. Her FS7s jump contents were 3Lz3T,3F,3Lo,2A,2A3T,3Lz<2T2T,3S and she earned plus GOEs for almost all　contents except for 3Lz<2T2T. Kozuka has struggled with boot problems and foot injuries for the last few years, and he's competed with more than average pain. He's achieved as much as he can given those limitations.

Wow, who is she? I didn't know that skater until I read your post.
She certainly looked in great shape. Loved her first spin.

Satoko's skating is really quite lovely--I find her very expressive. I also love how she spins in both directions; don't see too much of that anymore.

Oh, you didn't? She is the bronze medalist in Japan Nats over Akiko last season.
At the age of 14, she was still so small and cute.lol :) http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0gk4bNe9oQ4Rh/x610.jpg

Satoko skated her FS "Poeta" in The Ice 2013 and you can see her more closely in this video. Shame it's a very short clip, though.

so will we finally see somehting like a 3A-3A sequence in competition? not to speak of 4t-3a. he showed some stuff like this last season in shows, but not in competition.

would be great to see.

Doubtful, unless the rules change. Right now the second jump would only be worth 80% of its total value IIRC, so it's more convenient for him to keep his current layout in the free and do 3A and 3A-3T.
As of now, he has landed 3A-3A, 4T-3A, 4S-3A, 4T-3A-3A and 4T-3A-3A-3A-3A-2A (meant to be a triple, but popped) sequences in shows. He can do three 3As in sequence as well, but only attempted in practice.

Not only the second jump but both jumps of a sequence count only 80% of the base jump value -> 10,3 (4T) + 8,5 (3A) x 0,8 = 15,04

That shows one more time how stupid IJS is in some regards. Would love to see more variation in jump combination/sequences.

However impressive jumping ability by Hanyu.
